DSL Brewers Box Score

The struggles continued for 18-year-old Nelson Hernandez. He got roughed up once again, allowing eight runs (six earned) on eleven hits over five innings as he suffered the loss. On the right side, he did not walk a batter. Yomelbin Almonte followed Hernandez on the mound and worked two clean innings, retiring all six batters he faced. Yunior Santana got the eighth inning and allowed a run without giving up a hit. He walked three batters and uncorked a pair of wild pitches.

Franly Mallen had the lone extra-base hit for the Brewers as he went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. 18-year-old Henry Correa, who has been playing a lot of outfield recently, reached base three times with a single and two walks. Third baseman Javier Castillo reached three times with a single and a walk.

Infielder Jason Rogers homered twice and finished with three RBI as the Sky Sox defeated the New Orleans Zephyrs 5-2 Thursday in front of 5,998 fans at Zephyr Field.

In their first game back since the All-Star break, the Sky Sox jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a solo home run by Rogers in the first inning against Zephyrs starter Jose Urena (6-1, 2.04). The lead would grow to 2-0 an inning later on an RBI single by Yadiel Rivera, who finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Rogers would strike again in the fifth inning, swatting a two-run shot against Urena to extend the Sky Sox lead to 4-0. The homers were the fourth and fifth on the season for Rogers with the Sky Sox.

Sky Sox starter Tyler Thornburg (2-5, 5.10) was the beneficiary of Rogers' power outburst, picking up his first win since May 29. Thornburg pitched into the sixth inning, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out six over 5.1 IP.

Relievers Austin Ross, Rob Wooten, Michael Kirkman and Jaye Chapman combined to hold the Zephyrs scoreless over the final 3.2 innings while Chapman recorded the final five outs for his sixth save in seven opportunities with the Sky Sox this season.

The two-homer game by Rogers marked only the fourth time a Sky Sox player has had a two-homer game at Zephyr Field in Metairie against the New Orleans Zephyrs. The others were J.R. Phillips (May 12th, 1999), Andy Tracy (August 25th, 2004) and Matt Macri (August 18th, 2011). Rogers, who's played in 14 games with the Sky Sox this season, has at least one hit in all 14 games and is hitting .382 (21-for-53) with five home runs, 14 runs scored and 14 RBI. He also has a 21-game hitting streak dating back to August 24, 2014.

With the win, the Sky Sox improved to 35-54 while the Zephyrs fell to 42-49 with the loss. The Sky Sox will look to make it three wins in a row tomorrow night as RHP Josh Roenicke (4-7, 5.63) takes the hill against RHP Jared Cosart (0-0, 4.80). First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM MDT (7:00 Central).

Colorado Springs Box Score

Peralta sharp in Shuckers' 3-0 shutout of Lookouts

Wily Peralta tossed 3.2 scoreless in his second minor league rehab Thursday

Biloxi Shuckers

Wily Peralta took the mound for Biloxi on Thursday night at MGM Park (M.K. Krebs)

BILOXI, MS - The Shuckers bounced back on Thursday with a 3-0 shutout over the Chattanooga Lookouts in front of an energetic crowd of 3,547 at MGM Park. Milwaukee Brewers rehabbing right-hander Wily Peralta tossed 3.2 scoreless innings and threw 58 pitches in his second minor league rehab outing, first for Biloxi.

The win puts the Shuckers back at .500, 9-9 in the second half and 18 games over .500 on the season, 53-35. The shutout was the ninth posted this season which is tied for first in the league.

Peralta allowed a hit in his first two innings, but did not allow a Chattanooga Lookout to get any elevation when making contact in the first two frames, inducing three groundouts and striking out two in the early portion of the game. On the night, the 26-year-old picked up five groundouts, two fly outs and three punch outs in his 3.2 innings of work on 58 pitches in his second rehab start. Peralta was facing the Lookouts for the fifth time in his career (Dodgers affiliate at the time), and first since 2011 while with Huntsville.

Biloxi (10-10) scored first for the sixth consecutive game during the fourth inning, taking advantage of four walks from Chattanooga starter Brett Lee (0-4) and an error to plate three runs.

