Pitcher Tyler Cravy and pitching coach Fred Dabney will represent the Sky Sox at the 2015 Triple-A All-Star Game on July 15.

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox and the Pacific Coast League have announced that Sky Sox starting pitcher Tyler Cravy has been named to the PCL All-Star Team. He joins pitching coach Fred Dabney as the Sky Sox representatives at the First National Bank 2015 Triple-A All-Star Game which will be played at Werner Park in Omaha, NE, home of the Storm Chasers, on Wednesday, July 15 starting at 6:05 PM MDT (7:05 Central). The game will be broadcast live on MLB Network.

Cravy, 25, is 7-5 with a 3.79 ERA (33 ER/78.1 IP) and 66 strikeouts in 14 starts so far with the Sky Sox this season. He leads the team and is tied for second in the PCL with seven wins and leads all Sky Sox pitchers in strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a .241 average.

He had a string of five wins in five consecutive starts from May 15-June 13 that saw him post an ERA of 1.42 (5 ER/31.2 IP).That stretch included a win against the Las Vegas 51s on May 27 that saw him allow a run on five hits over a career-high 8.0 inning pitched. In a win against the Memphis Redbirds on May 5, he allowed a run on three hits over 6.0 innings while also going 1-for-3 at the plate with a solo home run, the first long ball of his professional career.

Cravy made his Major League debut with the Milwaukee Brewers on June 2 against the St. Louis Cardinals, allowing just one run on four hits over 7.0 innings pitched in a 1-0 loss.

Originally drafted by the Brewers in the 17th round of the June 2009 First-Year Player Draft, Cravy entered the 2015 season rated as the No. 24 Prospect in the Brewers organization by Baseball America. He attended Napa Valley College and in 2009 was named the Bay Valley Conference Most Valuable Player after going 8-3 with a 2.99 ERA (30 ER/ 90.1 IP) and 110 strikeouts.

Cravy was the starting pitcher for the North Division at the 2014 Southern League All-Star game after going 8-1 with a 1.72 ERA (14 ER/73.1 IP) and holding opposing batters to a .184 average in 14 games (12 starts) with the Double-A Huntsville Stars. He was promoted to Triple-A Nashville following the All-Star game but suffered a strained oblique muscle in his first start with the team which limited him to just two rehab starts the rest of the season.

Iskenderian Ready to Step in For Brewers Following Promotions

By Jake Jones, KFBB Sports Reporter

HELENA - It's been six days since George Iskenderian signed with the Milwaukee Brewers and was assigned to Helena, which is a bit change from the University of Miami.

"I kind of had an idea," said Iskenderian. "I wasn't sure, but I had an idea I was coming here."

Iskenderian was a 7th round pick for Milwaukee and a key member of the Hurricanes baseball team, which recently played in the College World Series. So let's just say he's not afraid of the big stage.

"Playing in front of that many fans helps a lot," said Iskenderian. "You can talk about it all you want, but once you experience it it's completely different. There's 25,000 people in the stands, and you can just eliminate everything besides the game."

"You've already had to deal with pressure," said Helena Brewers manager Tony Diggs. "And that's the biggest thing about this game. If you can deal with pressure and you can keep an even keel, then you're able to do that on a daily basis."

Playing in the World Series caused Iskenderian to sign with Milwaukee late, but he's become an immediate starter at second base with the promotion of Blake Allemand.

"Just enjoy it as much as I can, learn as much as I can," said Iskenderian. "Obviously we have a great coaching staff with big league experience. So I'm just nitpicking and learning from everyone, and trying to get better every day."

"I'm not looking for him to bring something different, I'm looking for him to enhance what we've already started," said Diggs. "We've been doing a lot of things solidly. What he brings to the table is that extra advantage that we can continue that and make sure that continues on."

With yesterdays promotions of RHP Cody Ponce and Allemand, the Brewers have proven they're willing to promote their players quickly. So even with his late arrival, Iskenderian's experience in college should help his transition, and hopefully help him move up quickly.

DSL Brewers Box Score

Nice win for the Brewers who trailed 3-1 heading to the bottom of the ninth. As is often the case in these games, a Marlins error helped the Brewers rally efforts, and Julio Mendez came through with a single to center to knock in the tying and winning runs.

