Via the Brewers --

OF Monte Harrison & SS Jake Gatewood have been transferred to Helena. OF Mitch Meyer activated from the DL w/WIS; OF Jose Pena transferred to Wisconsin (from Brevard County)

This means, for now, Gregory Munoz should get the bulk of starts at shortstop; Francisco Castillo started 12 games at short for Helena in 2014.

The Timber Rattler OF rotation will include Meyer, Pena, Brandon Diaz and Elvis Rubio, with Castillo in the occasional mix as well.

Perhaps the Brewers media staff should have consulted with the Player Development guys prior to sending out this tweet.

Rattlers to a rain delay leading 5-3 in the bottom of the 6th. I'm wiped out, if I fall asleep before it finishes and the game story is up I'll get the post tomorrow morning.

Would anyone have a recent scouting report on Jorge Lopez or be able to speak to whether he's legit? He's listed at 165, seems to imply he still has room for growth.

From Baseball America when he was ranked #15 prospect coming into the season:

Selected as a raw 18-year-old in the 2011 draft, Lopez took a while to get his feet on the ground professionally. Slowed by back issues early in his career, he experienced little initial success and even moved back to the Dominican Summer League in 2012. He worked his way through continued growing pains and finally began to fulfill his potential in 2014 at high Class A Brevard County, and under the most difficult of circumstances. Lopez's infant son Mikael was seriously ill and needed constant medical care that led to considerable medical bills. But Lopez managed to keep his focus on the mound before fading in the second half. He throws his fastball in the 90-94 mph range with good movement. He has a nice, easy delivery and good sink on his two-seamer. His improved curveball has become a solid-average secondary pitch at 75-78 mph with good bite. Lopez's changeup remains a work in progress, but he is not afraid to use it. Lopez took a step forward and continues to profile as a possible back-end starter in the big leagues. He likely will be assigned to Double-A Biloxi.

Final: Wisconsin 5, Dayton 3

Rattlers beat Dragons 5-3 in rain-shortened game

Wisconsin takes second game in a row at Dayton

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

DAYTON, OH - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers got some bounces going their way and they defeated the Dayton Dragons 5-3 in a game shortened to six innings by rain at Fifth Third Field on Friday night.

Wisconsin (20-41) scored three runs in the top of the second inning. Greg McCall had a leadoff single and took second on a wild pitch. Elvis Rubio hit an infield single to put runners on the corners. Alan Sharkey hit a seeing-eye single through the middle of the diamond to drive in McCall and send Rubio around to third.

Mitch Meyer was next and he appeared to hit into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play. But, Sharkey was ruled safe at second base as the shortstop wasn't on the base when he caught the ball. Rubio scored on the play and the Rattlers were up 2-0. The score moved to 3-0 after a grounder off the bat of Gregory Munoz was misplayed for an error to allow Sharkey to score from second.

Brian O'Grady got the Dragons (31-30) on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second with a leadoff home run.

Wisconsin added to their lead in the top of the sixth inning. McCall singled to start the frame but was still at first with two outs. Sharkey hit a grounder up the middle that was misplayed for an error and McCall wound up on third. Then, Meyer ripped a clean single into right to drive in McCall and send Sharkey for third. Munoz followed with a bunt single to drive in Sharkey and the Rattlers were up 5-1.

Cy Sneed retired fourteen of the sixteen Dragons he faced after allowing the second inning home run to O'Grady. But, he walked Avain Rachal with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and that brought O'Grady to the plate again. The Dayton centerfielder lined a 2-2 pitch from Sneed to right for his second home run of the night and the Rattlers lead was down to two runs.

Tyler Linehan entered the game for Sneed and got the final out of the sixth inning. The tarp went on the field just before the rain started. The game was called after a delay of an hour and twenty-four minutes. Linehan earned the save by getting the last out in the sixth.

Sneed tossed 5-2/3 innings, allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out seven. His seven strikeouts set a new single-game high as a professional for Sneed. He also earned his third win of the season.

The win on Friday night gave the Timber Rattlers a win in the series with the Dragons. Wisconsin has won two straight series.

The Timber Rattlers begin a series with the Bowling Green Hot Rods in Bowling Green, Kentucky on Saturday night. Kodi Medeiros (2-2, 4.21) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Hot Rods have named Greg Harris (3-4, 2.42) as their starting pitcher. Game Time is 7:05pm. Catch the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:45pm. The broadcast may also be heard on Tune In Radio and IHeartRadio.

