Crew's Peralta, Cubs' Lester vie for first victory

By Andrew Call / Special to MLB.com | 4/29/2015 5:14 PM ET

Cubs left-hander Jon Lester, signed to a six-year free-agent contract during the offseason, will look for his first win when he faces Milwaukee at Wrigley Field on Friday.

On the surface, the Brewers might be coming to town at a good time for Lester. Milwaukee has a .227 team batting average, with just two regulars, Adam Lind and Jean Segura, hitting better than .250.

The Brewers are also missing three injured starters -- Jonathan Lucroy, Carlos Gomez and Scooter Gennett -- though Gomez could be activated from the disabled list sometime this weekend.

Milwaukee will start right-hander Wily Peralta, who is also looking for his first win despite having walked just six batters in four starts covering 25 innings.

Things to know about this game:

• Lind, Milwaukee's top hitter so far this season with a .333 average, has hit .103 (3-for-29) against Lester.

• The only other Brewers batter with more than seven career at-bats against Lester is Gomez, who has gone 1-for-14 against the left-hander.

• Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo are both career .458 hitters (11-for-24) vs. Peralta, with a combined five doubles and seven home runs.

I hope we smack around Lester today!
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Is he off the DL today?!?

It'd sure be nice to make the Cubbies 12-11 before the weekend is over.

Calligraphy is so weird. I can barely even remember how to use cursive writing with some letters. Computers are great.

For the most part I only write in cursive. Just flows much easier without ever having to take the pen off the paper.