A one-out single by Tyrone Taylor (1x3, R) got the offense going in the frame and back-to-back walks to Michael Reed (1x2, R, 2 BB) and Nick Ramirez (0x3, R, BB) with two outs loaded the bases for Victor Roache (0x3, RBI, BB), who drew a third-consecutive walk to force in the first run of the inning. Brandon Macias's (0x3) hot shot to third was misplayed by Niko Goodrum, allowing Reed to score from third and keep the bases loaded for Parker Bereberet (1x2, RBI, BB), who drew the fourth walk of the inning to bring in the third run, providing the Shuckers a 3-0 advantage.

The Shuckers used a heavy workload from the bullpen on Thursday, needing four arms to come on in relief. Derek Eitel (W, 1-1, 1.1 IP, SO), Brooks Hall (IP, H, SO), Manny Barreda (1.2 IP, H, BB, 3 SO) and Mike Strong (SV, 4, 1.1 IP, BB, 2 SO) pitched the final 5.1 innings, shutting out Chattanooga (5-14) on two hits, two walks and seven strikeouts. Eitel earned his first win as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers on the mound, pitching for the first time as a Shucker at MGM Park. Eitel last pitched on June 6 as a member of the Mobile BayBears. Strong logged his fourth save tossing the final 1.1 innings.

Biloxi will try to pull ahead in the five-game series with Chattanooga in game three on Friday night. Friday's game will feature Post-Game Fireworks! RHP Johnny Hellweg (0-2, 7.20) will make his third start of the season for the Shuckers, while the Lookouts will counter with RHP D.J. Baxendale (3-2, 3.99). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. Fans can also listen to the game using the TuneIn Radio app or by going to http://www.biloxishuckers.com.

Biloxi Box Score

Nice to hear the reports that Peralta looked good tonight. He'll still need a couple of more rehab starts to get stretched out, but the Brewers could have a decision to make with their starting rotation before long. Though either Kyle Lohse or Matt Garza (hopefully both) could go in a trade and free up a spot for Wily.

Outstanding effort from the bullpen, combining to go five and a third innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits and two walks while recording seven strikeouts.

Even though the average has dipped a bit in recent weeks, Michael Reed continues to get on base for the Shuckers. He reached base in three of his four plate appearances tonight, picking up a single and a pair of walks. Orlando Arcia singled and stole a pair of bases.

So, just for fun, here's the July 20th, 2011 box score - what a performance by Wily that night.

Always a hoot to see those four-year-old box score names, too...

Maryvale Box Score

RF Demi Orimoloye homered for the second straight night.

Maryvale bats did not make a fly ball or pop fly out all game.

You'll see tons of two's in 3rd round RHP Nash Walters' line, including two wild pitches.

Joantgel Segovia played CF here, single (of course, no XBH's yet), walk, HBP. Segovia is now only 10-of-24 in SB attempts in his one and a half seasons. Coaches, please hold an intervention. Maybe that's why he can't stretch out any doubles.

Trent Clark (single, walk) shifted to left field for this one.

Manatees Defeat Miracle on Cooper Seventh-Inning Homer

Wang Tosses Gem; Manatees Win, 4-1

Brevard County Manatees

07/16/2015 11:10 PM ET

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/4/4/136982844/cuts/IMG_0045_m08px7bp_3p6s12zk.JPG

Viera, Fla. - Garrett Cooper's clutch home run led the Brevard County Manatees (9-11, 38-51 overall) to a 4-1 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle (12-9, 50-41 overall) on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium.

With the game tied at one in the seventh inning, Cooper stepped to the plate with two on and nobody out. He launched a thee-run home run over the left-center field fence and broke the tie. It was Cooper's fourth home run of the season and gave him 41 RBI.

Brevard County starter Wei-Chung Wang (7-2, 4.15 ERA) was brilliant over seven innings to earn the victory. He surrendered just one run on six hits. Wang walked three and struck out one. Wang is now 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA in his four second-half starts.

The Miracle originally opened the scoring in the first inning. Zack Granite singled up the middle to lead off the game. He then stole second and scored on a Mitch Garver RBI single.

