When Hader is able to spot his fastball and spin his curve effectively at the same time, given his arm slot, he's just about as good a pitching prospect as there is in the game. Problem is, fastball command and curve quality rarely coalesce. If Hader could somehow find a consistent curve and improve his fastball and change-up command, and be able to execute all three pitches on a regular basis, I think his ceiling is higher than Houser's. I do agree Houser's floor is probably higher, though he has command and delivery issues of his own that need to be ironed out.

Good news is, Hader will just be 22 next year and Houser 23. So they still both definitely have time to work on things.

Agree. Houser reminds me of that Nelson, Peralta type power arm. Big strong body, durable, and could be an anchor in the top part of the rotation (more 2-3). Not a guy who wows but yet is very good.

Hader on the other hand has that wow factor. He is a lefty with a goofy arm slot, throws upper 90's, at 21 in AA K'd over 10 batter per 9 while allowing hitters to hit less than .200 vs him. His growth in each season from nothing special 17th round pick to California League pitcher of the year at 20, to what he is now.....he is trending up at an incredible rate. I don't understand how he is not a top 5 player in this system almost universally. I believe we may see him in a couple more top 100s this next season. He just needs to improve consistency

Nice to see Magnifico's velocity still there. We haven't heard reports since he was drafted, so sitting 95-98 is good to see. Wonder why he doesn't get more K's. Deception? off-speed?

That's not exactly true, both TLB and I noted that while he threw 93-94 as a starter for the T-Rats his velocity quickly fell off.

edit. And as been noted his entire career he was a 1 pitch guy, just a FB, he doesn't have a plus secondary offering of any kind, he's a middle reliever until he gets some kind of out pitch.
