Alright I'm starting to get a little nervous about Kirby, I figured that he would be signed by today.

Here are the unsigned 1st round picks according to BA:

1 1 Diamondbacks Dansby Swanson SS Vanderbilt TN

1 14 Braves Kolby Allard LHP San Clemente (Calif.) HS CA

1 16 Yankees James Kaprielian RHP UCLA CA

1 24 Dodgers Walker Buehler RHP Vanderbilt TN

1 35 Dodgers Kyle Funkhouser RHP Louisville KY

I am told it still looks good before Friday deadline for #Brewers to sign LHP Nathan Kirby, a Competitive Balance Round A pick.

Maybe I've not paid that much attention to signing bonuses in the past because I don't remember one that far out of line, even for seniors.

It is not an uncommon strategy. In order to create enough money to sign a 1st round talent in the subsequent rounds like we've done the past two years with Jake Gatewood & (hopefully) Nathan Kirby, respectively, the team will use a midround pick (slot valued around 300-400K) and intentionally sign someone who was probably going far outside the 10th round, for 50K- thus saving around 300K extra to use to sign that top round talent, and the player gets the notoriety of being a mid-round pick, instead of 15th roundish pick.

It has been standard strategy for the Brewers the last three years:

2015- 5th round- Blake Allemand (50K)

2014- 5th round- Dustin Demuth (50K)

2013- 6th round- Garrett Cooper (30K)

and yeah, especially after the 20th round, most picks are signing for 10K or less. not much- but its that or Indy ball...yikes.

Kirby expected to sign with Brewers

By Andrew Ramspacher, The Daily Progress (Charlottesville, VA)

Don’t expect any surprise gifts on MLB Draft deadline day, Virginia fans.

As of Thursday evening, Cavaliers ace Nathan Kirby, selected 40th overall by the Milwaukee Brewers, had yet to sign with the National League club.

However, according to a source with knowledge of the situation, Kirby will indeed ink a deal with Brewers before 5 p.m., Friday, the deadline for picks to sign.

Should nothing get finalized by that time, Kirby would likely return to UVa for his senior season.

Kirby, sidelined nine weeks because of a lat strain, went 5-3 with a 2.53 ERA this season. The left-hander recorded the final six outs of the Cavaliers’ national championship-clinching win over Vanderbilt on June 24.

The signing bonus value for pick No. 40 is $1.5 million.

It's been since 2011 that a significant Brewer signing has come down to the wire, and it still sucks.

How about some good news please thanks!
