Wei-Chung Wang

I really don't understand claiming guys that aren't going to help. Do they think it's an upgrade? It's not.

He's 25 and was once considered a top prospect. Hard to believe there is zero possibility he ever figures it out.... Some guys are just late bloomers, look no further than Gomez who many people screamed to toss away before he clicked. What's the problem with taking a chance, 25 is not a career over age....

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

FORMERLY BrewCrewWS2008 and YoungGeezy don't even remember other names used

I don't have a problem acquiring Dominguez as future corner utility guy (3B,1B), though I doubt he'll ever hit enough and outside of 1 season hasn't tapped into his power... The reviews on his swing have never been good.

I also laughed when I got the Team Stream notification, I see no good reason to risk losing Wang to pick up a Ramirez placeholder, and I'll be doubly pissed if we trade Ramirez for more back of the rotation fodder. None of those moves would be moving the organization forward in any capacity.

Hopefully Wang sneaks through waivers, I really wish I would have been able to see him pitch some this year to see what's different. If we lose him then we're back to Kirby and Medeiros for mid rotation or better lefties.

Interesting note from Tom Haudricourt --

It will be interesting to see if a team claims Wang. He has minor league options remaining but also is making a lot of money for a Class A player -- about $300,000 because rules do not allow more than a 20% cut from his major-league salary of 2014.

Well to be fair those of us who were initially confused didn't understand how much he was making, I was aware of the rule for MLB players but I didn't realize it applied to players sent back down to the minors as well. That was news to me and I've been following this stuff for quite a while, I had gotten to the point where I thought I pretty much had my mind wrapped around all the nuances in the rosters and contracts. Baseball is one extremely complicated animal....

That $300,000 revelation changed everything from where I'm sitting.

This was an interesting note in the Tyler Cravy feature we linked to earlier this week as well --

By earning a call-up, even though it lasted just two days, Cravy is on the major league medical plan for the rest of the year.

I wonder if that's because of his new 40-man status. For instance, does LHP Mike Strong, a 40-man member, get that same benefit even though he has not appeared in the bigs. I'm guessing yes, once you're on the 40-man, much of that big league roster stuff kicks in.

I think the fact he required a 40 man spot, has been pretty horrible this year, and only being at High-A were enough to make any team not have interest.

You have to wonder though if he does turn it around we'd still have to protect him in all likelihood again right? Or does half a season of poor numbers do enough to mask a good potential second half?

Not to side track the thread but Jorge Lopez' family could use that plan in the worst way right now, at least he's on tap for a 40 man addition though.

Even if he turns it around the second half I think they are safe from him being picked in the Rule 5 this winter. So I'd say they are safe now until at least next winter.

Has anyone ever been a 2-time Rule 5 draftee?
