BILOXI, MS - The Biloxi Shuckers withstood a power surge by the Mississippi Braves on Monday night, taking game four of the five-game series by a score of 5-4 in front of a crowd of 1,981 at MGM Park to force a fourth-consecutive rubber match. Tyrone Taylor and Orlando Arcia paced the offencse with two hits apiece as the Brewers' prospects have combined for 66 multi-hit games this season. The win improves Biloxi's record to 10-7 against the Braves this season and is the team's 15th victory at MGM Park (15-12).

Biloxi waited until the third inning to pick up its first hit of the game, but made it count as they struck for two runs in the inning. Tyrone Taylor (2x4, 2 R, SB) singled to start the frame and moved to second with his ninth stolen base of the season, with Adam Weisenburger (1x2, R) at the plate. Weisenburger singled to put runners on the corners for Tyler Wagner, who put down a sacrifice bunt in front of the mound. The throw to first was in time to get Wagner for the first out of the inning, but the throw home by Kevin Ahrens sailed high of Matt Kennelly and out of play, allowing both base runners to score. The RBI was Wagner's fifth of the season.

Mississippi worked deep counts against Wagner all night, striking out four times and drawing three walks before the fifth inning. In the fifth, the Braves put two runners on with one out after back-to-back singles by the eighth and ninth batters in the lineup, Matt Lipka and opposing pitcher John Gant. Shuckers' pitching coach Chris Hook came out for a meeting with his starter before Sean Godfrey sent the first pitch from Wagner onto Caillavet for a three-run homerun, putting Biloxi down a run.

Wagner failed to make it past the fifth inning for the first time this season as a member of the Biloxi Shuckers, and walked a season-high four batters, while also striking out four on 95 pitches in just 4.2 innings.

The Shuckers tied the game in the sixth with a two-out rally. Brett Phillips (1x4, R, 2B) doubled to start the inning and sat there for two batters before Brandon Macias (1x3, BB) drew a walk to put two on for Victor Roache (1x4, RBI), who ripped a single into right to bring in Phillips.

The Braves used another long ball in the seventh to regain the lead over the Shuckers. Jed Bradley (2.0 IP, R, H) started the inning by retiring Emerson Landoni and Godfrey, but a two-out shot onto the berm in right field by Levi Hyams put Mississippi back out in front, 4-3.

Not to be outdone, Biloxi used a two-out knock off the bat of Orlando Arcia (2x4, RBI) to score two runs and put the Shuckers back out in front. Taylor started things off with a single and moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt by Weisenburger. Nick Ramirez drew a walk to put two on for Phillips, who struck out swinging. With two outs, Arcia deposited a single into left field, bringing Taylor home from second. The throw home by Godfrey went out of play, allowing Ramirez to score the second run on the play and put Biloxi back in front, 5-4.

Damien Magnifico (4-1) worked out of jam in the eighth after having runners on the corners and two outs, but induced a ground out to third by Godfrey to end the Braves' threat.

Yhonathan Barrios (SV, 3) came out of the bullpen to close the game in the ninth and made quick work of the Braves, setting them down in order to secure his third save as a Shucker.

Biloxi will try to take its third rubber match in its last four attempts on Tuesday night at MGM Park. LHP Hobbs Johnson (7-5, 3.31) will take the mound for the Shuckers, while the Braves will send out RHP Lucas Sims (0-2, 7.41). Tuesday will be Wiggins Community Night at MGM Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:25 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. Fans can also listen to the game using the TuneIn Radio app or by going to www.biloxishuckers.com.

Yankees Defeat Manatees in Series Opener, 4-2

Brevard County Drops Fourth Straight Game

By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees

08/10/2015 10:21 PM ET

Tampa, FL - The Tampa Yankees (21-23, 55-59 overall) smacked 11 hits in a 4-2 victory over the Brevard County Manatees (18-24, 47-64 overall) on Monday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

The Manatees immediately took the lead in the top of the first inning. Omar Garcia started the game with a sharply hit double down the left field line. Chris McFarland then singled up the middle to plate Garcia and open the scoring.

Tampa took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning against Brevard County starter Jorge Ortega. With one on and one out, Ericson Leonora hit a two-run home run to left field. Leonora's 11th homer of the year gave Tampa a 2-1 lead.

Brevard County tied the game in the fifth. With one out, Angel Ortega reached on a fielding error by third baseman Miguel Andujar. Garcia then walked. Two batters later, Clint Coulter singled into center field and plated Ortega. It was Coulter's 50th RBI of the season.

