Lohse, Cueto both look to continue recent success

By Andy Call / Special to MLB.com | 4/27/2015 11:00 PM ET

The Reds and Brewers continue their series Tuesday, with Cincinnati ace Johnny Cueto hoping for similar results from his most recent start -- also against Milwaukee. Cueto limited the Brewers to one run on five hits over eight innings last Wednesday and will be pitching on an extra day of rest due to Saturday's rainout.

Milwaukee will counter with Kyle Lohse, who also fared well in his last start -- also against the Reds. Lohse allowed just three hits over seven innings during a 4-2 Brewers win last Thursday in Miller Park.

Things to know about this game:

• The Brewers came into the series in fifth place in the National League's Central Division, the Reds in fourth place. Milwaukee has spent the last 16 days in last place.

• The Reds have won or tied 12 of the last 18 series vs. Milwaukee at Great American Ball Park.

• Milwaukee's starting pitchers had a combined 2.61 ERA over the previous five games before Monday, when Jimmy Nelson was charged with seven earned runs over 2 1/3 innings.

Sure would be nice to get a win today to set up a chance for a series win. I know that's asking a lot right now but this team needs some things to build on.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Wish there was a way to get Rogers in the lineup. LF? Lind in LF and Rogers at 1B? I don't know but the man can hit.

I wish we had Cueto. Fun to watch every 5 days.

Ok now it's ballgame. Going to be hard to trade Lohse like this.

I have no idea what to contribute except variations on a theme of amazement in this team's ugliness.

If (if?) they lose tonight, they're 15-41 since the start of last year's collapse. Of course, it's difficult to do the whole 'sell-off and reload' deal when the team's trade chips are performing so terribly.

This is why many here have bemoaned the team's strategy of "reload" year after year. It's not just about bad contracts for aging veterans and giving up draft picks. It's also about not selling high on the trade value of your decent players. After 2012 went to crap and we traded Greinke, the organization should've realized the window was closed and it was time to move on. The rebuild would've been much less painful then than it will be now.
