If Parra gets traded to ___ and CGomez gets traded to ___ then...

If Parra gets traded to say SF for a top 4 pitcher in their organization and CGomez gets traded to TOR for a C, P, and another piece then what does MKE do for a CF this year and maybe next? If no other offers are suitable (like no real gains for flipping Lucroy after you have another C), what do you do?

TTaylor?

LSchafer (even though he would not deserve it, and I don't think CC is happy with him)?

Herrera?

I ask you, how much do you mortgage if the hot deals come and you have more than one offer that you can't refuse? I think if you make one deal that is awesome, then you have to consider two...but what are the in house options?

Pretty sure Schafer takes over right away. Whether or not that changes towards September I don't know. There really aren't any other MLB ready options. They won't rush someone to fill a spot on a team going no where.

Probably Schafer in center, though it might be an opportunity to see if one or more of Segura, Sardinas, or Rivera could play center.

Ron Roenicke is no longer the manager. Also throwing average bats(if that) in center to hope they stick doesn't seem like the best use of time. They all lack quite a bit with the bat and would need to have some pretty nice defense to be worth a lick in CF...if that was the case I think we would know that by now.

I just don't think it would be good for their developement. I'd like to see if they can hit and making them devote a lot of time attempting to play CF may give false readings.

Schaefer would almost certainly finish out the year there. Wren probably gets some CF time in September. I really hope neither of them is the full time CF in 2016. I know the team is going to be terrible anyway but I would prefer they sign a Colby Rasmus type guy - a veteran who can't get a multiyear deal and is just trying to showcase himself for a multiyear deal next offseason - as the starter.

John Briggs, I disagree that the Brewers should look for major league talent in return, if that is in fact what you are saying. I'd like to see them get 3-4 minor leaguers with potential than some OK place holder for Gomez. Taking on a major leaguer limits a rebuild since by the time the talent cycles through, that player is too expensive or gone via FA. If the Crew is gonna rebuild, then rebuild. If they're gonna shoot for 70-80 wins, whats the point? Gomez's value is only going to go down from here. There is the injury factor, less control for the acquiring team and Carlos could turn back into bonehead Carlos. Get what you can at the peak. I will miss him but hes gotta go. For my money, hes the most fun to watch out of everyone on the roster.

I'm not looking forward to the next few years of getting knocked around anymore than you but think how exciting it would be to bring up another batch of players all at once like Prince, Weeks, Hardy, Braun and Hart. Those were exciting times for me and its much better than being 20 games out at the end of spring training in my opinion.

Why do we want 3 years of a backup OF? We have plenty of those already in house. That's going out and acquiring a closer for a team who's 20 games out of 1st place, it's filling out the roster backwards and rather pointless.

Schafer will probably get his last chance to prove himself as anything more than a AAAA/ 4th OF for his defense. Tyrone Taylor isn't close to ready. Wren is off to a bad start in AAA as he did in AA but money is he'll turn it back on. I much rather see him up by August/September to showcase himself a bit. I don't think Reed not being called up to play CF doesn't mean they don't think he can. He has always just had better CFers defensively next to him. He is prob behind Wren on call-up list. Herrera long term in CF would be a disaster. He is a utility guy who can fill in here or there at CF, not an every day option

Because in this day of parity, it doesn't take much for a 75 win team on paper to overachieve and make things interesting for fans who are paying major league prices to attend games and because bringing up talents like Arcia to a team surrounded by scrubs is risky. They have young, talented controllable starters on the roster now. The next few years don't have to be bleak as they are building. Cardinals never rebuild.

Remember I speak as a 62 year old. Baseball fans skew older. For many older fans, baseball is a big deal and the game is important regardless of the standings. I personally don't want seeing Bob Uecker in his waning years have to describe the 2012 Cubs for the next half dozen years. When you guys get to my age, and you love the game, you'll realize that every season is precious and you don't throw any away. Sure all could work out as you guys imagine or they could turn into the Pirates who despite drafting high year after year were doormats for well over a decade.

What did bringing up a batch of young players at one time get them? Two playoff appearances. That's it. Oakland had more than that in the same time and never had a group of "can't miss guys" all at once. Guess what? A lot of "can't miss guys" miss. Rickie Weeks was never a star.

Gomez is player that can bring you back both a currently serviceable but inexpensive major leaguer and a very attractive prospect. In looking at what the Jays have to offer one piece they have that's expendable is their current CF, who's relatively young, controllable and a pretty good player. A star? No. But removing Gomez from this roster does not leave this team without stars.
