Carlos Gomez Activated, Luis Jimenez DFA'd

Brewers Designate Luis Jimenez For Assignment

By Charlie Wilmoth [May 2, 2015 at 10:11am CDT]

The Brewers have announced that they’ve designated infielder Luis Jimenez for assignment. They also activated center fielder Carlos Gomez (hamstring) from the 15-day disabled list.

The Brewers claimed the 27-year-old Jimenez from the Angels in October. He made the team out of Spring Training but played infrequently, making only two starts and hitting just 1-for-15. Jimenez played second and third base for Milwaukee, although he’s mostly been a third baseman in recent years. He hit .286/.321/.505 in 501 plate appearances for Triple-A Salt Lake in 2014, generally in line with his minor-league track record of hitting for good average and power but drawing few walks.

this is the move I was hoping for. Rogers , Gomez and Herrera can play 3b, with Rogers and Herrera able to play OF.

I dont know why Jimenez was such a lock to make the team out of spring. Frankly, he was mediocre in AAA last year and did nothing too special in spring training.

Rogers and Hererra can handle 3b when Ramirez is out.

Hopefully we can make a trade and get Seager or Cecchini for the future.

Rogers made a couple bad throws in his one start at 3B, but sooner or later Roenicke needs to give the guy another chance. He can hit. Might not hurt to give him some starts in LF too.

He'll get plenty of playing time at 1B and 3B once Lind and Ramirez get traded.

Darn, I wish they had been able to give Jimenez a half a year to see what his bat is like. But it is obvious he is filler at best. So I guess he goes. But he probably had more upside than H Gomez and Herrera. I sure hope we do not see an average batting, stellar D playing over in Boston. Did we really give him a chance. I am not complaining. But it seems he should have been a little longer on the 'chance' list.

Gomez can play SS and has a better bat. He's way moe valuable to a team. Herrera is a switch hitter who actually hits. Plays 2B well but can also fill in all over the diamond. Jimenez was a crappy hitting, good fielding 3B. He won't be missed.

I worry about them putting Rogers at third, when the guy was a first baseman coming up. I would love to see Rogers/Clark man first and be backup corner outfielder.

Gomez I liked as he was such a highly rated prospect who never was injury free. If he is injury free, could you see him as an every day third baseman?

Should be interesting to see who they demote when Gennett is activated. I would imagine Gomez sticks with Jimenez now gone. Maybe send Rogers back down to continue to work at third, plus he has options.

Hopefully they'll make Gennett actually hit the ball in the minors before activating him. He stunk with us so far this season. He is no sure thing to continue to hit MLB pitching. Same with Davis. If he continues to stink, see ya and we play Parra.

Jimenez was an interesting pickup, and I get Milwaukee credit for at least looking at him. He had a rep as a good defensive player (which seems to be deserved), and he had some respectable numbers at AAA.

However, watching him you could see his bat speed was great. Combine that with a bit of a long swing, and he was simply over matched in the big leagues. That he didn't walk much didn't help him either.

Rogers is not a MLB 3B... If they want to play him as a 1B well then that's great.

Let's not overreact to Lind, he's a platoon player on what projects to be a below .500 team now and in the future, he's expendable. I'd rather move Lind for anything and have Rogers play 1B instead of trying to force a square peg into a round hole for the sake of keeping a platoon player around.

Because he stinks. Good fielder. Will never hit worth a darn. Looked like a fatter version of Segura.
