Big thanks to TheCrew07 and WV Brew for helping me out with AAA and AA coverage through Monday night.

Ah, those hit or miss Florida showers.

I'm 40 miles north of Tampa this weekend, and didn't see a raindrop nor heard any thunder all evening. Knew it was a possibility, but was very surprised to see the Manatees were called so early in Tampa.

It'd be awesome to get to Steinbrenner Stadium for tonight's twinbill, but it won't be happening -- wasn't exactly the purpose of Mrs. Mass Haas' trip ;).

Nice wedding celebration last night, was nice to see the Crew enjoyed Citi Field as well.

Enjoy your Saturday, everyone!

Good to see Devin Williams take the bump.

Brevard County 6, Tampa 4 (Game 1)

Brandon Woodruff went 6 innings to help save the bullpen for the nightcap and pick up a win. Trevor Seidenberger picked up a 1 inning save despite yielding his first run of the year. Offensively the Manatees had a lot of help from the Yankees' defense. Seidenberger almost gave up the losing hit when he walked two and gave up a single. Michael O'Neill (son of former Yankee Paul) hit a potentially game winning home run but it just hooked foul and he struck out on the next pitch to end the game. Chris McFarland extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Wisconsin drops 4-2 decision to Kane County

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Monte Harrison had a pair of hits, drew a walk, and scored two runs for the Timber Rattlers on Saturday afternoon.

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had plenty of chances on Saturday afternoon against the Kane County Cougars, but it was the visiting team that picked up the 4-2 win at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Victor Reyes had three hits, scored twice, and drove in a run to lead the Cougars to their second straight win in the series.

Kane County (17-19) got to Wisconsin starting pitcher Devin Williams for a pair of runs in the third inning. Victor Reyes tripled to start the inning. Colin Bray knocked in Reyes with a sacrifice fly. Later in the frame, Marty Herum and Grant Heyman had back-to-back doubles to get the Cougars a 2-0 lead.

Wisconsin (9-27) looked primed to tie the game and more as they loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the third. Jake Gatewood and Monte Harrison singled and Dustin DeMuth walked to put a Rattler on every base. Kane County starter Brent Jones got a strikeout and a force out at home plate for the first two outs. Then, he hit Elvis Rubio on an 0-2 pitch to force in a run to give the Rattlers a run. Jones escaped the jam with the lead on a strikeout for the last out.

Greg McCall singled with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Then, Harrison singled with two outs and DeMuth walked again to load the bases against Jones again. But, the Rattlers couldn't push a run across the plate as Jones got a flyout for the last out.

Williams, the #8 prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers minor league system according to Baseball America who was making his Midwest League debut, left after four innings. He allowed two runs on six hits with no walks and struck out three on 55 pitches.

The Cougars added to their lead with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings off reliever Angel Ventura. Reyes started the fifth inning with a single, went to second on a sacrifice but, and took third on a groundout. Herum made it 3-1 with a two-out single to left. In the sixth, Joe Munoz singled with one out. Ryan Gebhardt singled with two outs to put runners on the corners. Reyes was next and he would strike again with an RBI single to put the Cougars up 4-1.

Jones left after five innings and six strikeouts. The Kane County bullpen started with two scoreless innings - including three strikeouts - by Cody Geyer.

Rubio started the Wisconsin eighth inning by drawing a walk against Luis Ramirez. Brandon Diaz drew a one out walk to bring the tying run to the plate. But, Ramirez got out of the eighth inning without allowing a run.

Gian Rizzo kept the Rattlers within striking distance as he retired all six Kane County batter he faced in two scoreless innings out of the Wisconsin bullpen.

The Rattlers got the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth. Ramirez walked Harrison and DeMuth to start the inning. Sthervin Matos flew out to the track in left field for the first out and that allowed Harrison to tag and go to third.

Kane County closer Zac Curtis took over for Ramirez at this point and threw a wild pitch to allow Harrison to score and DeMuth to take second. Then, Curtis walked Tucker Neuhaus to bring the winning run to the plate.

Curtis would get a strikeout for the second out. Alan Sharkey lined a pitch to the gap in right-center, but the ball hung up for Ryan Hutchison to run down for the final out.

Wisconsin stranded thirteen runners and went 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position in the game.

Harrison had a pair of hits, scored both runs, and drew a walk for the Rattlers on Saturday.

The Timber Rattlers conclude their series with the Cougars and their homestand on Sunday afternoon. Wisconsin will send Cy Sneed (1-4, 1.38) to the mound as their starting pitcher. Kane County has not announced their starter for Sunday. Game time is 1:05pm.

