Reminder from Chris Mehring's Timber Rattlers game summary Saturday --

On Sunday, Wisconsin will send LHP Nathan Kirby (0-0, 0.00) to the mound for his first professional start. Great Lakes has named Josh Sborz (0-1, 6.00) as their starter. Kirby and Sborz were teammates on the University of Virginia that won the 2015 NCAA College World Series on June 24. The Milwaukee Brewers took Kirby with the 40th pick in the 2015 draft. The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Sborz with the 74th pick in the 2015 draft.

Jose Cuas 3-for-3 so far today with a triple and two home runs. He is an interesting prospect to watch, as the scouting report I read on him says he is a plus defender at 3B (they have him playing 2B today) with the potential to develop more power. A little old for Rookie ball, but he could develop into a real prospect I think.

MIDLAND, MI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had a 3-1 lead heading to the bottom of the ninth inning at Dow Diamond on Sunday afternoon and were looking to with their first road series of the second half. But, the Great Lakes Loons staged a three-run rally for a 4-3 walkoff victory over the Rattlers.

Great Lakes (56-55 overall, 18-25 second half) went in front with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Frederico Celli drew a walk. Willie Calhoun followed with a single and an error on the play allowed Celli to take third base. Nick Sell blooped a single to right and Celli scored. This marked the eleventh straight game Wisconsin's opponents scored first.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Nathan Kirby fell behind Justin Chigbogu, the Loons next batter, with three straight balls, but escaped the jam when Chigbogu swung at the 3-0 and grounded into a 4-6-3 double play. Kirby got the final out of the inning on a grounder to second.

The Timber Rattlers (38-74, 15-27) scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the third inning. Tucker Neuhaus started the inning with a double and Francisco Castillo followed with a walk. Loons starter Josh Sborz got the first out before getting Carlos Leal to send a grounder to second baseman Willie Calhoun. The throw to shortstop Nick Dean covering second for the force play on Castillo was dropped and Neuhaus scored the tying run before the ball could be corralled.

Alan Sharkey put the Rattlers in front with a two-out RBI single to knock in Castillo from second base.

Kirby, who was making his first professional start, left after three innings. He allowed one run on four hits and struck out two before turning the game over to Devin Williams for the bottom of the fourth.

Williams was given a little insurance by the Timber Rattlers offense in the top of the sixth. Sthervin Matos doubled to start the inning and stole third with one out. Mitch Meyer sent a grounder to first and the throw home to get Matos was late to put the Rattlers up 3-1.

Williams worked three scoreless innings and struck out five before handing off the game to Eric Hanhold, who pitched a scoreless seventh and a scoreless eighth.

The Loons kicked off their rally in the ninth with a leadoff single by Frederico Celli. Calhoun followed with a single, his third of the game, to left-center that put runners on the corners. Hanhold got Sell to ground sharply to third, but a bobble cost the Rattlers a potential double play and the only out that could be recorded was Calhoun at second as Celli scored to cut Wisconsin's lead to one run.

Chigbogu, who was hitless in his last nine at bats, lined a double to right on a 1-2 pitch from Hanhold to move the tying run to third, put himself on second as the winning run, and knock Hanhold out of the game. Lefty reliever Jarrett Martin entered the game for Hanhold to face left-handed Garrett Kennedy, but a walk on a full count loaded the bases.

Gian Rizzo took over for Martin and got a quick strike on Dean. But, the next pitch was lined down the line in left to drive in two runs and the Loons celebrated their 4-3 victory over the Rattlers.

Wisconsin ended their nine-game road trip with a 2-7 record.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday. They return to action on Tuesday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium against the West Michigan Whitecaps. Jon Perrin (1-3, 4.56) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. The Whitecaps have named Ross Seaton (9-5, 3.63) as their starter. Game time is 7:05pm.

Wisconsin Boxscore

Well I followed this game on my phone until the 9th when I was distracted by happenings at the field where I was actually in attendance and was shocked to see the Rattlers walked off... ugh.

Nathan Kirby and Devin Williams were solid enough, the T-Rat bullpen not so much.

With just 4 hits no hitter posted more than 1 and unfortunately Blake Allemand committed his 10th error in just his 35th game.

