Congratulations go out to David Denson!

 

Denson Added To Pioneer League All-Star Team

 

SPOKANE, WASH. - Jim McCurdy, President of the Pioneer Baseball League, announced today that due to a promotion, Helena's David Denson will replace Ogden's Willie Calhoun on the Pioneer League roster for the inaugural Pioneer Baseball League vs. Northwest League All-Star Game.

 

Denson is in his third professional season after being drafted in the 15th Round of the 2013 MLB Draft. Entering Friday's game, Denson is hitting .279 with nine doubles, four home runs, 13 RBI, and 15 walks.

 

The inaugural Pioneer Baseball League vs. Northwest League All-Star Game will be held on August 4, 2015 at Avista Stadium in Spokane, Wash. - the home of the Spokane Indians of the Northwest League.

Hiram Burgos is doing his best to say, "Don't leave me out of the picture!" 6 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 9 K. Since going to AAA, 3.10 ERA (in Colorado Springs), 49.1 IP, 37 H, 40 K, only 2 HRs. Walks a little high, but finding his groove again.

 

Austin Ross... not so much. He and Guilmet seeing who can have the worse night.

DSL Brewers Box Score

 

The Red Sox scored five runs, despite collecting just four hits as they knocked off the Brewers 5-2. Nattino Diplan started and struggled with his command, walking six batters in 4.1 innings. He allowed four runs, three earned and suffered his sixth loss of the season. Deymar Alvarado followed and tossed 2.2 innings, giving up one run. Maiker Pinto tossed a scoreless eighth.

 

Third baseman Julio Mendez and center fielder Marcos Pinero each had two hits with Pinero knocking in a pair of runs. Shortstop Franly Mallen went 1-for-3 with a walk and a double for the only other Brewers hit of the game.

Shuckers fall on walk-off wild pitch in the ninth

Adrian Houser debuts and allows three runs over 5.2 innings with six strikeouts

MOBILE, AL - The Biloxi Shuckers had opportunities to take a late lead over the Mobile BayBears, but a walk-off wild pitch, with the bases loaded in the ninth was the difference in the 4-3 defeat on Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. This is the third consecutive series that tthe Shuckers have dropped the first two games, with Biloxi winning the final three contests in each of the previous two sets.

 

Martin Viramontes (0-1) took the mound to start the ninth and permitted a leadoff single to Mark Thomas. A sacrifice bunt by Tom Belza moved the runner into scoring position. An infield single by Evan Marzilli and a walk to Jack Reinheimer loaded the bases for Zach Borenstein, who hit a sharp liner to Nathan Orf at third for the second out. With Garrett Weber at the plate, a wild pitch by Viramontes allowed Thomas to score from third for the winning run.

 

Monday was just the second time the Shuckers have been walked-off against in their inaugural season.

 

Adrian Houser, making his Shuckers and Brewers' organization debut started the bottom of the first by striking out the first batter he faced in Marzilli, and scattered four hits in the first five innings while striking out five.

 

Mobile (23-13) tied things up at three with a one-out, three-run home run by Socrates Brito. Houser struck out Raul Navarro for his final out of the game before being replaced in a double switch for Jed Bradley (IP, H, SO). Houser came over from Houston last Thursday in a trade that sent Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers to the Astros.

 

The 22-year-old allowed three runs on seven hits, no walks and six strikeouts. The former second-round pick becomes the first Biloxi starter to toss more than five innings and not walk a batter since Tyler Wagner accomplished the feat on July 1 against the Mississippi Braves.

 

Biloxi (16-18) offered Milwaukee Brewers' fans a glimpse of the future with a two-out rally in the third to grab the early lead. Orlando Arcia's (2x3, RBI, 2 R, 2B, BB) double followed a walk to Brett Phillips (0x3, R, 2 BB) to bring home the first run of the game for the Shuckers. Arcia swiped third for his first stolen base of the game with Orf (2x3, 2 RBI, 3B, BB) at the plate, who promptly tripled to center to give Biloxi a 2-0 lead.

