2015 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 21-40

Please use this thread to share your thoughts, links, stories, pictures and anything else on the Brewers' picks on draft day from rounds 21 through 40. Please do not start separate threads to discuss the individual picks.

Please use the in-draft thread to talk about the picks, similar to a game thread.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Hooper!!! That would be so sweet if we found a way to sign him.

He tweeted that he's 100% attending UCLA. Obviously things can change but I doubt we have the money to convince him to sign.

What does UCLA have that Wisconsin doesn't? Oh...nevermind

Just looking through the first 10 rounds the only player that will for sure sign a below slot deal is Allemand. That leaves almost no money to bring in Hooper or India, unless of course we want to give up at the bare minimum our 1st rounder next year, which would be silly.

Wouldn't have been upset had they picked a couple more college seniors to save some money. Of course there was no guarantee the Brewers would have gotten Hooper or India and they might have ended up picking a few much worse players for no gain at all.

The way the slotting works you cant use money from the first 10 rounds for players outside those rounds.

They did that to stop teams from bonus babying players in exactly the way people are trying to think of the brewers doing for hooper.

If you pick them. Do you at least get to put them in good will and sit down and speak to them for a signing negotiation? 3years from now it can be, hey remember we picked you in 2015? Worked on getting insight on what you think you'll ask for in 3years?

Or another way to put it. The 40rounds, picking unsignable players, saves the team money. The club is likely about to add to its farm system through trades to begin with. They don't need to fill out rosters for rk/a/a-/a+ ball.

There's gotta be something that the club gets for drafting a player. Extra workouts down the road? Extra tape? Then again, Melvin apparently didn't know they drafted Carlos Rodon? or something of that sorts when asked about him.

[sarcasm]It helps build his draft record. "Well, we scouted and drafted X, Y and Z, but couldn't sign them. So our scouting is fine."[/sarcasm]

Honestly, knowing that you can find Mike Fiers in round 25 and Mike Piazza in round 48 (yeah, a long shot, but they are there), why bother drafting someone you can't sign? Maybe the key is to simply draft everyone named, "Mike" after round 20.

Is there any logical reason for drafting guys at this stage who will not sign? Does it help build a relationship with these players that might make it easier for the Brewers to sign them next year?

This is why the draft process drives me nuts. The Brewers can't offer Hooper big money at this point, and he's already said he's going to college...this is a waste of time.

Shorten the draft, and get rid of all these rounds of kids who will never sign, it is woefully inefficient, and silly.

Charlie Donovan, SS, Westmont HS, Clarendon Hills, Illinois: Hits left, Michigan commit, one of the top high school players in the Midwest though generally expected to head for college and leap the list in three years. TT: Seventh round or later.

Probably another no sign..

(John India is on this list too)

So we took Hooper, India and Everett, Donovan and Beck (so far)...all were really high prospects with super strong college commitments right? So extremely unlikely we sign them?

So if we could even sign ONE that's a huge get? Doesn't hurt to take fliers at this point IMO.

That seems like a lot of guys we have little to no chance of signing. Does the team know something we don't or are they just hoping they'll throw whatever money they have left over to them and hope to get lucky?

Is there a point where we just sign these guys an lose a number one next year? Has anyone ever done that? Hooper, Everett, India, maybe Perry are getting pretty close to a top pick, but I don't know what it would take to sign all of them either.

Great question. Add Tristan Beck to the mix as well.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Part of me is kind of hoping we sign all of these strong college commits/higher talent than where they were drafted guys and exceed our bonus pool by like 250% just to show MLB how stupid their draft system is.
