Speaking of Chapman and since his agent posts here, what are the plans for him? He is a former big leaguer that is pitching well in AA, are the Brewers planning to bump him up to AAA or would they even consider promoting him to the big league club without a stint in AAA? Any issues with his hip still?

Unless some crazy stuff happens in the last innings in AA and A+ it's been quite the pitching night organization wide. AAA has a ways to go, but majors through minors as of right now they have only given up 2 runs total.

Sneed shines as Rattlers shutout Kane County

GENEVA, IL - Cy Sneed pitched eight shutout innings and received enough offensive support to pick up the victory in the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4-0 win over the Kane County Cougars Friday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

 

The game was a pitchers' duel from the start as Sneed, the 3rd round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2014 draft, matched up against Touki Toussaint, the #1 pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the same draft.

 

Toussaint kept Wisconsin (12-30) off the scoreboard through six innings. He allowed two hits, walked two, hit one, and struck out one. But, Sneed kept Kane County (20-22) off the board as well.

 

The Timber Rattlers broke the scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Greg McCall singled to start the rally and was bunted to second by Sthervin Matos. Francisco Castillo knocked in McCall with a double to center to make it 1-0. Elvis Rubio followed with an RBI single to left for a 2-0 lead.

 

Sneed took his shutout through eight innings. He faced just three over the minimum over his eight frames thanks to a pickoff and a pair of double plays. Sneed scattered six hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out six as he tossed 91 pitches (68 of strikes) on the night.

 

Wisconsin added to their lead in the ninth inning. Jake Gatewood stepped in with the bases loaded and two outs and looped a single to right that drove in two runs for a 4-0 lead.

 

Tyler Linehan worked a perfect ninth inning to close out the game.

 

McCall and Sthervin Matos each had two hits in the game for the Wisconsin offense.

 

Sneed earned his second win of the season, broke a personal four-game losing streak, and dropped his ERA to 1.81 for the season.

 

Game two of the four-game series is Saturday night. Kodi Medeiros (1-2, 5.35) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Ethan Elias (4-1, 1.53) is the scheduled starter for the Cougars. Game time is 6:30pm.

Well I talk a little of smack about the organizations' pitchers not getting through 6 and Cy Sneed pitches a beauty, maybe I'll do that more often! What a fun game this was until Sthervin Matos hurt himself on a late slide into 3rd on Tucker Neuhaus' double in the 9th. Hopefully it's nothing serious but Chris said the trainer was looking at Sthervin's knee and I don't want to speculate on the injury without having seen it.

 

Regardless though the young Rattlers needed a victory like this and hopefully Matos is alright.

Fort Myers, Fla. - Javi Salas dominated as the Brevard County Manatees (18-23) defeated the Fort Myers Miracle (20-22) 2-1 on Friday night at CenturyLink Sports Complex.

 

Salas (3-3, 2.61 ERA) threw seven strong innings to earn the win. He allowed just one run on six hits and fanned five.

 

The Manatees struck early with a run in the first inning. Omar Garcia, who was hitting in the leadoff spot for the first time all year, singled up the middle. Chris McFarland then dropped down a bunt that resulted in a single. Garcia moved to second to put two on with nobody out. With Clint Coulter at the plate, Garcia and McFarland executed a double steal. Coulter grounded into a fielder's choice to first that scored Garcia. It was Coulter's 30th RBI of the season.

 

The Miracle tied the game in the third with two outs. Jason Kanzler dropped down a bunt single. Kanzler then stole second. Alex Swim doubled to left to tie the score.

 

Brevard County regained the lead in the sixth inning. Victor Roache led things off with a walk. Two batters later, Garrett Cooper singled to left. Roache moved to third on the play. Jose Pena bounced into a fielder's choice to third, but scored Roache in the process. The Manatees led, 2-1.

 

Trevor Seidenberger came on in the ninth and retired the side in order to record his third save of the season.

 

Brian Gilbert (1-2, 2.53 ERA) was hit with the loss. He allowed a run on one hit and two walks in three innings.

 

Manny Barreda pitched a scoreless eighth inning in his Brevard County debut. He only allowed a two-out walk.

 

The victory marked the first win in Fort Myers for the Manatees since June 4, 2013.

 

The series will continue in Fort Myers tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. RHP Jorge Ortega (3-3, 2.44 ERA) will get the start for the Manatees. The Miracle will send 2013 first-round pick RHP Kohl Stewart to the bump.

The Sky Sox rode a strong power display to a one-sided 7-2 victory over the Salt Lake Bees before a crowd of 4,313 at Smith's Ballpark on Friday night.

 

Sox starter Tyler Cravy (4-4, 4.61) tossed six strong innings of one-run baseball, allowing six base-runners on three hits and three walks while striking out four.

 

Colorado Springs took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second when Chris Nelson took a 1-1 offering from Bees right-hander Drew Rucinski (0-4, 7.99) over the right field fence for a two-run shot; his first long ball since rejoining the Sky Sox as a member of the Brewers organization.

 

The Sox would tag Rucinski for runs in the third and sixth thanks to solo shots by Matt Clark and Nevin Ashley respectively, giving the Salt Lake starter a final line that saw him allow four runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five over 5.2 innings of work.

 

Four consecutive one-out singles and a base hit in the Sox eighth gave Colorado Springs a late 7-1 lead against the Bees as righty Cam Bedrosian would be charged with the frame's runs.