 

A two-out walk to Arcia sparked another rally in the fifth, as the 20-year-old stole second and came around to score on a single by Orf for a 3-0 advantage over the BayBears. Arcia extended his hitting streak to six games and has five steals over his last four games, moving him up to 20 on the season.

 

The Shuckers had a chance to retake the lead in the eighth with a leadoff single by Arcia and a walk to Orf, but back-to-back strikeouts to Nick Ramirez (0x3, BB) and Victor Roache (0x4) made two outs before Tyrone Taylor (0x3) flew out to right field to end the threat.

 

Biloxi will look to avoid dropping the series at Mobile on Tuesday night after back-to-back one-run losses. Newcomer LHP Josh Hader (0-0, --) will make his first start as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers' organization after coming over in the same trade that brought Houser and Phillips over from Houston. Mobile will send out RHP Yoan Lopez (1-4, 3.46), who will be making his third start of the season against the Shuckers (0-1, 2.67). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. Bullpen Blows Two Late Leads In 12-10 Loss

 

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO —The Sky Sox dropped a wild 12-10 contest to the Iowa Cubs in disappointing fashion before a crowd of 2,145 at Security Service Field on Monday night.

 

The Sky Sox got off to yet another fast start, this time against Iowa starter Felipe Paulino as Colorado Springs plated a first-inning run on an RBI single by Jason Rogers that scored Kyle Wren from third. The first-inning run was the fourth scored by the Sox offense in the opening frame in their last two games.

 

Iowa tied it up at one with a run in the fourth thanks to a run-scoring error by first baseman Matt Clark. Sox starter Hiram Burgos would work out of the inning without further damage before the Colorado Springs offense took control in the very next frame.

 

Michael Reed and Yadiel Rivera combined to drive in three runs in the home fourth on RBI singles as five Sox hitters reached safely on four hits and a Clark hit-by-pitch.

 

Rogers, who drove in three on Monday night, finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored and a two-run home run that extended the Sox lead to 6-2 in the seventh. The long ball came off of Iowa left-handed reliever Zac Rosscup with one out in the frame.

 

Burgos allowed just two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out a whopping nine I-Cubs batters over six extremely strong innings of work before handing the ball off to David Goforth for a scoreless seventh.

 

Paulino would exit after allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out four over six. Rosscup surrendered three total runs in relief, including Rogers’ two-run shot, to help Colorado Springs extend their lead to 7-3 through seven.

 

After seven impressive innings from their first two pitchers, the final four arms out of the Sox pen would combine to allow 10 runs (nine earned) over the game’s final two frames. Austin Ross would not record an out in the top of the eighth as he was tagged for five runs (four earned) on two hits and two walks with the big blow coming on a John Andreoli bases-clearing triple.

 

After the six-run I-Cubs eighth, Colorado Springs trailed 9-7 heading into the home half of the inning. The Sox offense battled back, scoring three runs on four hits and an intentional walk against reliever Joe Ortiz (3-1, 5.54) to retake a 10-8 lead going to the ninth. RBI knocks by Wren and Luis Sardinas gave the Sox the late lead once again before Domingo Santana plated a run with an RBI groundout. The RBI was Santana’s fourth in two games since joining the Sky Sox.

 

Rob Wooten (4-2, 6.25) and Jeremy Horst could not keep the Iowa offense at bay in the ninth as the Cubs rallied for four runs on three hits and two walks with Javy Baez’s bases-clearing two-out double serving as the proverbial dagger. Carl Edwards, Jr. (S, 2) came on to toss a scoreless bottom of the ninth, securing the back-and-forth battle for Iowa with a 12-10 defeat of the Sox.

 

Colorado Springs would ultimately outhit Iowa 16-12 as Wren, Sardinas, Rogers, Clark and Juan Centeno each recorded multi-hit games for the Sox.

 

With the loss, the Sky Sox fell to 43-64 while the I-Cubs improved to 59-50. The Sky Sox will look to salvage the final game of this four-game set with Iowa on Tuesday night as RHP Drew Gagnon (1-11, 7.00) takes the hill against RHP Carlos Pimentel (7-5, 3.28). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM MDT (7:35 Central) from Security Service Field.
