Garza to DL, right shoulder tendinitis; Knebel recalled

The Brewers definitely earned it, but it was also absolutely aided by an epic collapse by the Mets. There's no denying that.

The reason STL was even in the playoffs during their WS winning years of 2006 (83 wins) and 2011 was because of epic collapses (ATL in 2011) and mass mediocrity (2006). ATL lost 9 of their last 12 games in 2011. Hell, STL almost had one of the most epic collapses in the history of the game in 2006 - they were 7 games up on 9/20 and eight days later were only 0.5 games up.

The Brewers aren't the only team to benefit from poor finishes by other teams.

That's why I said "the Brewers definitely earned it *But*.......

The Brewers still had to win their games. But without the benefit of an epic collapse by the Mets, we don't even sniff the playoffs. Sometimes you just have to be good. Sometimes you have to be lucky and good.

To be fair, the Brewers epically collapsed first. They had a 5.5 game lead in the wildcard on September 1st (over the Phillies actually, the Mets were leading the NL East at the time). So really, if both teams play to expectations, the Brewers cruise to the wildcard with an outside chance at winning the division.

Half the battle is being good...the other half is being lucky. Hitting your stride at the right time, avoiding injuries, or an epic collapse to let you pass a team. If it was about being good the best team would always win...yet they almost never do.
