Wed. 7/15: Doubleheader beginning at 4:30 PM (5:30 Central). The Rockies will be the home team for the first game. Both games will be slated for seven innings.

 

Thurs. 7/16: Play as normal with first pitch at 7:05 PM (8:05 Central).

 

Fri. 7/17: Doubleheader beginning at 4:30 PM (5:30 Central). The Rockies will be the home team for the first game. Both games will be slated for seven innings.

 

Now it's been switched, as per Dustin, so that the other doubleheader is on Thursday, and the single game is Friday.

Now obviously these are the tiniest of samples, and these guys are all older than the league norm. But it's pretty cool that none of them blew up in their first few pro outings (can't say that about all the drafted players), and just goes to show there's potential talent beyond the 40 draft rounds.

 

If you don't think it's a big deal for these non-drafted players to get a chance right away in affiliated ball, think again. It's huge, as this excellent article by Baseball America's J.J. Cooper shows how tough it is for these recent college grads to get a job in independent ball.

The Brewers tallied eight runs on thirteen hits to beat the Rangers 8-3. 21-year-old Rodrigo Benoit started and went six innings, giving up three runs, one earned, and striking out six. Deymar Alvarado worked around a pair of walks to record a scoreless seventh inning and Boanerges Nova tossed the final two frames without allowing a hit or a run.

 

Six Brewers hitters had multi-hit games including Ignacio Otano, Nicol Valderrey, Josue Herrera, Dilson Fernandez, Roosevert Chal and Julio Mendez. The 18-year-old Mendez had a walk, a single and a double to go along with a stolen base and two runs scored. Otano had two hits and two stolen bases and Yerison Pena homered for the third time in the last six games and recorded three outfield assists.

BILOXI, MS – For the first time since May 9, the Shuckers lost an extra-inning contest, snapping a streak of eight consecutive victories in such games after a 6-5 loss in 11 innings to the Chattanooga Lookouts on Wednesday night at MGM Park.

 

The Shuckers dropped the opener of the five-game series and seven-game homestand despite a season-high three home runs and tallying 15 hits.

 

In the top of the 11th, Biloxi reliever Damien Magnifico (3-1) walked Niko Goodrum and after a fly out to Adam Brett Walker advanced the runner to second, Orlando Arcia threw out Goodrum at third on a ground ball to short for the second out of the inning. A single by Stuart Turner moved Knecht over to third to put runners on the corners, then a passed ball allowed the go-ahead run to cross for Chattanooga (5-13).

 

The Shuckers plated three runs in the first inning to jump out to a quick lead on Wednesday thanks to a breeze out to left field. It was the fifth time in five games Biloxi opened the scoring.

 

Nathan Orf (1x6, R) singled to start the framce and came in to score on Josh Fellhauer’s (1x5, HR, 2 RBI, R) opposite-field home run to left, putting Biloxi up, 2-0. Two batters later, Nick Ramirez (2x4, HR, RBI, R) connected for his 13th round tripper of the season to give the Shuckers a three-run edge.

 

Biloxi starting pitcher Hobbs Johnson (5 IP, 3 R – 0 ER – 4 H, 4 BB, 2 SO) coasted through the first two innings, facing just one over the minimum on a two-out walk to Marcus Knecht, but ran into trouble in the third. Levi Michael reached on an error on catcher Adam Weisenburger and moved to second on a single by Shannon Williams before coming around to score on a RBI double by Steve Wickens.

 

Travis Harrison walked to load the bases and an error on Taylor Green on a throw home got away from Weisenburger to allow Wilkerson to score to make it a one-run lead for the Shuckers. Harrison scored the tying run on a single by Knecht to left, with Fellhauer throwing out Harrison on the plate to keep the score at three apiece.