Orlando tries to avoid capture by teammates after a walk-off double in the 10th inning of Sunday's nightcap (M.K. Krebs)

BILOXI, MS – The Biloxi Shuckers endured a strenuous day of roughly five hours’ worth of baseball at MGM Park on Sunday, wrapping up a suspended game from Saturday, followed by a full, nine-inning contest. Biloxi walked out with a split, but not without some patented MGM Park magic.

In the nightcap, the Shuckers capped off the largest comeback in franchise history by scoring five runs over the final three innings to win 7-6 in 10 innings, courtesy of a walk-off double by Orlando Arcia, scoring Nathan Orf. It marked the sixth walk-off victory at MGM Park in 26 games and fifth in extra innings.

Trailing 6-2 in the eighth inning, Biloxi improved to 1-36 when trailing after eight frames and the M-Braves dropped to 1-46 when leading after eight.

Suspended Game: Mississippi 2, Biloxi 1

On Saturday night, Biloxi opened the scoring early after a leadoff walk to Josh Fellhauer 0x3, R, 2 BB) in the first led to Victor Roache’s (1x3, RBI, BB) two-out, RBI single to give the Shuckers a 1-0 lead.

Shuckers’ starting pitcher Adrian Houser held the lead until the fifth inning. Braeden Schlehuber reached on a single to start the inning and made his way to third after back-to-back sacrifice bunts. Emerson Landoni tied the game with a RBI single to right field, bringing home Schlehuber.

After David Rohm grounded out to shortstop to start the sixth, the skies opened up on Biloxi, causing the game to be suspended and completed on Sunday.

When the game resumed, Brooks Hall (7-8) took over for Houser. The 22-year-old worked 5.1 innings due to the suspension, and allowed just one run on four hits and three strikeouts. Houser has nine strikeouts and has not issued a walk in two starts with the Shuckers.

Biloxi had a chance to tie the game in the ninth as Roache walked to get things started and made it to third after back-to-back singles by Taylor Green (2x4, 2B) and Tyrone Taylor (2x2, 2 BB). But, an Adam Weisenburger (1x4) pop out and consecutive strikeouts to pinch hitter Brett Phillips (0x1) and Fellhauer ended the Shuckers’ threat and the game.

KD Kang started the resumed game with a groundout to second, but a double by Kevin Ahrens and an infield single by Rio Ruiz got away from Nick Ramirez (0x2, BB) at first base on the throw by Orlando Arcia (0x4) from short, allowing Ahrens to score.

Game 2: Biloxi 7, Mississippi 6

The MGM Park magic struck again for the Biloxi Shuckers in the nightcap in downtown Biloxi, as the Shuckers erased a four-run deficit and walked off a 7-6 winner over the Mississippi Braves.

Nathan Orf (1x1, R) pinch hit for Yhonathan Barrios (1-0) with one out and singled back up the middle before a walk by Brett Phillips (1x3, RBI, R, 3B, BB) moved the runner into scoring position for Orlando Arcia (3x6, RBI, R). The 21-year-old shortstop drove a ball to deep center, over the head of Matt Lipka, allowing Orf to score and send the home crowd home happy.

Josh Hader (1-1) took the mound for the Shuckers to start the regularly scheduled, nine-inning contest and allowed two runs in the first inning on a two-run double by KD Kang to put Biloxi in a two-run hole after half an inning.

The Shuckers’ offense responded with a run in the first on a RBI single by Brandon Macias (2x4, 3 RBI, R, 2B, BB) to plate Josh Fellhauer (1x4, RBI, 2 R, BB) to cut the deficit in half.

Biloxi was back at it in the second, piecing together extra-base hits in Parker Berberet’s (1x5, RBI, R, 2B) double with one out and a two-out triple from Phillips to tie the game at two.

Mississippi would pull back ahead in the third with a two-out rally. The Braves loaded the bases with two outs and Sean Godfrey delivered with a two-run single, scoring David Rohm and Kang.

The M-Braves tacked on runs in the fifth and seventh to put the Shuckers in a four-run hole.