Right fielder Anderson Jesus singled and was hit by a pitch, Yerison Pena singled, walked and stole a pair of bases and Ariel Estades and Adolfo Morillo each contributed a pinch-hit single.

21-year-old Dominican Rodrigo Benoit turned in his second straight quality start, going six and two-thirds allowing just one earned run. He struck out seven and only walked one. Jesus Brea pitched a scoreless ninth and picked up the win. The 6'3" 19-year-old has yet to give up an earned run in any of his eight outings this season.

Surprising roster note -- still only two catchers, you'd think a 3rd body would help catch the side sessions with 15 active pitchers, even after Ponce's bump up.

Bingo!

40th round Fordham catcher Charles Galiano, who you had learned about in prior posts here and here, will be making his pro debut in Helena, where he has been assigned.

AZL Brewers on the wrong side of a perfect game with two out in the 9th inning...

BUT manage two hits (thank you Daniel Leonardo and Joantgel Segovia)! The two pitchers they faced tonight, rehabbing Zach Lee (23 years old) and Jairo Heredia (25 years old), have been in pro ball for a combined 14 years, so not exactly your typical AZL level hurlers.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

BILOXI, MS – In what’s becoming commonplace at MGM Park, the Biloxi Shuckers walked-off for the third-straight time at home with a 2-1, 10-inning victory, in front of 4,123 fans on Wednesday night. Josh Fellhauer provided a pinch-hit RBI single that scored Nick Shaw, giving Biloxi a 2-1 victory. The win provided the Shuckers their sixth walk-off of the season and fourth in 10 games at MGM Park. The win also puts Biloxi a game in front of three teams in the Southern League South Division in the early stages of the second half. The Shuckers have won five-straight against their Magnolia State rival, M-Braves and lead the season-series 7-4.

Shaw (2x4, R) led off the 10th with a single to right-center field and moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt by Adam Weisenburger (1x3). Fellhauer (1x1, RBI) came on to pinch-hit for relief pitcher Mike Strong (3-0), and served the game-winning hit into the gap in right-center to plate Shaw for the Shuckers’ third-consecutive walk-off victory at MGM Park.

Biloxi (4-2) jumped on the board early in the first inning with a RBI single off the bat of Orlando Arcia (2x4, RBI) to bring in Nathan Orf (2x4, R, 2 2B), the 20-year-old’s 40th run driven in on the season.

Mississippi (3-3) had a hit in every inning except for the first, but finally broke through in the sixth on Matt Lipka’s first home run of the season, a two-out solo shot to left to tie the game at one apiece. The M-Braves’ hadn’t homered in 21 games and it was only the clubs 13th on the season.

Shuckers’ starter Tyler Wagner worked a season-high eight innings and struck out three without issuing a walk on Wednesday night. The Las Vergas native benefitted from clutch defense behind him as the Shuckers turned a season-high four double plays to keep the Braves at bay. It was Wagner’s team-leading ninth quality start in 13 outings and 31st overall by the staff. M-Braves starter Greg Ross took a no decision, allowing just one run over seven innings and reliever Francisco Rondon (2-2) was saddled with the loss.

Biloxi will seek out its ninth-straight series victory on Thursday night against Mississippi. Thursday’s have not been kind to the Shuckers, as the team is 3-10 in those contests. RHP Jorge Lopez (6-2, 2.80) comes in red-hot as Biloxi has won the 22-year-old’s last six starts, and 10 of his 13 on the season. The Braves will counter with RHP Victor Mateo (4-4, 2.49). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., with coverage beginning at 6:55 a.m. on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. Fans can also listen to the game using the TuneIn Radio app or by going to http://www.biloxishuckers.com.

Biloxi Box Score

Tyler Wagner's fine season continued as he went eight innings and gave up only one run on 109 pitches, but he received a no-decision. Lefty Mike Strong tossed another two solid innings of relief and was rewarded with the win.

Orlando Arcia, Nick Ramirez, Nathan Orf and Nick Shaw each finished the game with two hits for the Shuckers. Both of Orf's hits went for doubles and Ramirez added a two-bagger as well.