 

Chattanooga pulled ahead in the seventh on a solo home run by Levi Michael to left placing the Shuckers down a run, 4-3, but Arcia (2x5, HR, RBI, R) rocketed a blast into the netting in left field to tie the game at four in his first game back since participating in the Futures Game on Sunday. The 20-year-old’s long ball set a team record for most home runs in a game with three.

 

Both teams put up a run in the eighth with Chattanooga using a sacrifice fly to center by Adam Brett Walker, bringing in Niko Goodrum for the one-run advantage. Tyrone Taylor (2x5, RBI) singled into left to bring home pinch runner Nick Shaw (1x1, R) from second for the tying run.

 

Former first round pick for the Twins in 2011, Alex Wimmer started a took a no decision, giving up three runs through five innings. Reliever J.T. Chargois earned his sixth save with a scoreless bottom of the 11th, saving it for fellow reliever Jake Reed (4-3).

 

The Shuckers will look to get back in the win column on Thursday night against the Lookouts. Rehabbing big league RHP Wily Peralta (0-0, --) will take the mound for his second rehab start - first with Biloxi -, while Chattanooga will send out LHP Brett Lee (0-3, 4.67).First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:55 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. Viera, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees (8-11, 37-51 overall) received some timely hitting late in the game en route to a 3-1 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle (12-8, 50-40 overall) on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium.

 

With the game tied at one in the bottom of the eighth, Omar Garcia lined a one-out triple to left-center field against Tyler Jay (0-1, 8.10 ERA). With the infield in, Chris McFarland chopped an RBI single over the short stop's head to give Brevard County a 2-1 lead. After a grounder moved up McFarland to second, Garrett Cooper lined a base hit into center that scored McFarland and gave Brevard County a two-run advantage.

Trevor Seidenberger, who entered the game in the eighth inning with the score tied, allowed a leadoff single to Alex Swim in the ninth. Seidenberger then retired the next three batters in order to seal the victory. Seidenberger (3-1, 1.35) tossed two shutout innings and fanned three batters to earn the victory.

 

Cy Sneed did not factor into the decision, despite tossing seven strong innings. He surrendered one run on five hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out six.

 

Both teams traded runs in the third inning. With runners on the corners and one out, Zack Granite blooped a ball into right field to open the scoring. Tanner Vavra was thrown out at second by right fielder Clint Coulter. Granite was credited with an RBI on the fielder's choice. Brevard County responded in the bottom of the frame. Jose Pena doubled with no outs. Angel Ortega then drilled a single up the middle. Garcia legged out an infield single that scored Pena and tied the game. Miracle starter Chih-Wei Hu was able to escape the jam without any further damage.

 

Hu didn't receive a decision. He allowed one run on seven hits in six innings.

 

The Manatees and Miracle will continue the series tomorrow. LHP Wei-Chung Wang (6-2, 4.38 ERA) will start for Brevard County. Fort Myers will send RHP Ryan Eades (6-1, 2.86 ERA) to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

Coulter held the runner to 3rd on the double and Cy Sneed struck out the next 2 hitters with men on 2nd and 3rd to preserve the tie. Cy Sneed threw low 90's most of the game but was able to dial it up to the mid-90's when he got in trouble. Impressive performance.

Bandits beat Rattlers in ten innings

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers outhit the Quad Cities River Bandits 11-6 on Wednesday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. However, the River Bandits defeated the Timber Rattlers 2-1 in ten innings.

 

The River Bandits scored first. Bobby Boyd singled to start the game. He stole second and third with one out. Alex Bregman grounded out to second to drive in Boyd for a 1-0 lead.

 

The Rattlers tied the game in the third inning. Mitch Meyer singled to start the inning and stole second. A single by Blake Allemand moved Meyer to third. Dustin DeMuth followed with an RBI single to drive in Meyer with the tying run. The hit also extended DeMuth's current hitting streak to eight games.

 

Wisconsin had plenty of chances to take the lead. In the fourth, Alan Sharkey and Elvis Rubio had consecutive singles to put runners on the corners with one out. But, Sharkey was thrown out trying to score on a grounder to first and River Bandits starter Joshua James got the final out of the inning.