Barrios continued his dominance out of the bullpen after being acquired in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 23-year-old worked the final two frames and gave up just one hit while striking out three on 17 pitches – 15 for strikes – en route to his first win as a Shucker. In four appearances with Biloxi, the converted infielder has not allowed a run in 6.1 innings.

The Shuckers will look to even the series with the Braves on Monday night at MGM Park. RHP Tyler Wagner (9-5, 2.33) seeks to become the second 10-game winner on the Biloxi pitching staff, while RHP John Gant (2-0, 0.77) looks to remain perfect with Mississippi. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:25 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. Fans can also listen to the game using the TuneIn Radio app or by going to www.biloxishuckers.com.

Blue Jays Walk-Off in 7-6 Victory

Dunedin Sweeps Brevard County

By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees

08/09/2015 11:18 PM ET

Dunedin, FL - Anthony Alford hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Dunedin Blue Jays (18-24, 50-62 overall) defeated the Brevard County Manatees (18-23, 47-63 overall) 7-6 on Sunday night at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.

With the game tied at six, Jorge Saez led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to left field against Kaleb Earls. After a sacrifice bunt by Andy Fermin, Alford drilled a game-winning double to center field to complete the sweep for Dunedin.

The Manatees originally took the lead in the top of the first. With one out, Chris McFarland singled and came home on a double from Clint Coulter.

After Dunedin took a 2-1 lead on a two-run, first-inning homer by J.D. Davis, Brevard County responded immediately in the top of the second. Taylor Brennan singled through the left side to start the frame. After a Michael Ratterree single, Jose Pena singled to left. An error by J.D. Davis allowed Brennan to score, Ratterree to advance to third and Pena to move up to second. Steven Halcomb then lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to give the Manatees the lead.

The Blue Jays took the lead again in the bottom of the second on consecutive RBI singles from Fermin and Alford.

Garrett Cooper drilled a triple to lead off the third and scored on a ground out by Robinzon Diaz. Pena gave the Manatees the lead with a leadoff solo home run in the fourth. It was Pena's second home run of the season.

Dunedin took the lead right back in the bottom of the fourth inning. Derrick Loveless hit a solo homer to deep center off of Brevard County starter Javi Salas. Two batters later, Fermin took Salas deep. After four innings, Dunedin led, 6-5.

Salas was lifted after the fourth. He surrendered six runs - five earned - on seven hits. He walked one and struck out five. Salas allowed three solo home runs. Opponents had hit just four homers against Salas entering Sunday's contest.

Tyler Spurlin was the first man out of the bullpen for the Manatees. He tossed three shutout frames and allowed just a hit and a walk.

With Brevard County trailing 6-5, Dunedin brought in Chris Smith to pitch the top of the eighth inning. On the first pitch of Smith's outing, Pena blasted his second home run of the day to tie the game. Pena finished 4-for-4 with the two long balls. It was the second multi-home run game of the season for the Manatees. Victor Roache had two home runs for Brevard County on May 14 vs. Bradenton.

Earls (1-2, 3.24 ERA) took the loss after he allowed the double to Alford in the ninth. Smith (3-1, 0.95 ERA) was credited with the win.

Alford finished with four hits, the walk-off double, a triple and two RBI.

The Manatees will start a three-game series in Tampa tomorrow. RHP Jorge Ortega

(8-7, 2.45 ERA) will get the start for Brevard County. The Yankees will send LHP Jordan Montgomery (3-4, 3.39 ERA) to the bump. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Shuckers rally past Braves

By Doug Barber, Special to the Biloxi Sun-Herald

BILOXI - Orlando Arcia capped a Shuckers comeback Sunday night, ripping an RBI double in the bottom of the 10th inning as Biloxi beat the Mississippi Braves 7-6 in Southern League play.

The win, before 2,189 fans at MGM Park, snapped a three-game losing streak.

Earlier in the day, the Braves beat the Shuckers 2-1 to complete a game that was suspended Saturday night after 6 1/3 innings.

The Shuckers trailed 6-2 before scoring one run in the eighth, three in the ninth and one in the 10th.

Arcia had three hits, including a double.

"In both games we came back,'' Biloxi manager Carlos Subero said. "In the second game, we were down by four and came back against two of their best relievers.

