About what can be expected for a return for KRod?

Not sure if next year's contract - $7.5M plus a $2M buyout for 2017 (or a $6M salary if I am correct) makes k-rod more or less valuable.

Less most reports say teams don't like that future money. He would be better off as a rental.

Bah, phooey! They don't care about his contract, they care about his history of domestic violence. He's at worst league-average pay for a closer. Excluding pre-arby guys:

Melancon - $5.4M (and a free agent - we'll see what he gets)

Storen - $5.7M and pre-arby

Kimbrel - $24M over next 2 years, possibly $37M over next three years

Perkins - $12.8M/$19.3M over next 2/3 years

Casilla - $5M

Street - $17M over next two years, possibly $27M over next three years

Grilli - $4.25M (and 38 years old)

Miller - $27M over next three years

Soria - $7M

Uehara - $9M this year and next (and 40 years old)

Holland - $8.25M and pre-arby

Robertson - $36M over next three years

Clippard - $8.3M

Papelbon - $13M, possibly $13M next season if he finishes 55 games

Jansen - $7.4M and pre-arby

Chapman - $8M and pre-arby

Don't tell me teams are afraid of his contract when every other closer in the league is getting at least as much per year if not more. Pre-arby guys are getting $7/8M per year, so going closer rate is at least that much.

Well if they are afraid of his domestic violence past that means they are afraid of commitment and that means they are afraid of the contract. So yes they are afraid of the contract.

No, they are afraid of the PR backlash from the transaction.

No way. Just not a chance that holds back an organization.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

How many fans outside of Milwaukee even know about his past? Then how many care? I am going to assume that % is quite small. People are more concerned about his 30 pitches of terror than some domestic violence.

The only place it's ever mentioned is on BF. I wouldn't be surprised if there are team executives who don't even know anything about it.

Regardless, I find it extremely hard to believe that teams are scared of his contract when that's the going rate for closers. Highly likely it is rumors intentionally spread by teams looking to lower what they have to pay for K-Rod or increase the demand for their players (Papelbon, etc.).

I think Ray Rice changed how sports executives (except Attanasio) view domestic violence.

"The most successful (people) know that performance over the long haul is what counts. If you can seize the day, great. But never forget that there are days yet to come."
