Tune in not working for Manatees game and they just got 5 runs in the 2nd. Looks like two guys reached base attempting to sacrifice and there was an error to allow another baserunner. Manatees have not had to do all that much for the 5 runs.

Manatees win the opener 6-3 with a 6 run 2nd inning. Not the best Manatee outing for Cy Sneed frankly but he did have a big lead. Kaleb Earls worked the last two innings. Omar Garcia stole his 40th base of the season. Manatees had no fewer than 5 batters hit by pitch in this game. Link report after the 2nd game.

The team tweeted that Segovia hurt his ankle.

Voice of the H-Crew, Dustin Daniel, via Twitter:

Another unfortunate injury for the Brewers. Joantgel Segovia breaks his ankle, is done for the season.

Looked like a sprain last night, even after the game as he tried to walk it off. Broken in three places. Very similar to Monte Harrison's injury.

Malik Carrymore's arrival now essential as Helena has two outfielders and a couple of stretch infielders.

Tough break (literally) for the 18-year-old 2014 DSL batting champ who excelled in Maryvale earlier this season.

At least, unlike Orlando Arcia at age 17 when in Maryvale, who broke his ankle in extended spring training, this injury is as of July 31st.

Prospect Roundup: Games of July 31

Brewers SS Orlando Arcia, Double-A Biloxi: 4-for-6, R, BB, 2 SB (Doubleheader) -- Arcia, known as a stellar young defensive shortstop, is having a breakout year on the other side of the ball. Through his first 93 games at the Double-A level, the 20-year-old Venezuelan is slashing .300/.343/.438 with 17 stolen bases, 26 doubles, five triples and five homers. He came into Friday on a 2-for-28 skid but in the first game of a doubleheader slapped a single. He followed that up with a 3-for-3 nightcap in which he ripped off two bags.

Quad Cities shuts out the Rattlers

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattler

Carlos Leal had two of Wisconsin's three hits on Saturday at Quad Cities. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica)

DAVENPORT, IA - Three Quad Cities River Bandits pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout in a 5-0 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Saturday night at Modern Woodmen Park. The loss was the third straight for the Rattlers.

The River Bandits (68-36 overall, 23-13 second half) used a two-out rally in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. Nick Tanielu doubled on a 3-2 pitch with two outs and none on base. Ryan Bottger followed with an RBI single to left. Rattlers starting pitcher David Carver issued a walk to Ramon Laureano to keep the inning alive. Jose Fernandez was next and he singled to right to drive in Bottger for a 2-0 lead. Carver walked the next batter to load the bases, but escaped the inning without more damage.

Quad Cities added to their lead in the bottom of the third. Bryan Muniz hit a sinking line drive to left with Jose Fernandez at first and two outs. Mitch Meyer charged, but couldn't make the play as the liner dropped in for a hit and the ball skipped by Meyer all the way to the wall. Fernandez scored easily as Muniz raced around to third base.

Wisconsin (36-69, 13-22) couldn't get to the Quad Cities starting pitcher for the second night in a row. On Friday night, Elieser Hernandez tossed 6-2/3 scoreless innings. Joshua James pitched 5-2/3 innings on Saturday without allowing a run, but needed some help to escape the sixth inning unscathed.

Carlos Leal reached base with a one-out single. Alan Sharkey drew a two-out walk on four straight pitches and that spelled the end of the night for James. Michael Freeman came out of the River Bandits bullpen. His first pitch went for a passed ball to move runners to second and third. However, Freeman stranded the runners in scoring position when got the final out of the inning with a strikeout. Freeman retired all seven batters he faced in the game, including four strikeouts.

The River Bandits added two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning against reliever Tyler Linehan. Muniz singled to knock in Fernandez from second base. Jason Martin accounted for the final run of the game with a single to drive in Muniz.

Riley Ferrell pitched a scoreless, hitless ninth inning to finish the game. Quad Cities has outscored the Rattlers 12-1 in the first two games of the series.

Leal had two of Wisconsin's three hits in the game and Sharkey drew two of the four walks coaxed by the Timber Rattlers offense. Wisconsin got one runner to third base in the game and had just two at bats with a runner in scoring position.