 

DeMuth doubled off the first base bag with two outs in the fifth inning to knock James out of the game. Reliever Elieser Hernandez got the final out of the frame to keep the game tied.

 

In the seventh, Brandon Diaz and Allemand had consecutive singles with two outs, but Hernandez got the final out to strand the runners. In the eighth, Sharkey doubled with two outs, but Hernandez escaped again to keep the score tied 1-1.

 

The Rattlers pitchers kept the River Bandits quiet from the first through the ninth. Kodi Medeiros allowed one run on two hits over three innings. Jon Perrin tossed two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Angel Ventura retired twelve of the first thirteen batters he faced in his first four innings of work.

 

Neuhaus singled in the bottom of the ninth to put the winning run on base, but the Rattlers couldn't advance him or pinch runner Gregory Munoz.

 

Ventura retired the first batter he saw in the top of the tenth, but allowed a triple to Sean McMullen on an 0-2 pitch. Ventura jammed Ferguson, but the soft line drive back through the middle of the diamond was just out of Ventura's reach and the ball trickled into centerfield to drive in McMullen with the go-ahead run.

 

Wisconsin went down in order in the bottom of the tenth. It was only the second time in the game the Rattlers were retired 1-2-3.

 

The Timber Rattlers are 0-7 against the River Bandits this season. They are also 1-7 in extra innings and 5-20 in games decided by one run in 2015.

 

Game two of the series is Thursday night. Zach Hirsch (2-4, 3.28) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Quad Cities will send Francis Martes (3-2, 1.14) to the mound. Game time is 7:05pm.

 

The Timber Rattlers will have a special guest to go along with a bobblehead giveaway on Thursday night. Clintonville, Wisconsin native Mike Jirschele is currently the third base coach for the Kansas City Royals. Klein Automotive presents a bobblehead featuring Jirschele from his time as a coach for the Appleton Foxes. Since it is the Major League All-Star Break, Jirschele will also be available for autographs at the ballpark courtesy of Dairy Queen before he heads down to throw out a first pitch.

 

Tomorrow is a 95.9 KISS-FM Thirsty Thursday and that means 16oz soda, beer, and Arty's Old Fashioned drinks are available for just $2.

 

If you can't make it out to the ballpark, there will be several ways to follow the action. Time Warner Cable SportsChannel will televise the game starting at 7:00pm. I've lost track of how many times I've watched Kodi Medeiros pitch now, but I'm still fascinated at how he gets ground balls out of pitches above the thighs. And That postulated that Kodi is on an innings reduction for the rest of the year and that's exactly what is happening. He's a 2-3 inning guy from here on out, it's been brought up in a couple of interviews now. The Bandits have been really tough on Kodi this year, they don't regularly swing at his stuff out of the zone like some of the other teams and really make him work. Lot's of 2-2 and full counts when he's faced them but he limited the damage to 1 run tonight, and it was a fairly questionable run.

 

I'm not sure if I've mentioned it before but Angel Ventura seems to work 90-93 from what I've been able to gather, I still hope to get the gun on him and get an entire outing.

 

Jon Perrin was spotting the outside corner at the knees regularly, he threw 19 of 23 pitches for strikes... just phenomenal.

 

11 hits and 1 run is kind of the story on the offensive side this season, the Rattlers rarely string enough hits together to score as they should. Brandon Diaz (2-5), Blake Allemand (2-5), Dustin DeMuth (2-5,2B), and Alan Sharkey (3-5,2B) had the multi-hit games for the T-Rats.

BILOXI – The Shuckers' run of eight consecutive extra-inning victories came to a close Wednesday night thanks to a handful of mistakes on defense.

 

The Chattanooga Lookouts beat Biloxi, 6-5, in 11 innings with the difference proving to be a flawless effort in the field for the road team. The Shuckers committed two errors and the Lookouts had none.

