Lind to Pirates?

Olney tweets about the Brewers are about as accurate as the Farmers Almanac is at predicting weather. I don't think they are about to pull the plug on Harrison after one bad month just after giving him a multi year deal and Alvarez isn't going anywhere. Now it could turn out that Harrison is a Pirate version of Bill Hall but they are going to give him more than this year before they come to that realization.

Besides other than pounding on the Brewers, Pirates have not looked exactly like contenders either and may well be sellers come July.

Glasnow or Taillon would look pretty good.

they will not trade either of those for Lind. Taillon is also coming off TJ surgery.

Lind to Houston makes more sense to me. Chris Carter is back to being a pumpkin, and even though they have 1B prospects, they can shift somebody to DH.

(Maybe Houston would even do Lind for Singleton)

Count me as a non-believer in Houston. They aren't going to continue this level of play. I really like Preston Tucker (already 10 HR in AAA) though, but I'm sure if they need a bat they'll bring him up.

I feel like we are all going to be very dissapointed with the return we get from Lind. It only took Estrada, who we were dumping regardless, to get him and it isn't like Lind was bad last year.

Amazing how badly not hitting lefties hurts your value...though he hasn't done too bad this year.

It's simple. If Lind continues to swat the ball like he has so far, we'll get a nice return. (the Estrada thing won't matter) If he slumps and plays lousy D, he'll play out his contract and we'll probably let Rogers have a try at it next season.

The getting him for a crappy player won't make a difference at all if he proves that he can stay healthy and hit like he can. He's been a big asset so far.

If we do trade Lind, after having no 1B worth a darn since Prince left (unless you count Hart as worth a darn...), you can bet there will be a rebuild in the near future.

Trading a guy who replaced a black hole for years is a sure sign that we are going to tear this thing down.

Or maybe they feel for a lot cheaper, Rogers can do just as well of a job. Or even Clark. Maybe they see the progress with those two and realize that they can also add a piece for the future and not drop off at all or much at all with the two in house guys?

Rogers and Clark cannot do the job that Lind does (at least offensively). Lind is one of the best hitters in baseball against right-handed pitching. Rogers/Clark might be a decent platoon while rebuilding. Rogers will not hit anywhere near Lind's level if exposed to hitting righties consistently.

Glassnow pulled for rt elbow injury and kingham oulled for him injury. Yikes.

The platoon and his age probably means you can't get an overall top 25 type prospect, but in an offense light era his platoon bat is pretty impressive. He should be worth a couple of a teams top 10 prospects with the length and reasonableness of the contract. It's not hard to find an OK lefty platoon partner to give a lot of value. I don't quite think Lind makes up the full 6 games we finished out of the wild card on last year's team, but we'd have been playing meaningful games into the last series.

Based on what? A career minor leaguer (Clark) and a guy with a .727 OPS in 22 AB this season can do the same job as arguably a top 5 if not the best splits hitter in baseball can do? This is what I mean by people becoming enthralled by the mythical "prospects." Rogers and Clark are only a couple years younger than Lind at this point, why are they going to get much better than what they are now?

Probably need to target an AL team where Lind could DH.

other way around, Kingham with elbow, Glassnow with hip. regardless, chalk those two up with Tailon coming off TJ in the last year and 3 of the Pirates top Pitching prospects all have blemishes.

Has nothing to do with a "mythical prospect" or whatever you'd like to name them. I think if you had a platoon of Clark and Rogers, you'd have very close to the production we are getting now. Would it be as good as Lind? No probably not, but close, maybe. And if it were getting rid of Lind for a prospect(s) in a rebuild, then I am all for it.

A platoon of those solid below average hitters would not even be REMOTELY close to Adam Lind's 168 OPS+...if you don't know a lot about OPS+ that is MVP like production. Even when Lind comes back down to earth(still all star type production) those two could only dream to be half of what Lind is.

How about using his career OPS+ rather than what he's done so far this season simply to manipulate the argument?

Sure you could use that...those two still won't get within 20 points.

I'd would be pretty comfortable calling him a 120 OPS+ hitter. He will be better than usual hitting at Miller Park...as he showed yesterday.

Agree. Lind was a really good pickup this offseason. If we decide to trade him, he should bring back more than a Marco Estrada in return.

But I will agree with Brew4U saying it has nothing to do with "Mythical prospect." Neither Rogers nor Clark are remotely close to being the type of guys we should look for if we were to trade any of our good trade chips. They are the type guys who you hope can play passable baseball during the down years while you wait for your more talented young guys to make their way to the majors.

I don't get the hate for prospects. Even an untrained eye can watch kids play and see that some of them are far better than their competition. That holds true in minor leagues as well. Sure, many will not make it as the competition gets tougher, and some will succumb to injury, but that happens to "proven" guys as well. The Brewer brass have tried to do everything they could to keep the MLB team as competitive as possible for an extended period. It's time to restock the farm. Prospects aren't "mythical," they're simply young baseball players. Some are better than others, so we want to try to get as many of those as possible to increase the odds that some will make an impact on the MLB roster some day.

Lind has been wonderful to watch this season, but he is only around through next year. If we aren't in the playoff hunt this year, and don't feel we will be competing for the playoffs next year, than it makes a lot of sense to trade him. He will get to play for a playoff-hopeful team, while the Brewers will get some guys that they hope will help them down the road. You may crash and burn on the trade, or you may get 12-18 years of MLB production for winning teams vs 1.5 years of production for losing teams. At this point, it's a risk worth taking.

There is no hate here, I don't hate them either. What I do hate however is how much they are OVERvalued by a good portion of the posters on this website. I get the impression at times that people think if we just unload Gomez, Lucroy, etc we're going to get these surefire automatic stud minor leaguers who will be all-stars in a few years.

No, the grass is in fact NOT always greener on the other side.

Then you truly don't understand what is being said, because I haven't witnessed maybe people overvaluing much of anything, so let me quickly sum it up one more time.

The Brewers need to cycle the roster, they are too old, have gotten too expensive, and don't have enough hitting or pitching for the immediate future. Hanging on to 2015 hoping for some miracle recovery to a playoff spot seems like a fools errand so why not make the best of a bad situation, acquiring as much talent as possible trying to lay the foundation of a new core to build around?

If only the Brewers had successfully built around a core of young players sometime in recent memory...
