Peralta to DL, David Goforth to Milwaukee

i would think it blazek then either Thornburgh or Jugmann, they needed a reliever cause of Smith being suspension tomorrow. I also guess it put to rest any trade rumours of Loshe or Gaeza being moved until Perelta comes back.

hoping its blazek, would like to see what he has as a starter. as far as lohse or garza goes, still have thornburg and jungmann in the minors so both should still be able to be dealt.

I don't think either would be dealt in the next 10-15 days anyway.

No ideal options. Thornburg is just starting to get on track. The rest of the AAA rotation has been terrible. Otherwise you have to call someone from AA and add them to the 40 man. Blazek did throw 44 pitches on the 22nd, so hopefully, he could give you 4 innings.

This was the case before this injury, so I don't think it's part of the plan, but the Brewers do have an open spot on the 40-man.

I wouldn't be shocked if Cotts is released this week. Then bring up Jungmann or Thornburg. This team needs to accept that they are playing for the future. Goforth has potential to be a good reliever. Time to move on from mistakes like Cotts and see what the young guys can do. We're just fooling ourselves if we think we can trade him. Then give Jungmann or Thornburg some starts while Peralta is out. If they don't sink, they move into the rotation when we move Lohse/Garza.

Like I said, it's time to move on and give other guys a chance.

reilly, you are correct.... every AA and AAA guys with some 'stuff' should be given a chance to get his feet wet. We should soon be jettisoning any player who is not the future. Not an evil jettison, just a simple 'what is the best a trade partner will give'... if what we can get is NOTHING, accept it, and move on. If you had to choose to watch Cotts or Goforth, which will you choose. If you have a choice to watch Broxton or, say, Mike Strong (he is on the 40 man with a 1.71 era, 0.81 whip, 24ks v 7bb in 21 relief innings; and that is just a follow on from his 2014 campaign).

It must be the time, very, very soon for management to make a decision... are you in for 2016, or maybe 2017, or maybe later, even. I am sure they are thinking!

So they're saying Blazek is an option and Fiers on short rest is another. How stupid is this team? A reliever as a starter or putting a guy on short rest for no reason.

Blazek started 17 games last year and just went 3 innings in his last appearance. He's probably their best option at this point. Thornburg just isn't right yet.

This is all due to happen on Wednesday right? Any chance tickets are any cheaper since the team is basically waiving the white flag for a getaway game? /blue

No need for blue as tickets are generally quite a bit cheaper when the team is bad.

Not really. He's allowed 8 earned runs on 16 hits and 8 walks over his last two starts covering 10 2/3 IP. Besides, he too would be on short rest having pitched Saturday.

Cravy's probably in the best form of any of the starters (not saying much) at AAA and he last pitched on Thursday so he could be added. Wagner's an option from AA. He last pitched on Friday, so he'd be available if they decided to go that route. Still think Blazek is most likely on about a pitch count of 65-70.

Understood, and agreed; however, I was thinking of the team cutting back prices even more, given the starter - or lack thereof.

Cue the jokes about Glendon Rusch and any of the other misfits on some of the horrendous Brewer teams of the early 2000s.

From the article on the Brewers' site, if they go with Fiers on short rest, they won't need the 5th starter spot for a while, giving them a chance to jigger the AAA rotation to bring up the guys they want. That seems to me to be the better option, unless they really want Blazek in the rotation over someone like Thornburg or Jungmann, which is a possibility.

Injuries in the rotation are never ideal. I am glad they took Thornburg out of the MLB bullpen and back to the AAA rotation for just this reason. They've been very lucky with starters' health for quite a while, but they were destined to need a "#6 starter" eventually. Better for him to be stretched out at AAA.

Id like to see Jungmann get an extended trial here. I am definitely not sold on him being anything other than a 4/5 at all. But I don't think keeping him at Colorado will help him develop, and if anything turn him into a nibbler. He just had a nice start (finally), so its time to keep the momentum and move him up.

At 16-30, we arent risking a flame out here, and worst case, we will know to move on. Best case, he shows he belongs.

I think that this injury gets someone to the big leagues earlier, but before too long both Lohse and Garza will be traded, and we'll have plenty of opportunity to try our minor leaguers out at the big league level. Jungmann and Thornburg are as ready as they'll ever get to pitch in a MLB rotation, so they'll finally get their shot to show what they can do.

If Thornburg was pitching well, it would be a no-brainer. But he's not. Neither is Jungmann. Some of that is pitching in Colorado Springs, but not all. They likely feel like Blazek can give them 5 innings and fill in for two starts. With an 8 man bullpen, they can cover the rest of the game. I believe there's some thinking that Blazek could be a starter. After all he made a number of starts at AAA last year. This would be a great opportunity for him to make a statement.

It's far from a sure thing that they'll find buyers for both Lohse and Garza, certainly not Garza with how he's pitched and what's remaining on his contract.

I would say "when it rains, it pours", but I'm in the Dallas area where it's been raining for two months straight, and people have been losing their lives because of it. So, I'm not going to say that.

But this is just another blow to a terrible season. We finally develop a pitcher, and now this. I hope it's only 4-6 weeks.