Shuckers third baseman Brandon Macias collected three RBIs, including a two-run double to tie the game at 6 in the bottom of the ninth.

"(Brandon) Macias came in and gave us three RBIs. He just keeps doing it quietly'', stated Subero.

Braves center fielder Sean Godfrey drove in three runs on three hits. He hit a two-run single in the third and a RBI triple in the seventh.

"We have some momentum,'' Subero said. "In the last few series, we've been losing two and winning three. It's been a trend. We need to start winning those first and second games.''

Game 4 of the five-game series with the Mississippi Braves continues Monday at 6:40 p.m.PM.

Biloxi's Tyler Wagner (9-5, 2.33) will oppose Mississippi's John Gant (2-0, 0.77) in the pitching matchup.

The series with the Braves concludes Tuesday, then Pensacola comes to MGM Park on Wednesday.

Nathan Orf singled with one out in the 10th. Brett Phillips then drew a walk before Arcias doubled to left center and the Shuckers started celebrating.

The Braves went up 2-0 in the first as K.D. Kang hit an opposite-field two-run double to left, scoring Levi Hyams and David Rohm.

The Shuckers cut the lead in half at 2-1 when Macias delivered a two-out RBI single to right in the bottom of the first. Then Phillips tied the game at 2 in the second with an RBI triple to deep center.

Mississippi answered in the top of the third as Sean Godfrey delivered a two-out, two-run single to center for a 4-2 lead.

Then Kevin Ahrens smashed a solo homer into the left field screen to up the lead to 5-2 in the fifth.

The Shuckers pushed across a run in the eighth on an RBI groundout by Parker Berberet, then scored three runs in bottom of ninth to force extra innings. Macias' two-run double tied the game at 6.

Final: Helena 10, Idaho Falls 8

Brewers end skid with 10-8 win

Helena Brewers

The Helena Brewers (3-7) snapped their six-game home losing streak with a 10-8 win on Sunday over the Idaho Falls Chukars (8-2). The win would also end the Chukars' eight-game winning streak, their longest since 2007.

Lefty Jake Drossner started off hot for Helena, facing the minimum in his first three innings and striking out three. At that point, he had struck out 12 batters over his last seven innings. Things turned south however in the fourth and fifth and Drossner would leave with five runs and five hits to his name.

The Brewers took an early 3-0 lead, scoring a run in each of the first three innings.

Malik Collymore doubled to lead off the bottom of the first for Helena, and later scored on the sacrifice fly of Steven Karkenny. Collymore now has ten hits in five games in the Brewers' system, going 2-for-4 on Sunday.

Jose Cuas led the Helena offense, hitting a solo home run in the second off Derek Gordon (1-3). Cuas posted a huge game, going 3-for-4 with two homers, a triple, four RBI, and three runs scored. He is just the second Brewer this year to record a multi-homer game along with Troy Stokes.

Yerison Pena made his U.S. debut, playing third base and going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, an RBI, and two runs.

Bubba Blau (3-4) picked up the win, pitching two innings of relief. He gave up one run on two hits and struck out two.

Marcos Diplan struggled to close the game, but did pick up his second professional save.

The Chukars trailed 10-6 going to the ninth and managed to get the tying run in scoring position. D.J. Burt scored on a wild pitch and Brawlun Gomez smacked an RBI single to score Josh Banuelos. Ryan Dale would strike out swinging to end the game.

The win ends Helena's three-game losing streak, their six-game home losing streak, and puts to an end the eight-game winning streak of the Chukars.

The Brewers now host the Ogden Raptors in a three-game series starting Monday at Kindrick Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM (8:05 Central).

Helena Box Score

A reminder that RHP Marcos Diplan is still 18 years old until next month -- his line here 3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 3 K, 3 WP.

Troy Stokes (CF in this one) doesn't dazzle with his .246 average, but the young man finds a way. He walked once and was plunked twice here, has a .392 OBP and ten of his 33 hits have gone for extra bases.

As noted above, have a day Jose Cuas, wow!

For switch-hitting Yerison Pena, who turned 21 in the middle of his 2012 rookie year in the Tigers' system, welcome to the U.S. after 213 DSL games. The dude rocked for three Detroit seasons yet was released, so this turns out to be a just reward, love the fact it's Helena and not just Maryvale.