The Timber Rattlers are 1-10 in eleven games against the River Bandits this season. That includes an 0-5 record at Modern Woodmen Park in 2015.

The final game of the series is Sunday evening. David Burkhalter (3-6, 4.71) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Brock Dykxhoorn (5-3, 3.74) is set to go for the River Bandits. Game time is 5:15pm.

Follow the action on the AM1280, WNAM radio broadcast starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 4:55pm. The broadcast may also be heard on Tune In Radio and IHeartRadio. Subscribers to MiLB.TV may watch the game on that platform with the Quad Cities announcers.

WP: Joshua James (4-2)

LP: David Carver (1-2)

TIME: 2:36

ATTN: 7,318

Wisconsin Boxscore

I highlighted the attendance because 7,318 is an astounding number for an A ball game. Wisconsin has been pulverized by the better teams in the league this season, it's been tough going all year.

Wisconsin Recap

The Damage to David Carver would have been much worse if not for the fantastic work in the field (Meyer error aside):

Quad Cities Bottom of the 2nd

  • Kristian Trompiz singles on a ground ball to center fielder Omar Cotto.
Jason Martin singles on a line drive to left fielder Mitch Meyer. Kristian Trompiz out at 3rd on the throw, left fielder Mitch Meyer to third baseman Sthervin Matos. Jason Martin to 2nd on the throw.
With Bobby Boyd batting, Jason Martin steals (12) 3rd base.
Bobby Boyd reaches on a fielder's choice out, second baseman Tucker Neuhaus to catcher Carlos Leal. Jason Martin out at home.
Nick Tanielu flies out to left fielder Mitch Meyer.

Technically this run saved would have scored regardless of the choice Matos made but at the time it seemed big.

Quad Cities Bottom of the 3rd

  • Ryan Bottger flies out to left fielder Mitch Meyer.
    Ramon Laureano walks.
With Jose Fernandez batting, Ramon Laureano steals (11) 2nd base.
With Jose Fernandez batting, wild pitch by David Carver, Ramon Laureano to 3rd.
Jose Fernandez reaches on a fielder's choice out, third baseman Sthervin Matos to catcher Carlos Leal. Ramon Laureano out at home.
Bryan Muniz singles on a fly ball to left fielder Mitch Meyer. Jose Fernandez scores. Bryan Muniz to 3rd. Fielding error by left fielder Mitch Meyer.
With Garrett Stubbs batting, Carlos Leal picks off Bryan Muniz at 3rd on throw to Sthervin Matos.

Final: DSL Brewers 4, DSL Mets2 1

DSL Brewers Box Score

When I saw the Mets were held to one run, I didn't even have to look at the box score to know it was Carlos Luna on the mound. He's been that good this season. Today he went seven innings and gave up just one unearned run. He allowed one hit and one walk while striking out six to earn his fourth win. He's allowed jut six earned runs in 51 plus innings this season and has 46 strikeouts compared to just eight walks. Veteran Juan Diaz worked the final two innings without allowing a run to collect his second save.

21-year-old outfielder Anderson Jesus led the offense, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run batted in. Second baseman Henry Correa had a single and a double. Javier Castillo had two base hits. Sandy Martinez doubled and Franly Mallen singled and stole a base.

Jupiter, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees (15-18, 44-58 overall) plated six runs in the top of the second inning en route to a 6-3 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads (13-23, 48-58 overall) in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Roger Dean Stadium.

With the score 0-0 after one, Dustin Houle singled to right field to lead off the second inning. After Rafael Neda was hit by a pitch, Steven Halcomb dropped down a bunt. The bunt was fielded by starting pitcher Jose Adames, but his throw was errant. Houle scored, Neda moved to third and Halcomb advanced to second on the error. Angel Ortega then singled on a liner to right field and plated Neda. The next batter, Omar Garcia, reached on a bunt single and scored Halcomb. The Manatees led, 3-0. Chris McFarland then lined a single to center field and plated Ortega. Clint Coulter reached on a throwing error by Brian Anderson at third. Garcia scored on the error and McFarland advanced to second. Adames then hit Taylor Brennan with a pitch to load the bases. Two batters later, Houle lifted a sacrifice fly to center field against reliever Esmerling De La Rosa.