Brevard County tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cooper blooped a broken-bat single to left field. Taylor Brennan then lined a single to right field and advanced Cooper to third. Michael Ratterree bounced into an around-the-horn double play, but Cooper scored and tied the game.

Preston Gainey tossed the final two innings to earn his second save of the season.

Fort Myers starter Ryan Eades (6-2, 3.05 ERA) was hit with the loss. He allowed four runs in 6.1 innings. Eades struck out seven.

The Manatees and Miracle will play game three of the four-game series tomorrow night. RHP Tristan Archer (1-3, 4.54 ERA) will toe the rubber for Brevard County. Fort Myers will send RHP Mat Batts (3-2, 1.71 ERA) to the hill.

Brevard County Box Score

Kind of an odd line for Wei-Chung Wang: 7 IP, 6 H, 1R, 3 BB, 1 K but it was effective tonight. An 11/4 GO/FO definitely helped. Clint Coulter, Garrett Cooper and Taylor Brennan all with 2 hits. Cooper's dramatic Home run was the only extra base hit for the Manatees. Preston Gainey gave up one hit and one walk in his 2 innings of work.

Brewers, Rockies each take one in third consecutive doubleheader

Ryan Collingwood, Helena Independent Record

PHOTO GALLERY: Six excellent images from Gary Marshall, Blackfoot Media Group at the article link

Three rain-forced doubleheaders.

Three splits.

Again, neither the Helena Brewers nor the Grand Junction Rockies, who've now locked up a rare six times in three meetings inside a week's time due to torrential downpours in Colorado last week, could sweep the other Thursday night at Kindrick Legion Field.

The Brewers (12-14), who won the day's first game 4-2, fell a game short of reaching the .500 mark again after dropping the nightcap 6-2 in front of an estimated 1,700 fans.

"We did some good things in the first game, and started out well," Brewers manager Tony Diggs said. "But we just didn't finish it out.

Helena -- a winner in nine of its last 15 games -- put itself in position to get back .500 for the first time since June. It is a mark that hasn't been eclipsed since 2013, and the Brewers had a shot at that even record when Steven Karkenny's RBI single tied the late game at 2-2 in the fifth.

The Rockies (15-12) slammed the door on the Brewers in the sixth, however, after a balk on Brewers reliever Donnie Hissa, who was given the loss, brought in Sam Hilliard to give Grand Junction a 3-2 edge. In the seventh, the Rockies added three runs, sparked by Mylez Jones' RBI single.

"I can tell you right now, with two outs, Hissa would take that set back again," Diggs said.

The Brewers' starting pitcher, Christian Trent, had a solid outing in the loss, though, giving up two runs on four hits in five innings, striking out five. Third baseman Luis Aviles extended his hitting streak to 14 games.

In the first game, Jordan Yamamoto (1-3) earned his first professional win for the Helena club.

Yamamoto, a 12th-round pick in 2014 out of high school in Hawaii, went 5 2/3 innings, giving up just two runs on seven hits while striking out five. Joshua Torres earned his first save, going 1 1/3 innings with giving up a run or hit or walk. His last out of the sixth got the Brewers out of Yamamoto's jam, with two runners on base.

"He played well," Diggs said of Yamamoto. "And he had a lot of good defensive plays behind him."

The Rockies had an edge going into the sixth inning, but after Jose Cuas' single and Milan Post was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Carlos Belonis changed the contest with a single swing.

Belonis took reliever Daniel Kroger's pitch off the center field wall to bring in two runs, giving the Brewers a 3-2 lead. Kroger followed that up with a wild pitch, scoring pinch runner Kevin Martinez from third to make to pad the Brewers' lead.

"I had a couple bad at-bats at first," Belonis said through an interpreter. "Then I really locked in the third time, which ended up being a big at-bat for our team to get the victory."

Torres, who retired all four batters he faced, then shut the door on the Rockies in their final at-bat with a three-up, three-down frame.

Harrison and Cuas each went two 2 for 3 for the Brewers and Troy Stokes went 2 for 4. Harrison extended his hitting streak to six games before it ended in his fourth at-bat.

Both teams conclude the series on Friday with a 7:05 PM (8:05 Central) tilt at Kindrick Legion Field.