This just in -- Malik Collymore had a much better day than Jonathan Broxton.

Sox Drop Finale With Dodgers In 4-1 Loss

The Sky Sox dropped the final game of their five-game set in Oklahoma City with a 4-1 loss to the Dodgers before a crowd of 5,140 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark on Sunday evening.

Spot-starter Ariel Pena (1-2, 4.94) allowed two unearned runs in the first inning thanks to a throwing error by Yadiel Rivera that allowed Jose Peraza to reach safely in OKC’s first at-bat. Pena hit Darwin Barney with a pitch in the following AB before giving up an RBI single to Corey Seager to score the game’s first run. O’Koyea Dickson added a sac fly to plate Barney and extend the Dodgers lead to 2-0 after one.

Pena went 1.2 innings, allowing the two unearned runs on two hits and a walk while striking out two before turning the ball over to Austin Ross with two out in the second.

Ross gave up a solo shot to Scott Schebler in the fourth in his only mistake of the evening. The right-hander allowed the one run-scoring hit while striking out three over 3.1 impressive innings of relief. The long ball gave OKC a 3-0 advantage after four with their starter keeping Colorado Springs’ offense at bay.

Left-hander Eric Surkamp (6-3, 3.96) surrendered just three hits while striking out three and walking none over five innings of work. Right-hander Mike Bolsinger provided the Dodgers with 3.2 innings of perfect relief, striking out five after taking over for Surkamp in the sixth.

David Goforth allowed an unearned run in the Dodger eighth when Kyle Jensen plated Andy Wilkins from third on a sac fly to right to extend the OKC lead to 4-0 through eighth. Goforth struck out two in the frame while allowing one hit in his lone inning of work, following two scoreless frames by right-hander Rob Wooten.

The Sky Sox would scratch one run across in their final turn at the plate as Pete Orr and Domingo Santana used back-to-back two-out singles against righty reliever Chris Hatcher to end the Dodgers’ shutout chances. Santana’s knock gave him nine RBIs in eight games since joining the Sox.

Hatcher closed out the contest, getting Matt Clark to fly out to secure a 4-1 series-ending win for the home team Dodgers. Oklahoma City improves to 68-47 with the win as Colorado Springs falls to 47-66.

The Sox take a much-deserved off day on Monday before travelling to Round Rock to take on the Express in the first of a condensed six-game set on Tuesday night at Dell Diamond. First pitch is slated for 6:05 PM MDT (7:05 Central) with starters to be determined.

Colorado Springs Box Score

A confidence-boosting outing for RH reliever Austin Ross; RHP Ariel Pena had been stretched out to five innings in his latest outing, not sure why the quick exit here...

RF Michael Reed was 1-for-14 in the four OKC games, seems like it's been more than eight AAA games thus far for Reed, but so it is (.699 AAA OPS despite the rough series).

Nevin Ashley has been money all season - he'll be 31 years old in four days; yes, Juan Centeno is on the 40-man and will turn 26 in November, but the Brewers have the 40-man room to reward Ashley with a September call-up if they see fit. That doesn't mean it will or should happen, just saying it'd be justifiable if it did. Hopefully they can entice Ashley to return in '16, and Martin Maldonado's agent was wise to set up a two-year deal prior to this season.

Final: AZL Reds 6, AZL Brewers 1, 12 innings

Maryvale Box Score

Well, by the score, you can tell how that 12th inning went...

For 11 innings, the Brewers' quartet of 36th round RHP Jordan Desguin (four IP), RHP Brandon Kintzler (1.1 IP), RHP Orlando Torrez (3.2 IP), and undrafted RHP Jose Flores (2 IP) did not allow an earned run, on a combined nine hits and one walk. But Flores' 3rd inning of work proved rough, as you'll see in the game log.

As for the Brewers, really?

Wow, Lara is really in a massive slump. Cmon kid, shake it off.

I wonder if he is homesick? I've lived in another country before (where English isn't he first language) and there is a psychological cycle that kicks in after 4-6 weeks. You go into a "I'm tired of this" lull, then you come out of it after another month or so. Its well known enough that it was actually taught in my cultural training prior to moving to that country.
