Viera, Fla. - Victor Arano turned in a masterful performance as the Clearwater Threshers (9-3, 46-36) defeated the Brevard County Manatees (4-7, 33-46) 3-0 in a rain-shortened, seven-inning contest at Space Coast Stadium on Monday night.

Arano (3-7, 4.44 ERA) allowed just three hits and tossed seven shutout innings to earn the victory. He walked one and struck out three. He, unofficially, threw 72 pitched and 56 strikes.

Clearwater scored three runs in the top of the second inning against Brevard County starter Eric Marzec. With two outs Marzec hit Willians Astudillo with a pitch. Carlos Tocci then singled to right field to put runners on the corners with two outs. Mitchell Walding stepped to the plate and lined a two-run double down the first base line. The next batter, Chase Harris, laced an RBI triple to right field and gave the Threshers a three-run advantage.

The lone Brevard County threat came in the bottom of the third. Jose Pena started the inning with a single to left field. Two batters later, Angel Ortega singled through the left side. Chris McFarland struck out, but a passed ball on the third strike advanced Pena and Ortega. Michael Ratterree popped out to second to end the threat.

Marzec (1-7, 4.72 ERA) took the loss. He allowed three runs on five hits over seven innings. He walked two and fanned four. He retired seven in a row after the Harris triple.

Before the start of the eighth inning, heavy rain forced the tarp to come onto the field. The game was never resumed.

Brevard County will head to Tampa on Tuesday to start a three-game series and a seven-game road trip. First pitch at George M. Steinbrenner Field is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Javi Salas (7-4, 2.84 ERA) will start for the Manatees. Tampa will send LHP Jordan Montgomery (5-6, 2.95 ERA) to the hill.

Final: Biloxi 1, Montgomery 5

Wagner's 10th quality start not enough in loss to Biscuits Monday

Biscuits take a 2-1 series edge after a 5-1 win

Biloxi Shuckers

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/0/3/8/135160038/cuts/shuckersfull_33_qej1hyba_qf7y4kt8.jpg

Tyler Wagner allowed four runs, two earned over 6.1 innings on Monday night (Jason Clark)

MONTGOMERY, AL - Hyped as a great pitching matchup, Southern League All-Stars' Tyler Wagner and Blake Snell didn't disappoint, but Wagner, despite his 10th quality start and tying a season-high with seven strikeouts fell short in the 5-1 loss at Riverwalk Stadium. The loss on Monday positions the Shuckers on the brink of dropping a series for the first time in their last 10, since losing three of five to the Jackson Generals May 11-15. Montgomery leads the five-game series 2-1.

Montgomery (6-4) struck first in the bottom of the first with two unearned runs against Wagner. Tyler Goeddel reached on an error by third baseman Brandon Macias (12, BB) with one out. Cameron Seitzer followed with a single and Johnny Field, Jr. reached on a fielder's choice before Justin O'Conner brought in the first run of the game with a double. Wagner balked home Field to put the Shuckers in a 2-0 hole after the first inning.

Biloxi (6-5) got on the board in the fourth with an RBI triple from Orlando Arcia (1x3, RBI, 3B) to score Nathan Orf (2x4, R) from first to put the Shuckers down a run. A walk to Michael Reed (0x2, 2 BB) put runners on the corners, but back-to-back strikeouts to Nick Ramirez (0x3, BB) and Victor Roache (0x4) ended the threat. Arcia took the team-lead with his fifth triple and 31st extra-base hit of the season. Arcia also leads the league with 95 hits.

Wagner (6-3) coasted through the sixth, retiring 14 of 15 batters after the first, but the Biscuits broke the game open with a three-run seventh to make it 5-1. Three consecutive one-out singles led to the first run to cross for Montgomery, leading to Wagner being removed for Jed Bradley (1.2 IP, R, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 SO). The Shuckers' starter tied a season high with seven strikeouts, and allowed four runs - two earned - on six hits and a walk. Bradley allowed another single and issued a walk before a hot-shot by Goeddel got by Orf at second, allowing two runs to score.

Snell (6-2), the All-Star Game starter for the North Division worked five innings and picked up the win, striking out six and walking two in the outing.

Biloxi will try to force a rubber match with a win on Tuesday night against the Biscuits. RHP Johnny Hellweg (0-0, --) will make his first start for the Shuckers, while the Biscuits will send out RHP Ryne Stanek (3-2, 3.82). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. Fans can also listen to the game using the TuneIn Radio app or by going to http://www.biloxishuckers.com.

Biloxi Box Score

Tyler Wagner wasn't lights out, but he still pitched fairly well. The first inning included a bloop hit, an error on Brandon Macias and a balk that was questionable at best. Granted, the video for these games isn't great, but I didn't see anything and Chris made a similar comment on the broadcast. Seven strikeouts versus just one walk is always good to see as well.

