Is Jorge Lopez a top 100 prospect in all of MILB?

Matt Eddy: Sure, comparing and contrasting Jorge Lopez and Jose Berrios was a major focal point for me because they’re the top two righthanders in the SL. Every source indicated that Lopez has a higher ceiling because of a stronger breaking ball, more prototypical starter build and a tick better velocity. They’re both going to be qualify major league starting pitchers, and Berrios does offer a few other advantages, such as an outstanding changeup and incredible mound presence (both accurate).

Holy smokes........

Jorge may be the top pitcher we have developed since Yo if he continues his rapid rise. How much better he gets every season is unreal!

I think Brent Suter and Jorge Ortega may dispute that assessment. They've just produced this year.

Yeah.......Ben Hendrickson may also dispute that (well he's older than Yo). Suters ceiling is about as high as his floor. He's always been old for his level,he's a smart command guy. Dime a dozen. Jorge Ortega needs to develop at least a tiny bit of ability to miss a bat. At this point I'm not sure he could strike out a Middle School hitter. He's a bulldog with pin point command but you need more than that to get Big League hitters out game after game. He played in FSL, it's a pitchers heaven. Top hitter had what? A .750 OPS? I hope he can take a big step next year but as of now neither remotely even hold Lopez or Haders jock strap. Those are frontline, possible Aces type guys. Lucky to get Fiers & Estrada out of Suter & Ortega

Sure, Suter will never be a number 1 or a potential ace like Lopez but I wouldn't undersell him either. He may not look like him but reminds me of a left hand Zach Davies. He knows how to pitch and goes after batters. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he started for the Brewers at some point in 2016.

Going to be tough for him with Lopez, Hader, Wagner, Houser all right there, then still got Pena who can start, Cravy who could start, and Thornburg who could start. I said he could be a Mike Fiers which is not bad at his highest ceiling. However there has been Sheets, Yovani, and hopefully Lopez or Nelson, Peralta, Jungman as that next All Star Brewer pitcher Ace. Not under selling just really do not see Suter ever being in the conversation. In 10 years from now I will never look back and say man Surer was fun to watch! Man I hope this prospect could be as good as Suter! There is a reason no national and nearly no local sites talk about him or rank him. Just a guy who can be efficient in the back end. Like I said that's okay but let's not get carried away that we are looking at our future Ace

Taylor Jungmann's ERA in Colorado Springs this year was 6.37 before he was called up, and his WHIP was 1.51. He's a part of the conversation as a mainstay of the rotation next year.

Suter's ERA in a small sample size was 3.31. Look at the WHIP. 1.16 in Colorado Springs. He's probably more of the crafty-type of pitcher (think Greg Maddux or Jamie Moyer) instead of a pitcher who relies on his "stuff" (Randy Johnson or Nolan Ryan). Something's working for Suter. It's not showing up in the radar gun, but the numbers he's posting speak volumes.

The same has to be said for Jorge Ortega. This year, he has just been dominating. 6 CGs, 2 shutouts (leading the system). This is at least a step beyond the normal FSL "tilt" towards pitching.

Now that Jorge Lopez has made his second consecutive top 100 prospect list this week, Baseball Prospectus (#71) and MLB.com Pipeline (#57), I think a shout-out is in order to molitor fan who started this "Lopez for top 100 prospect" train when his top prospect bandwagon was still small. Glad to see it come to fruition!
Not just “at Night” anymore.
