When do Lohse back to Cardinals rumors begin?

While no Brewer fan is shedding any tears over the Cardinals losing their ace for the season, anyone else see this as adding a possible suitor for Lohse?

Assuming of course that the Brewers don't suddenly do a 180 and miraculously get back in the race, one would think they could make an exception to their not dealing within the division rule if the Cards come up with a decent offer.

He would probably be all for it, but would they? It's not like he's lit the world on fire this season. And would they really want to give up something to a division opponent? I don't know, I just can't see it happening.

If Lohse can right the ship in the next couple starts and not repeat his first 3, possibly, we traded Axford to them for Blazek a couple years ago so not out of the question.

Oh and Wainwright said its time for the DH in the NL so pitchers don't get injured, the Cardinals wrote the MLB rule book, so Manfred better be making some amendments ASAP!!!

This is funny, the day before Wainwright got hurt, I called a good friend who is a Cardinals diehard, and told him Lohse would be their guy when someone gets hurt.

He laughed it off, saying they wouldn't need a pitcher this year - guess again.

If Lohse pitches well going forward, I think this makes great sense. It depends on how quickly St Louis decides to make a move, if they go the trade route, right now there aren't many teams who will be willing to trade someone they'd want. The longer they wait, the more teams they'll have to talk to.

I don't think that DM plays by the "don't deal within the division rule." Axford to the Cards in 2013 being one example.

He does if the Brewers are close to that team in the standings (they weren't in 2013 and its not looking good for 2015) or he was sending them a guy under control beyond that season. You wouldn't see him deal them Maldonado to the Cards if Yadi went down.

St Louis' farm system isn't as deep as it was a couple of years ago, but it's still solid, with some good pitching.

When talking about whether the Brewers would deal within the division, sending Lohse out this year isn't a big deal, because it's only for this year, perhaps the better question is - what would the Cardinals send here, knowing that player would be with the Brewers for a while?

My first thought is, the starting pitching prospects are what would interest the Brewers, but then, if I'm the Cardinals, do I want to send a young starter up here?

We need to hope Lohse pitches like his old self going forward, and we need to hope there is pressure on St Louis, or we're probably looking at the sort of return that doesn't scare the other guys.

Agreed Jericho. The Dodgers have some nice pieces in the minors and seem to want to build towards a championship NOW. This and all the money in the world drums up the idea of a trade with them. We need Lohse and Garza to do their part and pitch well so we can move them for some quality pieces.