Jupiter scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Brian Anderson hit a two-run single and Blake Barber recorded an RBI on a sac fly.

Brevard County starter Cy Sneed (3-1, 3.09 ERA) earned the win. He surrendered three runs on six hits over five innings. Kaleb Earls tossed two scoreless innings to record his fifth save of the year.

Adames (3-3, 3.70 ERA) took the loss after he did not record an out in the second inning. He gave up six runs - four earned - on five hits.

Garcia and McFarland each had two hits in the victory. Garcia recorded his 40th stolen base of the year. The Manatees had nine hits. All nine were singles.

Anderson's Three-Run Homer Guides Hammerheads to Doubleheader Split

Jupiter Scores Four in the First in Game Two Victory

By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees

08/01/2015 10:41 PM ET

Jupiter, Fla. - Brian Anderson's first-inning, three-run home run led the Jupiter Hammerheads (14-23, 49-58 overall) to a 4-2 victory over the Brevard County Manatees (15-19, 44-59 overall) in game two of Saturday night's doubleheader at Roger Dean Stadium.

Yefri Perez led off the bottom of the first inning with a double down the left field line against Brevard County starter Zach Hirsch. Two batters later, Austin Dean drove home Perez with an RBI single to center field. After an Avery Romero single, Anderson smacked a three-run home run over the left field wall. It was his ninth homer of the season.

Hirsch (1-2, 4.24 ERA) settled down after the four-run first. He pitched a six-inning complete game. Hirsch surrendered four runs on eight hits.

The Manatees plated a pair of runs in the sixth. With one out, Paul Eshleman reached on a fielding error by right fielder Austin Dean. Steven Halcomb then singled to left field. With two men on, Angel Ortega doubled on a liner to left. Eshleman scored to put the Manatees on the board. After C.J. Robinson replaced starter Chipper Smith, Omar Garcia singled to the opposite field and scored Halcomb. After Garcia was caught stealing, Chris McFarland lined out to right to end the threat.

Smith (2-3, 4.66 ERA) earned the win. He allowed two runs - just one earned - on seven hits. He struck out six. Robinson recorded the final five outs to earn his second save of the season.

Halcomb and Ortega each had two hits in the loss.

The Manatees will look for a series split in the finale tomorrow afternoon. LHP Wei-Chung Wang (7-3, 3.99 ERA) will toe the rubber for Brevard County. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Final: Jackson 0, Biloxi 2

Lopez becomes 10-game winner in 2-0 shutout of Generals in rubber match

Victor Roache extended his on-base streak to 17 games in the win.

Biloxi Shuckers

Jorge Lopez improved to 10-4 with a 2-0 shutout win over Jackson (M.K. Krebs)

BILOXI, MS - Jorge Lopez became the second Southern League pitcher to reach 10 wins after holding the Jackson Generals (11-24) scoreless in a 2-0 victory for the Biloxi Shuckers on Saturday night at MGM Park. The shutout was the second in three games and clinched a third-straight win and another series win, now 12 of 15 in series play since May 17.

The win brings Biloxi back to .500 in the second half for the first time since the team was 10-10 on July 16, and keeps it four games out of first place in the Southern League South with a five-game series against the first-place Mobile BayBears on deck.

Fresh off the seven-day disabled list, Brandon Macias (2x3, 2 RBI) came up clutch for Biloxi (17-17) in the seventh inning to break the scoreless tie and put the Shuckers up, 2-0.

Nick Ramirez (2x2, R, 2 BB) drew a walk to put the leadoff man aboard for the first time in the game for Biloxi and advanced to third, two batters later on Josh Fellhauer's (1x3, R, 2B) double into left field. Adam Weisenburger (1x3) flew out to right field in foul territory for the second out of the inning before Macias drove an 0-2 pitch into center to plate the runners and put the Shuckers in the lead.

Lopez (10-4) ran into little trouble in his eight innings of shutout ball. On 104 pitches, the 22-year-old gave up six hits and walked three, but picked up six strikeouts in his 11th quality start of the season. The righty did run into a jam in the eighth, allowing three consecutive one-out singles. After a visit by pitching coach Chris Hook, Lopez struck out Tyler Smith and induced a ground out from Zach Shank to dance out of the inning unscathed. Saturday's start was the fourth time in 2015 the Puerto Rico native held an opponent scoreless while pitching six or more innings.