HOME RUNS:

DAY:

Brian O'Grady (3rd, 0 on in 2nd inning off Cy Sneed, 0 out)

Brian O'Grady (4th, 1 on in 6th inning off Cy Sneed, 2 out)

WP: Cy Sneed (3-7)

LP: Tejay Antone (3-6)

SAVE: Tyler Linehan (1)

TIME: 1:47 (1:24 delay)

ATTN: 8,309

Wisconsin Box Score

All-Star Cy Sneed with yet another solid start for the Rattlers. His only real flaws were the two home run balls, but aside from that he allowed only one other hit and recorded seven punchouts. Not a bad way to earn your first save of the season if you're Tyler Linehan either. Pitched to one batter, got a groundout to end the sixth and then the skies opened up.

Seemed strange not seeing Gatewood or Harrison's names in the lineup, but looking forward to seeing what the two youngsters will do with Helena. Elvis Rubio extended his hitting streak to six games with another multi-hit game and is batting .458 over that stretch. Mitch Meyer with a pair of RBI in his first game back off the DL.

Final: Biloxi 10, Mississippi 2

Magic number down to four after rout of M-Braves Friday

Jorge Lopez picks up win and goes 2-for-4 with RBI in 10-2 win

PEARL, MS - The Shuckers scored a franchise-best six runs in the fifth inning and cruised to a 10-2 victory over the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park Friday night, lowering the magic number for a first half clinch to four. The win helps regain their largest division lead this season of 4 ½ games with only eight left to play in the half. The eight-run win is the largest for the Shuckers this season and snaps a short two-game losing skid. The current series is split at one apiece, with three games remaining in the head-to-head battle for Mississippi and the South Division.

The Shuckers held a 3-1 advantage through the first four frames before sending 11 men to the plate and erupting for the franchise-high six runs in the fifth to blow the game open.

Orlando Arcia (3x6, RBI, R, 2B) and Michael Reed (0x3, RBI, R, BB) reached to start the inning in front of Nick Ramirez (2x4, 2 RBI, R, BB), who doubled the runners home for the first two runs and chased Mississippi starter Greg Ross (L, 2-6) from the game. Tyrone Taylor (1x4, RBI, R, 2B, BB) followed with a double to score Ramirez, giving the Shuckers a five-run advantage. The line kept moving after Taylor Green (2x5, 2 RBI, R, 2B) singled in Taylor for the fourth run of the frame. Adam Weisenburger (1x4, R) then singled, putting two on for Jorge Lopez (2x4), who helped his own cause by depositing a run-scoring single to center for a six-run advantage.

Kyle Wren (3x5, 2 R, BB) loaded the bases with a single before Nathan Orf (2x5, R, 2B, BB) ripped a liner to third for the first out of the inning, but an errant throw to first allowed Weisenburger to score for the sixth run of the inning.

Lopez (W, 4-2) worked quickly in his first start in nine days, recording his fourth quality start with two runs on four hits, three walks and four strikeouts, needing 89 pitches in his six innings. Biloxi has won the 22-year-old Southern League All-Star's last four starts, and is now 8-3 when the righty takes the mound this season. Shuckers' starters have now recorded a quality start in eight of the last 11 games.

Arcia tallied on another run for the Shuckers in the seventh on an RBI single to score Wren and give Biloxi a 10-2 lead.

Trevor Seidenberger (IP, H, SO) worked a shutout seventh and has allowed just one run in five innings since being promoted from the Brevard County Manatees (A+) on June 4. Austin Ross (IP, 2 H, BB, SO) took the eighth and left the bases loaded on 30 pitches. Damien Magnifico (IP, H, BB) finished off Mississippi (32-28) in the ninth.

The game was once again started after a rain delay, this time of 1 hour and 5 minutes. In total the two clubs have had to wait out 1 hour and 37 minutes worth of delays.

Biloxi will look to pull ahead in the five-game series on Saturday night with LHP Hobbs Johnson (3-3, 3.46) squaring off against RHP Victor Mateo (3-2, 2.45). First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM, with coverage beginning at 5:45 on 1240-AM WGCM, 1580-AM WPMO and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. Fans can also listen to the game using the TuneIn Radio app or by going to www.biloxishuckers.com.