 

The Shuckers lost despite out-hitting the Lookouts, 15-8. Biloxi stranded 17 runners compared to 10 by Chattanooga.

 

“We weren't able to finish off the pitcher (Alex Wimmers),” Biloxi manager Carlos Subero said. “I thought we could have done a better job. We had 15 hits for five runs and they eight hits for six runs. I thought we were non-productive tonight.”

 

The last time the Shuckers lost an extra-inning game came on May 9 to the Mississippi Braves in Pearl.

 

Every Shucker batter had a hit Tuesday except for catcher Adam Weisenburger, who had his five-game hitting streak end with an 0-for-5 night.

 

The two teams traded runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to tie the contest at 5-5 headed to the ninth before a crowd of 3,299.

 

Orlando Arcia hit his fifth homer of the season for the Shuckers in the seventh on a laser over the left field wall and Biloxi's Tyrone Taylor again tied the game at 5-5 in the eighth on an RBI single.

 

The Lookouts scored the winning run in the top of the 11th when Heiker Meneses took home when Biloxi reliever Damien Magnifico's pitch got away from Weisenburger for a passed ball.

 

Both of Biloxi's errors came in the third inning, leading to the three unearned runs to tie the game at 3-3 with Shuckers starting pitcher Hobbs Johnson on the mound.

 

A one-out RBI double by Steve Wickens cut the Shuckers' lead to 3-1. The man who scored, Levi Michael, reached with one out on a throwing error to first by Weisenburger.

 

Chattanooga scored again when Biloxi third baseman Taylor Green took Kennys Vargas's grounder and threw home to get the runner, but the toss missed its target and Shannon Wilkerson scored to make it 3-2.

 

A two-out single to left by Marcus Knecht scored one more run. It would have been two runs if not for an accurate throw by Josh Fellhauer from left field to gun down Travis Harrison at home.

 

Fellhauer and Nick Ramirez both hit first-inning home runs to give the Shuckers a 3-0 lead. Both of the left-handed hitters went opposite field with their homers, starting with Fellhauer's two-run blast.

 

The three homers by the Shuckers Wednesday night was a season high. Fellhauer has two homers this season and Ramirez has 13. Arcia has hit five.

 

The lone homer for the Lookouts came off the bat of Michael, who gave the Lookouts a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh by clearing the left field scoreboard for a solo homer, his fourth of the season.

 

Shuckers starting pitcher Hobbs Johnson lasted five innings, giving up three runs – none earned – on four hits. He struck out two and walked four.

 

Johnson continues to have issues with his control, walking 23 batters in the last 24 innings.

 

“Hopefully he'll get a long rest here,” Subero said. “When he comes back, hopefully he gets out of it and starts pitching like he can.”

 

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Wily Peralta will be the starting pitcher for the Shuckers at 7:10 p.m. Thursday in game two of the series with the Chattanooga Lookouts.

 

Peralta is trying to make his way back to the majors after a strained oblique put him on the Brewers' disabled list in May. He was 1-4 with a 4.00 ERA with Milwaukee at the time of his injury.

 

Left-hander Brett Lee (0-3, 4.67) will be the starting pitcher for Chattanooga Thursday.

While Tucker Neuhaus is 0-for-2 on the basepaths this season, Gregory Munoz is now frustratingly only 11-for-22.

 

Maybe it's a matter of the other players on the squad (Sthervin Matos, Dustin Demuth), but Neuhaus as a second baseman has me puzzled. I know our Link Reporter TheCrew07 has seen much more Timber Rattler action than I have and indicated Neuhaus profiled better defensively at second base, but Neuhaus is 6'3", has no apparent baserunning speed - that doesn't scream future middle infielder to me. The 20-year-old was excited about the third base opportunity in early season feature articles.

 

I'm convinced this organization is just flummoxed when it comes to developing players at the hot corner, from top to bottom.
