Gallardo and Estrada

adambr2

Gallardo has a 2.72 ERA in the AL and Estrada has a 3.58 ERA and has flirted with no-hitters on a couple different occasions. Both have very low WHIP's of 1.15.

With that in mind and horrible years by basically our entire rotation, it's tough to imagine Kranitz sticking around after this season.

I doubt Kranitz had anything to do with their performance in Milwaukee. Perhaps ironically, last year I spent a good amount of posts stating that Gallardo and Estrada were basically the same player based on thier numbers yet they were viewed drastically differently. Either way I hope the entire coaching staff is cleaned out this offseason.

Both basically have identicle stats from before except each is giving up a lot less hits. Maybe that is luck...Maybe a change of scenary...Maybe the catcher...Maybe the pitching coach?

Interesting none the less. I'd look into their advanced stats if it wasn't late...Maybe that would show a reasoning?

Lind was a good get for Estrada. Wasn't particularly impressed by the return they got for Gallardo and thought they didn't coach him well.

Gallardo and Estrada are both now playing on teams that are in the top have of baseball defensively. No more Weeks and Fielder in the field.

I would guess that makes a huge difference. Just for a quick comparison:

Gallardo:

Career ERA: 3.63

2015 ERA: 2.72

Career FIP: 3.69

2015 FIP: 3.45

Estrada:

Career ERA: 4.15

2015 ERA: 3.58

Career FIP: 4.13

2015 FIP: 4.26

Basically both are putting up their career FIP but their regular ERA's are well under their career numbers. Luck and defense is what I'm getting from that.

So, our defense sucks, and pretty much has since Melvin got here.

Another reason to show him the door.

It is a small sample with Gallardo & Estrada, but I believe that the Brewers organization as a whole is less than ideal (to say the least) at developing & coaching pitchers

Estrada had periods of brilliance followed by periods of crappiness due to his propensity to give up the home run ball. He could easily fall back to earth very soon.

Gallardo's K/9 is all the way down to 6.35 this season. Good luck sustaining the ERA...

(Happy he is doing well though!)

You're right about the sub 3 ERA. He's a different pitcher now though. It's interesting that Texas is asking him to throw a lot more sliders than he did in Milwaukee. He's on pace to throw more than 1000 when his previous career high was 791. They might be treating him like a rent a pitcher and wear his arm out.