Sunday is Bark in the Park. The left field berm will be set aside for our canine friends. Admission is free for our four-legged friends. Plus, the first 1,000 humans Sunday's game will receive bobblehead of the adorable Hank the Dog from Fox Valley Animal Referral Center and Fromm Family Foods.

A nice Devin Williams pic leads things off in this edition.

Wisconsin Boxscore

Sometimes I'm a putz, I swear I set my DVR last night for this game knowing that I was going to be invested elsewhere during the day, only to get home and find that I messed up and didn't record the game. Which means that unfortunately I don't have any observations regarding Devin Williams to offer. Though I guess the good news is that I get to dive right into Orphan Black when I'm done here.

The 3rd was especially unsatisfying, the Rattlers actually had more walks (9), than hits (6), but topped double strike outs with (11).

Sox Pitching Stalls In 10-4 Loss To Express

Round Rock Collects 17 Hits In One-Sided Contest

By Ed Pearsall / Colorado Springs Sky Sox

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Sky Sox fell victim to a few crooked innings in their 10-4 loss to the Round Rock Express in front of 3,318 fans at Security Service Field on Saturday night.

Jed Bradley (1-3, 9.87) got the spot start for the Sox, tossing two innings before handing the ball to the game's originally scheduled starter Taylor Jungmann.

Bradley looked strong through one batter, striking out the recently demoted Rougned Odor on three pitches. Unfortunately that would be Bradley's lone punchout as the lefty would struggle over his next 1.2 innings, allowing a total of five runs on seven hits. Making his debut with Round Rock, former Braves utility-man Tyler Pastornicky would torch Bradley for a double and RBI triple in his first two at-bats respectively, scoring the game's first run along the way. Following Pastornicky in the order, Express right fielder Jake Smolinski would also fare well against Bradley, collecting RBI singles in each of his first to plate appearances.

After quickly falling behind 2-0, the Sox responded with a run of their own in the home half of the first thanks to the top of the order. Matt Long welcomed Round Rock right-hander Jerad Eickhoff (3-2, 4.99) with a leadoff single before Yadiel Rivera drove him home on a long RBI double to the left-centerfield gap. The RBI marks the first of Rivera's Triple-A career, checking that milestone off in just his second start since being called up from Double-A Biloxi to replace the recently-promoted Luis Sardinas.

Trailing 5-1 after two frames, Taylor Jungmann took over to bring order to the ballgame as he would keep Round Rock off the scoreboard over the next two, giving the offense a chance to climb back into ballgame. The Sox would do just that in the fourth, tacking on two more runs on two hits. Ben Guez collected a leadoff single before being scored by Pete Orr on an RBI triple to the right-centerfield gap. Nevin Ashley followed with a deep fly ball to center, plating Orr with a sacrifice fly and cutting the Round Rock lead to 5-3 by inning's end.

Jungmann would run into a wall in the fifth, allowing five runs on five hits and a wild pitch. All of the runs would be scored with two outs before the big righty worked out of the frame by setting Smolinski down on strikes. Despite the rough inning, Jungmann would strike out the side with each batter going down swinging. Jungmann went two more scoreless frames, finishing his day having allowed five runs on ten hits and two walks while striking out five over five.

Eickhoff settled down after the two-run fourth, tossing three more scoreless innings en route to a strong seven inning performance in which he allowed just three runs on five hits while striking out one.

Colorado Springs would add one more run on the eighth as, after leading off with an infield single and advancing to second on a balk by Express reliever Francisco Mendoza, Rivera came around to score on a Shane Peterson RBI single. In stark contrast to Friday night's hit parade, Rivera and Peterson recorded the Sox only multi-hit games as they were outhit 17-7 by the relentless Round Rock attack in the 10-4 loss.

The Sky Sox will look to get back on track on Sunday as they prepare to play this same Express team in a day/night double-header. Tyler Thornburg (0-0, 2.55) takes on Round Rock right-hander Phil Klein (1-0, 1.69) in game one with first pitch set for 1:35 PM MDT at Security Service Field. Game two of the twin bill will begin approximately 30 minutes after the final out of game one is recorded. Nick Additon (1-2, 5.52) makes his way back to the starting rotation as he faces off with fellow lefty Jimmy Rodriguez (2-1, 0.51).

Sky Sox Boxscore

Bradley looked strong through one batter...

That's the quote of the year right there.

Many posters have commented on this AAA team being uninspiring to follow, and I concur as there's not just not many (really anyone) to draw a huge of amount of interest from prospect followers. Yadiel Rivera is a breath of fresh air from that perspective, he's one of the most interesting placements in the entire organization at this time.