 

Holding a 7-1 lead after Ariel Pena maintained the lead with two scoreless innings of his own, the Sox deployed Rob Wooten to close out the ballgame, the side-slinging right-hander would allow a one-out home run to Bees outfielder Roger Kieschnick to cut the Colorado Springs lead to five before closing out the ballgame at 7-2 on strikeouts of two of the game's final three batters.

 

The Sox lineup would record 12 hits in the ballgame off of a combination of four Salt Lake pitchers with Ashley's three-hit, three-run game leading the way with Nelson and his two-run, two RBI night.

 

The Sox improve to 16-24 with the win as they push Salt Lake to a 19-22 record a little more than a quarter through the 2015 PCL season.

 

Colorado Springs will look to take control of the four-game set in game three on Saturday night. Taylor Jungmann (1-1, 7.68) faces off with Angels top pitching prospect Andrew Heaney (5-0, 3.12) at Smith's Ballpark with first pitch set for 6:35 PM MDT (7;35 Central) in Salt Lake.

Looks like that photo in the home whites is a file picture; regardless, how about Nevin Ashley and his .929 OPS after 98 AB's? Martin Maldonado's two-year deal means the 30-year old Ashley is on injury-watch. In five road starts, RHP Tyler Cravy has walked 16 in 24 innings, actually better and in more control at home -- still, nice effort here...

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Starter Brent Suter tossed a season-high six shutout innings and matched a season-high with six strikeouts as Biloxi defeated the Birmingham Barons 4-1 at Joe Davis Stadium on Friday night. Suter notched his third win of the season and didn't walk a batter as the Shuckers' were helped by three Birmingham errors in the fifth and two hits from Parker Berberet and two RBI's from Nick Shaw. After taking the 2-0 series lead over the Barons Friday night, the Shucers retain their 2.5 game division lead over Mississippi and are 6-1 against Jacksonville and the Barons on this 10-game "homestand" in Huntsville.

 

Suter (W, 3-1) was making the spot start for Brooks Hall and the lefty out of Harvard did not disappoint.

 

"I felt good," stated Suter, on his seventh outing of the season and third start. "My command was better than it's been all year I'd say. I was staying down in the zone and everything worked off the fastball pretty nicely tonight."

 

For the fifth straight game, Biloxi jumped out in front first, this time using an RBI groundout by Shaw (1x3, 2 RBI, R, 2B) to bring in Brandon Macias (1x3, 2 R, BB) for a 1-0 lead in the third.

 

Biloxi (26-16) stretched its advantage to four with a three-run fifth. After a groundout by Taylor Green (1x4) started the frame, Macias walked and Berberet (2x3, R, 2B) singled on a ground ball to short, but a throwing error allowed Macias to move to third. The hit stretched the backup catcher's hitting streak to six games. Shaw then doubled home Macias and moved Berberet to third. Kyle Wren's (1x3, BB) single to first scored Berberet and gave the Shuckers a 3-0 lead. Tyrone Taylor (0x3, RBI) attempted a sacrifice bunt, but an error on the pitcher Mark Blackmar allowed Shaw to score without a play to give Biloxi its third run of the inning. Both Wren and Berberet extended their hitting streaks to six games, while Wren tied a team-leading on-base streak at 22 consecutive games.

 

Orlando Arcia (0x4) reached on an error, but was unable to reach base for a 23rd consecutive game, ending his team-high streak.

 

The Barons had scoring opportunities in the first and third. Suter struck out Christian Marrero and got a fly out by Danny Hayes with a runner at third in the first and stranded another runner at third in the third inning by striking out Birmingham's Courtney Hawkins to end the inning.

 

"They put some hits together and it definitely wasn't a breeze," Suter replied in response to Birmingham's five hits in the first three innings. "They put the pressure on and the defense played great behind me and we were able to get out of those." The Shuckers turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the second inning after a leadoff single by Chris Curley.

 

"I wasn't worrying about what had happened, but just that next pitch and executing it - fortunately it worked out tonight for me."

 

Jacob Barnes worked a perfect seventh and eighth before being touched for a run with two outs in the ninth. Mike Strong (SV, 1) shut the door by retiring Jeremy Farrell to secure the Shuckers' victory.

 

On the six-game winning streak, Suter added, "It's a very good streak and I hope we keep it going. This is a great clubhouse with a lot of quality dudes. It's a lot of fun right now."

 

The Shuckers will look to extend their season-long six-game winning streak to seven on Saturday night, with RHP Tyler Wagner (5-0, 1.91) going up against RHP Tyler Barnette (1-2, 1.83). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM, with coverage beginning at 6:55 p.m. on 1240-AM WGCM and the Biloxi Shuckers Radio Network. The first part of your statement is such a generality, except for the word "all" you squeezed in there. The super-young Wisconsin kids didn't get off to hot starts, so I guess they're excluded from your analysis here.

 

Yeah, that 1.013 Orlando Arcia April OPS was unsustainable, but his .291/.344/.419 May line as a 20-year-old SS with outstanding defense doesn't combine to meet your breakout standard, it seems.

I was hoping Arcia or Coulter were going to catapult themselves into top-50/top-25 discussion this season, but they've cooled off considerably. Arcia having a solid season but showing very little power is not a breakout to me. The kids in Wisconsin are off to horrendous starts.

 

I used the word "all" because I'm referring to our handful of potentially-elite prospects. Lesser guys like Michael Reed are having great seasons, obviously.