The Yankees scored the deciding runs in the bottom of the sixth. Mike Ford tripled with one out and scored on an Andujar ground-rule double. Later in the inning, Michael O'Neill singled on a soft liner to right field and plated Andujar.

Ortega (8-8, 2.62 ERA) took the loss. He surrendered four runs on eight hits. He walked one and struck out four. Trevor Seidenberger threw two scoreless innings in relief.

Jordan Montgomery (4-4, 3.23 ERA) tossed six innings to earn the win. He gave up two runs - one earned - on six hits. Giovanny Gallegos recorded the final four outs to earn his third save of the season.

The Manatees and Yankees will continue the series at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow night. RHP Johnny Hellweg (1-3, 7.20 ERA) will toe the rubber for Brevard County. Tampa will send RHP Vicente Campos (1-5, 6.35 ERA) to the bump.

Final: AZL Reds 6, AZL Brewers 5

Brutal loss, A-Crew led 5-1 heading to the bottom of the 8th...

Maryvale Box Score

Too many walk-off losses in the system lately.

The Reds committed six errors -- three of their pitchers allowed runs, but not a single one was earned.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old 38th round RHP Scott Grist allowed three 8th inning runs, and LHP Trevor Lubking allowed two in his 9th inning save situation, watching as a two-out, two-run double to right field plated the go-ahead and winning (well, losing) runs.

The Brewers managed only three hits, with SS Gilbert Lara netting two of them. The Crew did work seven walks, with 1B Juan Ortiz and C Kevin Martinez working two free passes apiece.

Long story short, the Maryvale kids were handed gift and gift and found a way to get to the Returns Desk at the local department store.

Maryvale Game Log

RHP's Miguel Diaz and Caleb Smith combined to issue six of the eight free passes on the Brewer side of things.

Final: Ogden 6, Helena 2

Raptors take series opener

Helena Brewers

The Helena Brewers (3-8) dropped their series opener 6-2 to the Ogden Raptors (5-6) on Monday at Kindrick Field. It was Helena's fourth loss in five days.

Joshua Torres (2-2) got the start for Helena, pitching five quality innings before getting roughed up in the sixth.

He would toss 3 2/3 perfect innings, retiring the first 11 batters he saw. He would walk Gage Green with two outs in the fourth to end the streak and allow consecutive singles after that. Matt Jones hit an RBI single to center to open the scoring.

Torres finished with six runs allowed on four hits through 5 2/3 innings of work while striking out six. Torres had not struck out more than four before Monday.

Ogden opened a sizeable lead in the sixth when they scored five runs on three hits. Jake Henson led the way with a two-RBI triple, his first three-bagger of the year.

Lefty Brad Kuntz made his Pioneer League debut, throwing 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief for Helena.

Four Ogden pitchers combined to throw 8 2/3 innings of shutout baseball before the Brewers broke through for a run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Jonathan Oquendo led off the inning with a single and scored later with Jose Cuas on the two-RBI single of Milan Post. Cuas has come up with five hits in his last two games.

The Brewers have now lost six of their last seven home games and are 5-14 since the middle of July.

The two teams will face off in the second game of their three-game series Tuesday at Kindrick Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM (8:05 Central).

This David Denson exit seemed odd, no apparent reason --

Ogden Top of the 6th

Defensive Substitution: Jonathan Oquendo replaces right fielder David Denson, batting 4th, playing second base.

Defensive switch from second base to third base for Jose Cuas.

Defensive switch from third base to right field for Yerison Pena.

Consecutive errors by SS Jake Gatewood and RHP Joshua Torres meant that all the runs allowed in the five-run Raptors 6th inning were unearned.

Defensive Substitution: Jonathan Oquendo replaces right fielder David Denson, batting 4th, playing second base.

Some players add value with flexibility. I think Denson just needs to focus on 1B...unless this is a signal that he isn't cutting it at 1B (gulp!). But I've read elsewhere that his 1B defense took a big step forward this year...

With such a big hole at 1B in our system (and such a glut of OFers), I don't think Denson needs to work on flexibility...

Orlando Arcia played a big role again Monday night in a 5-4 win over the Mississippi Braves. Tim Isbell photo, Biloxi Sun-Herald

From the Sun-Herald game story --

(Tyler) Wagner dropped down a safety squeeze and we get two runs out of that,’’ Biloxi manager Carlos Subero said. “There’s the basehit by Arcia and we get two runs out of that. Victor Roache tied the game with a single to right. It was a good ballgame.

“The bullpen was able to hold up after Wagner came out. It was a great job by the bullpen and it put us in a position to win the series tomorrow.’’