TAMPA - After losing 6-4 in game one of a double-header, the Tampa Yankees took a walk-off win in a 2-1 final in nine innings against the Brevard County Manatees on Saturday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

The Manatees scored early against Gabriel Encinas in game one. Taylor Brennan doubled and advanced on a wild pitch before scoring on a single by Clint Coulter.

Tampa rallied for three runs in the third to take the lead. Mike Ford hit a two-out RBI single to score Tyler Wade. Mark Payton followed with a single and the runners advanced on a wild pitch by Brandon Woodruff (1-1). A walk by Michael O'Neill loaded the bases before Ericson Leonora hit a two-run single into left field.

The lead didn't last long for the T-Yanks as Brevard County collected three runs in the fourth. After a pair of singles, RHP Chad Taylor (0-1) relieved Encinas with two outs. Omar Garcia hit an RBI single and advanced on an errant throw by Payton in center. A walk by Chris McFarland loaded the bases before Brennan hit a ball threw the legs of Ty McFarland at first base, scoring a pair to give the Manatees a 4-3 lead.

Brevard County added insurance in the sixth against LHP Evan Rutckyj. Garcia reached on a bunt single and proceeded to steal second and third. Following a walk by McFarland, Garcia scored on a wild pitch by Rutckyj. An error by Abiatal Avelino then allowed Brennan to reach, scoring McFarland.

The T-Yanks brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the seventh after an RBI single by Mark Payton. RHP Trevor Seidenberger ended the Yankee threat by striking out the side for his second save of the year.

Connor Kendrick started game two for Tampa and struck out the first four batters he faced. The southpaw allowed a sacrifice fly by Ortega in the second. Kendrick was tagged for one run on four hits in five innings, walking a pair while tallying a season-high six strikeouts in a no-decision.

Derek Toadvine picked a good time to get his first hit as a Tampa Yankee. Avelino reached on an infield single in the third and advanced on a balk by RHP Clint Terry. With two outs, Toadvine hit a game-tying single to center.

The game went into extras, tied at 1-1. RHP Cale Coshow (1-0) made his Tampa Yankee debut and dealt a 1-2-3 inning in the eighth. Coshow surrendered a leadoff single in the ninth, but turned a 1-6-3 double play on a ball bunted back towards the mound.

Ford led off the Yankees ninth with a single against RHP Preston Gainey (1-1). Wade entered as a pinch runner for Ford and advanced on a hit-by-pitch to O'Neill. Payton laid down a bunt towards third and reached on an infield single, loading the bases with no outs. Leonora the stepped up and hit a game-winning sacrifice fly to center, scoring Wade for a 2-1 win.

Ford went 4-for-6 in the double-header, including a pair of walks, a double, a run and an RBI. Payton went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI in game one. Leonora picked up three RBI on the night.

The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. RHP Rookie Davis (2-3, 4.01 ERA) will get the start for the Yankees. RHP Javier Salas (2-2, 2.80) is set to start for the Manatees.

Walk-off Leaves Manatees With Doubleheader Split

Woodruff Earns First Win Of Season In Game One

Tampa, FL- In games that were played on opposite ends of the spectrum, the Brevard County Manatees (16-19) and Tampa Yankees (20-16) wound up splitting a series-opening doubleheader on Saturday night. The Manatees took Game One, 6-4 while the Yankees won Game Two on a walk-off sacrifice fly in extra innings, 2-1.

The Manatees took the lead right away in Game One as Taylor Brennan hit a one-out double off of the right field wall in the top of the first. He would then advance to third base when Gabe Encinas uncorked a wild pitch with Clint Coulter at the plate. Coulter would slap a base hit back up the middle that was stopped by Yankee shortstop Abiatal Avelino, but by the time he got to his feet, he had no play as Brennan had scored and Coulter was about to reach first.

After wasting a prime scoring opportunity in the bottom of the second, Tampa would come roaring back in the following frame, starting with a one-out walk to Tyler Wade. After a flyout by Miguel Andujar, Wade would take second with Mike Ford at bat. Ford promptly singled to left to tie the game and the wheels were in motion. Mark Payton followed with a single to left of his own and both runners would move up when Brandon Woodruff issued a wild pitch during Michael O’Neill’s at bat. After O’Neill walked, Ericson Leonora followed with a 2-run single to put the Yankees in front for the first time.

