Gilbert Lara

Where is he playing this year? Can't find him on a Google search or the rosters.

When would he join our single A club and start that process?

I think you have to be 18 so in two years if he is 16 now. I know Arcia started when he was 18....till then Dominican league.

EDIT: I think he can go to rookie ball if they so choose.

He will play stateside (not the Dominican), for either Maryvale or Helena, I'd imagine Helena.

In the meantime, as noted in the Link Report Saturday, the kids not playing full-season ball still see nearly daily game action in the Arizona complexes.

There is no age requirement for any level of professional baseball. Raul Mondesi was 17 when he played in the SALL in 2013.

I put it at a 1% chance he is the DSL, they have him stateside, he did great in fall instructionals, he hit well this spring, his body is incredible advanced for his age, and he won't be challenged at all in the DSL. Him going over there to just mash isn't helping him develop

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

FORMERLY BrewCrewWS2008 and YoungGeezy don't even remember other names used

I think some people have crazy expectations for this kid. I could see him in the DL and maybe extended spring/rookie league next year if he can handle the DL this year.

When did he get hurt?

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

The club has already said he'll be 'stateside' this year. So like you say, hardly any chance he goes to DSL.

The above conversation is what happens when the Brewers are swept in the opening series and go 1-5 at home to start the season...Find someone else to get excited about. We are all anxiously awaiting Lara's professional start! When, when, when!? I can't wait to have another superstar in the makings to follow and brag about forthcoming to the Brewers ML team in the future. Really the beginnings of an exciting time that's been non-existent for Milw in the minors

Dominican League

Except it is actually the Dominican Summer League or DSL... he was just playing around. "Lighten up Francis".

  • 1 year later...

When thinking about Lara and his career to date, I am reminded of another, Eloy Jimenez.

Jimenez was a big bonus signing who immediately played stateside. He struggled mightily in the AZL and then improved a little in his second season in R+. The reports on Eloy were always mixed. Obviously the guy is huge and athletic but he seemed to be coasting sometimes and the results were not there.

Everything changed in 2016. MWL MVP. Futures game MVP if I remember correct. Now he will probably be a top 25 prospect in 2017, certainly by year end.

Way to early to be forgetting about Gilbert when you remember the unpredictable nature of development.

Enjoy the pie in the sky!