Lopez lowered his ERA to 2.52, which will rank fourth in the league going into play on Sunday. The Shuckers have now won 14 of his 19 starts this season.

Victor Roache (1x4) went into the eighth inning without reaching base, but singled into left field to extend his on-base streak to 17 games. Brett Phillips made his Shuckers and Brewers organization debut on Saturday night going 0-for-4. Phillips was acquired in the deal that sent center fielder Carlos Gomez and pitcher Mike Fiers to the Astros on Thursday.

The Shuckers take to the road and face off against the first-place Mobile BayBears for a pivotal five-game series. It has yet to be determined who will take the mound for Biloxi in game one, but the Mobile will send out RHP Braden Shipley (8-8, 3.97). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m., with coverage beginning at 4:50 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. Fans can also listen to the game using the TuneIn Radio app or by going to www.biloxishuckers.com.

Lopez takes control in Shuckers shutout

Brewers prospect escapes eighth-inning jam en route to 10th win

By Alex Kraft / MiLB.com

As Jorge Lopez watched the ball roll off Zach Shank's bat and turn into a groundout, avoiding a potential bases-loaded disaster, he couldn't help but be fired up.

"He knew that that was his game at that moment," said Lopez's pitching coach, Chris Hook. "It was his and he took control of it and gave it a big exclamation point at the end."

The Brewers' No. 9 prospect survived an eighth-inning threat to cap a performance in which he scattered six hits and three walks while striking out six as Double-A Biloxi blanked Jackson, 2-0, at MGM Park.

After Lopez improved to 10-4, his pitching coach did not hold back in his praise of the 22-year-old right-hander.

"Jorge has been slowly developing into one of the best pitchers, if not the best pitcher in the Southern League," Hook said. "Tonight was a great example of him taking over the game, slowing the game down and making big pitches when he needed to."

Lopez cruised through seven innings, using a mid-90s fastball in tandem with his changeup and slider to keep the Generals from advancing past second base.

The eighth inning was a different story. After retiring Aderlin Rodriguez on a groundout, the Puerto Rico native surrendered consecutive singles to Jabari Henry, Tyler Bortnick and Mariners No. 22 prospect Ian Miller to load the bases.

That brought up Tyler Smith, who already had two hits and was 7-for-14 in the series. He didn't even make contact against Lopez.

Biloxi's Jorge Lopez strikes out Jackson's Tyler Smith in the eighth inning against the Generals

"Smith, he's had a great series against us," Hook noted. "That was a big punchout. He was able to string together some nice changeups and then the curveball."

Lopez put together an equally good pitch sequence against Shank, whose grounder ended the inning.

"Really just a great moment for him to finish up his eighth shutout inning," Hook said. "Really big moment for him, and big for him for his development."

The outing represented the evolution Lopez has undergone over the season's second half. Not only has the 2011 second-round pick outperformed his first-half numbers across the board -- with a 1.88 ERA, .208 opponents' average and 46-to-15 strikeout-to-walk ratio in seven starts -- he has also shown a penchant for pitching in unfavorable situations.

"I think he's evolved into that kind of pitcher, and I think that's what he's learning to be," Hook said. "At the beginning of the year, I couldn't say that, but as we have seen him grow and develop throughout the year, you see him getting better at slowing the game down and continuing to make his pitch even though he may be in a hitter's count. That's the thing that we're trying to teach here. As you get to the big league level and you get in hitters' counts, you still have to make your pitch and make a quality pitch."

At this point, the coach continued, Lopez's stuff is as good as it needs to be. The only concern for Hook involved Lopez's situational approach -- like the eighth inning on Saturday.

"Tonight was a great development situation and he just has to continue to do that and continue to sharpen it," Hook said. "He's not out there throwing anymore. This guy is becoming a three-pitch solid mix type of pitcher where he is out there pitching, out there executing. He has matured into a very well-rounded pitcher that shows the makings of being a good big leaguer."

Brewers top prospect Orlando Arcia went 2-for-4 with a double, while Brandon Macias rapped a go-ahead two-run single in the seventh in his first game off the disabled list. The decisive hit came off reliever Andrew Kittredge (1-1).
