Every Tuesday, before the rigors of team meetings, batting practice and crouching his 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame behind the plate the better part of the day, Helena Brewers catcher Milan Post employs a miniature syringe.

Final: AZL Royals 9, AZL Brewers 2

Maryvale Box Score

Brewers fall to 19-5 KC squad; 2014 15th round RHP Caleb Smith (Rice) ran into trouble in his 4th inning of work; when you review the Maryvale pitching staff, you'll see it's almost exclusively now lower-round and non-drafted pitchers (save for 3rd round Texas HS pick Nash Walters), and many of these arms have pitched admirably.

Rather non-descript offensive performance, the kids atop the lineup had set a tough early precedent to maintain...

Despite five consecutive wins, how different is the Colorado Springs roster (currently full at 13 pitchers, 12 position players) going to look later this month, or even this week?

RH reliever Corey Knebel is a likely candidate to be sent to AAA upon the Matt Garza activation; another player leaves the big league roster when Wily Peralta returns early next week; Pete Orr just wrapped up his Pan Am-excused absence; Gord Ash was interviewed on WSSP's Sunday Brewers' pre-game and said Jim Henderson should be back soon; RHP John Ely looked good in his most recent Maryvale rehab stint; apparently newly-signed LHP Jeremy Horst is on his way; OF Bryan Petersen is currently in taxi squad inactive land, and we don't know if C Robinzon Diaz' injury status is short- or long-term.

That's eight possible "too many bodies", and while only Knebel is of real future concern, it could make for a very active roster shuffle the next couple of weeks, and all that says nothing about possible trade acquisitions as well.

Brewers announce RHP John Ely has been released.

From Wednesday of this week --

Dodgers release Drillers saves leader Jeremy Horst

Barry Lewis, Tulsa World Sports Writer

In a season filled with surprising roster moves for the Tulsa Drillers, there was another Wednesday as saves leader and Texas League all-star lefty Jeremy Horst (career stats, major and minor) was released by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Horst, 29, had a 1.64 ERA and nine saves in 32 appearances for Tulsa. He had a 3.33 ERA in 72 relief outings in the majors from 2011-13.

Considering his performance and experience, it was stunning he never was promoted from Tulsa.

Horst was a team leader with the Drillers and had organized a team outing the previous day.

It shouldn't take very long for Horst to hook on with another organization. For example, St. Louis would have been better off with Horst, who has better stuff than lefty Nick Greenwood, who gave up a walkoff homer on Saturday at Pittsburgh.

To replace Horst, the Dodgers are sending Tulsa another reliever with major league experience, hard-throwing Juan Jaime.

The reason we post this is that Devan Fink, one of the new breed of teenage transaction news gatherers, tweets "Source: #Brewers agree to sign LHP Jeremy Horst on a minor league deal. Will likely sign Monday and report to Triple-A Colorado Springs."

Follow-up tweet: Horst's deal with #Brewers is pending a physical.

CBS Sports picked up and ran with the report.

Horst most recently pitched in the big leagues (not particularly well) with the Phillies in 2013, as his linked stat page above indicates. He was stellar during a 32-game run with Philadelphia in 2012, however.

The Brewers announce that Horst has indeed signed, but will be assigned to Biloxi.

To make room, RH closer Damien Magnifico goes on the Shuckers' 7-day DL with an unidentified injury.