Nathan Orf had half of Biloxi's hits, going 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot. Orlando Arcia reached base twice with a walk and a triple and Macias picked up the other Biloxi base hit. Michael Reed drew a pair of walks and stole his 23rd base of the year. Josh Fellhauer recorded not one, but two outfield assists.

Biloxi Game Log

Tyler Wagner racked up seven strikeouts, including striking out the side in the fifth

Montgomery Bottom of the 5th

Leonardo Reginatto called out on strikes.

Thomas Coyle strikes out on a foul tip.

Juniel Querecuto singles on a soft line drive to right fielder Michael Reed.

Dayron Varona strikes out swinging.

Rattlers win third straight with a walkoff in extra innings

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers ended the ten-game winning streak of the Kane County Cougars with a 5-4 win in eleven innings at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Alan Sharkey homered, drove in three runs and scored on the game-winning infield single by Tucker Neuhaus to give the Rattlers their third straight win.

Kane County (46-34 overall, 10-2 second half) took the lead in the top of the third inning. Victor Reyes doubled to start the frame. Chuck Taylor doubled off the wall in left with one out to drive in Reyes for a 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin (28-54, 5-7) tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. Sthervin Matos lined a solo homer of the wall in center with two outs and evened the game 1-1. Greg McCall followed with a single and Tucker Neuhaus doubled to put runners on second and third, but Nick Baker got a strikeout to end the Rattlers rally.

The Cougars would go back in front in the top of the sixth. Rattlers starting pitcher Zach Hirsch hit Cody Regis to start the inning. Regis moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and took third on a sharp single to left by Michael Perez. Wisconsin would go to the bullpen and call Zach Cooper in to face Joe Munoz.

Cooper got Munoz to send a grounder in the hole at short, but the ball was misplayed. Regis scored on the play and Perez took third. Pinch-hitter Henry Bonilla was at the plate when Munoz took off for second and drew a throw. Perez broke for the plate and beat the return throw to give the Cougars a 3-1 lead.

Kane County went up 4-1 when another grounder to short was misplayed to let Munoz score.

Khris Davis, playing in his final game on a rehabilitation assignment from the Milwaukee Brewers, drew a walk from reliever Cody Geyer in a sudden rainstorm with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. The game was halted after Davis reached first base to allow the tarp to be placed on the field. The delay lasted for 28 minutes.

When the game resumed, Geyer lost the strike zone. Dustin DeMuth walked on four pitches. Elvis Rubio drew a walk to load the bases. Sharkey walked on a 3-1 pitch from Geyer to force in pinch-runner Gregory Munoz, who took over for Davis on the base paths after the delay.

Sharkey brought the Rattlers back to even in the bottom of the eighth inning against Jose Martinez. Rubio drew a walk with one out and Sharkey had a 3-1 count again. The Rattlers first baseman lined this 3-1 pitch down the line in right and the ball stayed fair as it cleared the wall for a game-tying, two run home run. The homer, Sharkey's second of the season, was his first at home.

Kodi Medeiros, who came on in relief in the top of the eighth inning, kept the Cougars off the scoreboard, allowed one hit, and struck out three over three innings.

Luke Curtis tossed a 1-2-3 top of the eleventh and the Rattlers offense went to work in the bottom of the inning. Once again, it was Sharkey in the thick of the action.

Sharkey drew a leadoff walk against Luis Ramirez. Sthervin Matos reached on an infield single and Greg McCall walked to load the bases.

Neuhaus was next and he sent a slow roller up the first base line. Ramirez fielded the ball near the line and made a back-handed flip to the plate. The ball popped away from Perez at the plate and Sharkey scored the winning run to give Wisconsin its first walkoff win of the season.

The teams wrap up Fox Cities portion of their series on Tuesday afternoon. Devin Williams (2-4, 2.92) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Kane County has pushed Wei-Chieh Huang (3-1, 1.51) back from Monday to Tuesday. Game time is 12:05pm.

MPH for all pitchers while I was at the game previously posted. I took the college kid I've been working with and after watching Kodi Medeiros pitch all he talked about the rest of the night was "I've never seen a FB move like that"... so yea, his movement is even more impressive sitting behind home plate.

Have I mentioned that Alan Sharkey is a pretty good 1B? If not I've done him a disservice because I've been meaning to discuss it. Kane County tried to challenge Dustin DeMuth but he made all of the plays, however Blake Allemand booted 2 rather routine balls at SS.

It's too bad Sthervin Matos (3-5,HR) hasn't been able to find consistency because his tools are pretty good, his routes in the OF need some work though. Tucker Neuhaus (3-5,2B) had been in the midst of a horrible slump but had a slump busting game out of the 9 spot in the order.