Biloxi Box Score

2011 2nd round starter Jorge Lopez can look forward to being added to the 40-man roster this fall, no doubt. Those were the 2nd and 3rd hits of his pro career (all this year at AA, naturally).

Every man in the starting lineup, including Lopez, reached base at least twice, except for RF Michael Reed, but Reed added a sacrifice fly to his walk, so heck, we'll include him too.

Only the 5th error of the season for Mr. Arcia.

Kyle Wren's OPS by month: April .516, May .706, 11 games in June .872.

Final: DSL Cubs 8, DSL Brewers 3

DSL Brewers Box Score

Another odd Cerveceritos game, as this one was tied 1-1 after seven innings! A seven-run 8th doomed the good guys.

22-year-old former stateside Cardinals LHP Isaac Silva was the pitching victim -- sorry, Isaac (1/3 IP, 2 H, 4 BB, 4 WP), but you're no Michael Blazek (former Cardinals reference).

What was encouraging here were the efforts of two rookie youngsters.

Well, technically, RHP Wuilder Rodriguez isn't a youngster for this league (22), but this was only his 2nd career appearance, and the Venezuelan posted a pretty line -- 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K.

Another Venezuelan, RHP Maiker (Joel) Pinto, just 18 years old, made his pro debut a scoreless, but adventurous, one --

DSL Cubs Top of the 6th

Pitching Change: Maiker Pinto replaces Wuilder Rodriguez.

Yeiler Peguero walks.

Yovanny Cuevas lines into a double play, third baseman Javier Castillo to first baseman Nicol Valderrey. Yeiler Peguero doubled off 1st.

Rafael Mejia singles on a ground ball to center fielder Adolfo Morillo.

With Chris Pieters batting, Rafael Mejia steals (2) 2nd base.

Chris Pieters walks.

Wander Feliz pops out to second baseman Franly Mallen.

The experiment of converting Junior Santana continues, still in a wild (but at least with only one unearned run) way --

DSL Cubs Top of the 7th

Pitching Change: Yunior Santana replaces Maiker Pinto.

Fidel Mejia flies out to left fielder Ariel Estades.

Tony Rijo walks.

With Raymond Pena batting, wild pitch by Yunior Santana, Tony Rijo to 2nd.

With Raymond Pena batting, wild pitch by Yunior Santana, Tony Rijo to 3rd.

With Raymond Pena batting, passed ball by Dilson Fernandez, Tony Rijo scores.

Raymond Pena walks.

Jose Jules reaches on a force attempt, fielding error by first baseman Nicol Valderrey. Raymond Pena to 3rd.

With Yeiler Peguero batting, Jose Jules steals (4) 2nd base.

Yeiler Peguero flies out to right fielder Anderson Jesus.

Yovanny Cuevas flies out to right fielder Anderson Jesus.

DSL Brewers Game Log

Will need to keep an eye on this - wouldn't usually pull your catcher in a 1-1 game immediately after he grounds out --

DSL Brewers Bottom of the 7th

Pitching Change: Julian Aybar replaces Pedro Silverio.

Franly Mallen hit by pitch.

Nicol Valderrey strikes out swinging.

With Anderson Jesus batting, Julian Aybar picks off Franly Mallen at 1st on throw to Chris Pieters.

Anderson Jesus homers (1) on a fly ball to left field.

Dilson Fernandez grounds out, second baseman Fidel Mejia to first baseman Chris Pieters.

DSL Cubs Top of the 8th

Defensive Substitution: Sandy Martinez replaces catcher Dilson Fernandez, batting 6th, playing catcher.

Welcome back, Brad!

Just in time to allow me to focus on late night / early morning rookie league box scores, Brad Krause (bkrause2) of Miller Park Prospects is back in the Link Report saddle.

Brad will be taking over Biloxi and Dominican duties from me, and I want to thank the Shuckers for the joyride it's been for the first two and a half months!

Thanks again to TheCrew07 and WV Brew (Seth and Tim) for their continued Timber Rattler and Manatee assistance, especially the insights they provide beyond the box score through audio/TV listening or watching.

Our goal is to have a completed Report available to you by 7:00 AM Central each morning, to review before you're off to work. Please keep in mind that due to the late nature of the Sky Sox and rookie league games, we'll sneak past that deadline occasionally.