Brevard County responded immediately in their following turn at bat, which started with a Garrett Cooper single to third that gave Andujar trouble. Paul Eshleman and Steven Halcomb both flew out following Cooper’s hit but Angel Ortega would keep the inning alive with a base hit to left, knocking Encinas out of the game. Omar Garcia welcomed reliever Chad Taylor to the game with a floater into left center to make score Cooper and when Payton overthrew second base, Ortega and Garcia moved up. Following a Chris McFarland walk, it appeared Brennan had hit an inning-ending grounder to first but Yankee first baseman Ty McFarland misplayed the ball into right field, allowing two runs to score.

The Manatees would add two crucial insurance runs in the sixth. The rally would be keyed by Garcia, who bunted his way on for a hit against Evan Rutckyj. With McFarland at the plate, he would steal second and third on consecutive pitches, giving him 12 for the year. A McFarland walk would bring Brennan to the plate. Rutckyj threw a pitch inside that Kyle Higashioka could not get to and Garcia flew home to make it 5-3. The wild pitch also allowed McFarland to move up to second and he would come in moments later when Brennan hit one through the legs of Avelino at second.

Trevor Seidenberger came into close the ballgame in the bottom of the seventh, but it would not be without tension. The frame would start with a walk to Avelino. Following a strikeout of Wade, he would steal second with Miguel Andujar up. Andujar struck out but Ford worked a walk and Payton then singled to center to cut the lead to two. However, Seidenberger would strike O’Neill swinging to end the game.

The ‘Tees would take the early lead once again Game Two, this time in the second inning. Cooper was the catalyst once again, this time beating pitcher Conner Kendrick’s throw on a one-out dribbler. Cameron Garfield then ripped a double down the left field line to put two in scoring position, which was followed by a walk to Rafael Neda. Ortega followed with a sacrifice fly to right to bring Cooper home and give Brevard County the lead.

Tampa would level the game in the bottom of the third with a two-out rally. Avelino legged out a base hit to second and then moved up when Manatees starter Clint Terry was called for a balk. Derek Toadvine, who had just been added to the roster earlier in the day, slapped a base hit to center to score Avelino to the game at 1.

Terry (0-1, 2.55 ERA) would retire the last 10 hitters he faced after the Avelino single and save for that brief stumble in the third, he was sharp in making the spot start, giving up just the one run on four hits, while striking out four and walking none in six innings. He would wind up with a no-decision as the Manatees could not push a run across despite having multiple runners on base and in each of his final two innings on the mound.

After having the would-be winning run stranded at third to end the eighth against Mark Williams, the Yankees made sure the job was finished the following inning. The bottom of the ninth started with a single to right by Ford off of Preston Gainey, who then hit O’Neill as he was trying to bunt. Payton followed with a bunt just up the third base line that gave Eshleman no time to react. That loaded the bases for Leonora, who lifted a ball to center and when Garcia’s throw came up the first base line, Wade, who was serving as a pinch-runner for Ford, marched home to win it.

In addition to his two stolen bases, Garcia went three-for-six over the course of the two games. McFarland’s third inning single in Game One, extended his hitting streak to 11 games, the most by a Manatee this season. However, that would come to an end in Game Two. Cooper would go four-for-eight for the doubleheader after being held hitless the prior three games. Woodruff (1-1, 5.34 ERA) had the best outing of his professional career, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits and striking out three in six innings for his first win of the season. Seidenberger gave up his first run of the season in his ninth appearance but still recorded his second save of the season.

The Manatees will go for the series win on Sunday afternoon as they send RHP Javi Salas (2-2, 2.80 ERA) to the mound against RHP Rookie Davis (2-3, 4.01 ERA) at 1:00 P.M.

Reminder - Colorado Springs Gazette:

Milwaukee mandated that the Sky Sox use relievers for the first two innings before the regularly scheduled starter steps in so they could pitch later in the games. Most have hit their pitch count limit before or during the sixth inning. Colorado Springs will not do that during Sunday's doubleheader (seven-inning games).

ARTICLE LINK: What a good read via Tim Froberg of the Post-Crescent as the video interview with Timber Rattlers 3B Tucker Neuhaus from Friday's Link Report is an expanded Q&A in print today. Tim calls Neuhaus "a well-spoken 19-year-old mature beyond his years". Along with Neuhaus' production this spring, Tucker should now be on everyone's radar as one of their favorite farmhands to follow. No mention of it here, but via twitter, we know he is engaged to be married as well. Keep it rolling, young man.

one of the worst 3 a teams around can't see the sky soxs keeping them around past the 2 years.

I can't see the Sky Sox being picky as they are the last place any MLB team wants to put their minor league team. I sure hope the Brewers find another partner for 2017.
