Cheap real estate, a billionaire golf fan, and not playing the courses for 5 months which helps them regrow. Two of my best friends in the MBA program these past two years were from the Carolinas and they both marveled at how good of condition the public courses are here. I told them two reasons: not playing the courses for five months, and goose droppings fertilize them well in the fall.