As always, thanks for reading...

Sox Bats Stymied In Twin Bill Sweep

Iowa Needs Just Three Total Runs to Take Double Header from Sky Sox

By Ed Pearsall / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/5/8/6/130334586/cuts/04_28_129_pk_2ncf63mc_ajxn4xt2.jpg

Sox starter Tim Dillard worked 4.1 innings of one run ball in game two of Friday's double header in Iowa. Unfortunately the run was all Iowa needed. (File Photo from prior game by Paat Kelly)

Runs were at a true premium during the Sky Sox 14-inning double header loss to the Iowa Cubs before a Friday evening crowd of 9,269 at Principal Park.

The Colorado Springs offense would manage just seven total hits between the two games of the double header, resulting in two scoreless efforts. It took Iowa just three runs to sweep the twin bill, dealing Sox starters Drew Gagnon (1-8, 7.64) and Tim Dillard (1-1, 4.24) the hard luck losses in otherwise serviceable outings.

Gagnon allowed two runs over four innings on four hits and three walks, striking out four along the way. The right-hander has run into some bad luck with his last two scheduled starts being affected by the elements. He allowed his first run thanks to two straight two-out hits in the home second, the second an RBI by Jonathan Mota. Gagnon's second run allowed came in the fourth on a Chris Valaika sacrifice fly.

Jim Henderson and birthday boy Jed Bradley each tossed a scoreless, one-hit frame in relief of Gagnon as they combined for three strikeouts. The Sox staff would hold the I-Cubs to six hits despite the seemingly lopsided performance.

I-Cubs righty Felipe Paulino (1-3, 5.01) held the Sky Sox scoreless for six innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out three in the impressive start. Brian Schlitter finished the shortened seven inning contest with a scoreless seventh, earning his fifth save of the season and the nailing down Iowa's 2-0 game one victory.

Colorado Springs Game One Box Score

Colorado Springs Game One Game Log

Dillard would suffer the same fate in game two, tossing 4.1 innings of one run ball while giving up four hits and four walks and striking out five. The lone blemish on the quirky right-hander's line came courtesy of Arismendy Alcantara in the bottom of the fifth, Dillard's final frame. The speedy I-Cubs second baseman led off the inning with a triple to right before being plated by Adron Chambers' sacrifice fly in the following at bat. Dillard would issue a free pass to Matt Szczur immediately after, ending his night as Ariel Pena came on to finish out the inning. Pena ended the fifth with two quick outs before being replaced by David Goforth in what would be Iowa's final turn at the plate in the sixth. Goforth allowed one hit and struck out one in his scoreless frame, keeping the I-Cubs to just five total hits in the second game.

The Sox offense was stifled once again by Iowa pitching, collecting just three hits against game two starter Carlos Pimentel (4-4, 3.67) over his six innings of shutout ball. The right hander struck out three while helping his team frustrate Sky Sox bats for 14 innings on a long day in Iowa.

Right-hander Carl Edwards Jr. nailed down the 1-0 win for Iowa, closing out Colorado Springs with a scoreless seventh to earn his first save.

The tough day leaves the Sky Sox with a 24-35 record as the I-Cubs improve to 31-28 with the twin-killing.

The Sox will look to get back in the series in game three on Saturday evening. Josh Roenicke (4-2, 4.28) will face off with I-Cubs righty Donn Roach (6-0, 2.07) with first pitch set for 6:08 PM MDT (7:08 Central) at Principal Park.

Colorado Springs Game Two Box Score

We'll have to see if Josh Roenicke makes Saturday's start as noted above. It would be on three days' rest while Tyler Cravy last pitched on the 7th and Tyler Thornburg on the 8th.

But then again, this is a disjointed, awkward Sky Sox roster with only two outfielders (Matt Long and Logan Schafer -- OK, Elian Herrera sometimes, too), leaving left field duties to Pete Orr (Game One) and Matt Clark (Game Two).

Yadiel Rivera started both games at third base, and we should be fine with that, he has the frame at 6'3", 180+. Grab that position by the horns, young man, it's there for the taking.

RHP Ariel Pena's been spectacular this month, but if there's going to be a 40-man roster crunch this fall, he may walk as a 26-year-old minor league free agent.
