Lynn, Cardinals go for three-game sweep of Brewers

By Jenifer Langosch / MLB.com | 4/26/2015 1:08 AM ET

MILWAUKEE -- While the Cardinals seek to end a six-game road trip with their second sweep of the season, the Brewers will take the field on Sunday looking to find some traction as they prepare to hit the road. Milwaukee will enter Sunday's 1:10 p.m. CT game at Miller Park having lost 10 of its last 11 games. The Cardinals, in contrast, have won nine of their last 10.

Milwaukee's Mike Fiers will take the mound for the first time since becoming the first pitcher in more than four years to allow two grand slams in a game. Fiers has lost all three of his starts this season, including one to the Cardinals at Busch Stadium on April 16.

Lance Lynn draws the start for St. Louis and will be looking for a bit more run support to back him up. Though he's allowed one earned run in each of his three starts, he's received just five runs of support.

Things to know about the game:

• Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina is hopeful of returning to the lineup on Sunday, though that will [depend] upon how much the soreness in his right knee subsides before then. Molina hasn't played since being knocked out of the Friday's game after taking a fourth-inning foul tip off his right knee.

• With three of their Opening Day position players on the disabled list (second baseman Scooter Gennett, center fielder Carlos Gomez and catcher Jonathan Lucroy), the Brewers on Saturday used their 17th different starting lineup in the season's first 18 games. Roenicke has employed a different lineup in 15 consecutive games, and with a day game after a night game Sunday, the streak has the potential to continue.

"The constant change, I don't like that much," Roenicke said, "[although] some people have been very successful doing it that way. Joe Maddon has done it for years. Mike Scioscia does it all the time and has been pretty successful. I guess what it tells you is that if you're changing all the time, something isn't working."

• Matt Carpenter will carry a 12-game hitting streak and 23-game on-base streak into Sunday's game. Both streaks are the longest active streaks in the Majors.

Wow. We all know they've been struggling, but seeing 3-15 is sort of amazing. It's really hard to be out of the post-season by late April, but it looks like they've done it. Oh well, here's to playing spoiler to the Cardinals and Cubs.

Also,

Orlando Arcia has a 238 wRC+ in AA right now as a 20-year old.

Clint Coulter has a 211 wRC+ in A+ right now as a 21-year old.

No need to rush these guys now.

"Hey Ron, A-Ram got 3 knocks last night, looks like he might be turning things around."

"Don't worry Doug, I'll take of it."

"Good, good."

"Hey guys, just wanted to pop in to say you're doing a helluva job out there!"

"Thanks Mark!"

Good two strike approach for Davis there. Swing as hard as you can, try to pull it, on an up and away fastball. Hope we make a change in LF too. Trade him to some AL team.

Maybe put Braun back in left after trading him away? Just spit ballin here.

Clint Coulter is 3-for-3 today with a home run, now tied for Minors lead with six home runs.

He's at advanced A ball, maybe make the move to AA?

No not yet, why rush him? Is he going to play over Braun?

No but he could play with Braun eventually. Either Braun does 1B transition or goes back to LF. Davis is not a long term answer in the OF. Too many holes in his game.

Good job getting out of it but 48 pitches through 2 innings is not good.

Lind. Please Doug don't screw this up and try to sign him to a long term deal.

Looks to me like Lind needs a 8-9 year deal through his age 40 season at 15 million per year to me. Makes total sense.

I spit my drink out this morning when I saw Schafer in the 2 hole...that was great. Too bad this awful lineup is actually scoring runs on our nemesis Lance Lynn, maybe it needs to be this way full time lol.