Cedar Rapids scores in ninth to beat Wisconsin

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Brandon Diaz had a pair of doubles, a walk, and an RBI for the Rattlers on Wednesday night. (Wisconsin Timber Rattlers/Ann Mollica)

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers rallied with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie their game with the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Wednesday night. But, Rafael Valera hit a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth and the Kernels beat the Rattlers 3-2.

Max Murphy gave Cedar Rapids (45-32 overall, 4-3 second half) the early lead. He tripled with one out in the top of the second inning to drive in Alex Real from second base. Murphy has thirteen RBI in eleven games against Wisconsin this season. He has a total of 28 RBI in 65 games this season.

Rattlers starting pitcher Zach Hirsch eleven of the next twelve batters he faced. In the top of the sixth, Edgar Corcino reached on an error to start the inning. He moved to second on a wild pitch and - after a Hirsch strikeout - took third on a grounder. Real got Corcino home with a single and the unearned run gave the Kernels a 2-0 lead.

Cedar Rapids starting pitcher Felix Jorge allowed four hits over six scoreless innings despite allowing the leadoff man to reach in the first three innings. Two of those three leadoff hits were doubles.

Michael Theofanopoulos entered the game for the Kernels in the bottom of the seventh and retired the Rattlers (22-52, 2-5) in order. But, it was a different story in the bottom of the eighth.

Greg McCall singled to start the Wisconsin eighth and Alan Sharkey drew a walk with one out. Brandon Diaz lined a double to left on a 3-1 pitch and McCall scored. The ball was misplayed in left and that allowed Sharkey to score the tying run.

Khris Davis, who is with Wisconsin on a rehabilitation assignment from the Milwaukee Brewers, was the next batter for the Rattlers. However, the Kernels elected to walk Davis intentionally. Theofanopoulos got out of the inning by retiring the next batter on a ground out.

Davis went 0-for-3 with a walk in the game. He is scheduled to appear in four more games for the Timber Rattlers on his rehabilitation assignment.

Gian Rizzo gave the Rattlers a chance to get back into the game with a perfect seventh and a perfect eighth.

In the top of the ninth, Scott Lieser allowed a leadoff single to Real, the third hit of the night for Real. Tanner English came on to pinch run for Real and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Lieser got the second out on a popout, but Valera lined a single to left and English scored the go-ahead run.

Trevor Hildenberger retired the Rattlers in order in the bottom of the ninth for his ninth save of the season.

The Kernels are 11-1 against the Timber Rattlers this season, including 9-0 against Wisconsin at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

The Timber Rattlers begin a short two-game road trip with a game against the Beloit Snappers on Thursday night. Devin Williams (2-4, 3.12) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Brett Graves (6-3, 4.89) is scheduled to start for the Snappers. Game time is 7:00pm.

Catch the radio broadcast is on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:40. The broadcast may also be heard on Tune In Radio and IHeartRadio.

Rattler Radio Postgame Post – July 1, 2015

Am I the only one who doesn't like rehab assignments? Half the interview questions end up being about the big league player which is just of no interest to me. I want nuggets of wisdom, not drivel about the rehab timeline.

Wisconsin Boxscore

So I was home for literally 15 minutes today, and of course in that 15 minutes between work and family commitments I completely forgot to set the DVR even though I was positive I did, so when I got home 45 minutes ago I was surprised to find I have nothing more to offer regarding Blake Allemand's debut than his 0-4 effort and short discussion in Matt Erickson's post game interview linked above in the Rattler Radio section.

Brandon Diaz is

! He's pushed his last 10 up to .433 now, and his BA all the way to .230, which considering where it was is awfully impressive. Dustin DeMuth (2-4,2B) had the other multi-hit game and while he's been fairly consistent, he's been putting up lots of 1-4 type games mixed with the occasional 0-fer so his last 10 was surprisingly only .231.

Zach Hirsch continued the recent trend of starting pitching doing very well only to be sabotaged by the BP and lack of offense in the end. If this club ever puts it together they could be quite a bit of fun in the 2nd half.

... and yes, everyone needs a little Sterling Archer, "Danger Zone!" in their life!
