Sky Sox manager Rick Sweet says OF/IF Shane Peterson has been promoted to Milwaukee. He's 10th from Colorado Springs to get the call this year.

Brewers have called up OF Shane Peterson. Peterson, a lefty, was hitting .320. He is 27, and has played all the OF positions and 1B.

He has decent power, but nothing special. He has always hit for a decent average.

For those of you keeping score at home, by my count since the Detroit series it has been:

Segura to DL- Jimenez up

Scooter down- Knebel up

Peralta to DL- Goforth up

Kintzler to the DL- Segura back

Davis to the DL- Wagner up

Lucroy back- Centeno down

Wagner down- Cravey up

Herrera out- Perez up

Cravey down- Peterson up

I think I got it. Been a busy few weeks.

We won't really need a 5th starter again until 6/9 by my estimation. It would seem to me that Cravy has earned that callup. We will likely be seeing plenty of roster moves throughout June. My hope is that we don't have too much egregious burning of guys' minor league options.

I thought he had to stay down for 10 days?

Would have liked to have seen Cravy make another start but they do need outfielders so glad for Peterson. I would bet Jungmann is next since he is on the 40 man and he already burned his option. Wonder how long they will go with switching between Wagner/Cravy/Jungmann as the 5th starter as I imagine the next guy will be sent right back down with the Smith suspension coming.

add in that were playing in Minnesota this weekend, having another bat with the DH was probably going to be necessary anyhow

I would have just released Ramirez or Lohse in the hopes somebody would claim them on waivers

If not for Smith's pending suspension, they would likely have sent down a reliever instead of Cravy. They are in "opportunity mode" right now so lots of guys are going to get looks. We certainly haven't seen the last of Cravy for 2015. My money's on the next Tyler, Thornburg. He pitched last Friday, so he's probably going today, and would be ready to make the next start on Tuesday, when the Brewers next will need a 5th starter.

I also really think Blazek will start at some point too but the Smith situation is preventing that now.

Wonder if Michael Reed or Kyle Wren will be promoted to take Peterson's spot in AAA?

Peterson was one of three players - two former first-round picks (Brett Wallace, Clayton Mortensen) and Peterson a 2nd round pick - the Cardinals sent to the A's for Matt Holliday.

Prospects don't always pan out. Wallace, pre-2010, was BA's 27th ranked prospect.

Wren spent 1/2 of last year at AA, so the logical progression is him moving up. I wonder if that gets Roache bumped up to AA.

It's some pretty fascinating roster management. And considering they're likely to call up Thornburg in a week when they need a 5th starter again, maybe they're on to something with stashing a few 5th starters in the minors and then cycling through them only as you need them.

AKCheesehead, Yes, we have purchased the contracts of Wagner and Cravy, but now that their 1st options have been used, let's send them back and forth as much as we want. So the next time we need a 5th starter is June 9th. Wagner pitched the 31st. So he won't be eligible to return. We'll likely turn to Jungmann or Thorny for our next outing, but then I could see Cravy back.

Well, we now know the move was because of Braun.

Who gets promoted to AAA? Hopefully Reed. Wren if anything deserves a demotion with his complete lack of hitting ability. I think it's fairly obvious at this point Wren was a move to get away from the Braves organization and not for any future Major League potential.

I like the poster who projects Thornburg to take over in the rotation next.

I still don't get the Hernan Perez claim. A utility Infielder that is now clogging up the middle infield roster when the team needs the OF or SP spot instead? He has 1 XBH in 117PAs now at the ML level. You appear to have a ceiling of .665OPS at best in the guy. The fact that he's been claimed now twice, because of his defensive abilities, shows exactly why I think Segura has some tremendous trade value. His bat is obviously far higher ceiling in OPS than Perez with likely equal defensive skills. If Perez has ML value to teams to continue being claimed, then Segura has to be desired by a number of teams for what he's been and can be.

Is it just me or does it seem like the league is dragging its feet on Smith's appeal? I wish a decision would come tomorrow so the suspension will get over with. :rolleyes

Well the Smith suspension would have been quicker if not for the other guy getting caught a day or two later. Now they are waiting on his hearing(which was today) and a decision will come on Friday. I would guess they get the same suspension.

Neither would be claimed, both would elect free agency, we would pay their salaries, and get nothing in return. A bit early to just dump them and swallow their salary.

Between them they are a combined -1.6 WAR so far. I realize they are holding out hope that a sudden surge by either would allow them to move them (hence the post in blue), but really nothing in return is better than a negative return on their salaries. Somebody would pick them up and you can save the major league minimum. Brewers tried that with Wolf in 2012. Maybe should have let him go earlier and looked at the young guys.
