OF Brett Phillips has been placed on the DL with Biloxi, retroactive to August 25. 1B Garrett Cooper has been transferred to Biloxi from Brevard County. He will join Biloxi for the game Friday night against the Mississippi Braves in Pearl, MS.

No word on the nature or severity of Phillips' injury.

Yes. Dave and Jerry were speculating on the Manatees' broadcast last night that Jorge Ortega exiting after 3 innings could mean a promotion for somebody to the Brewers and Jorge would take his place. Probably Davies to Milwaukee as MH speculates.

All reinstated from DL:

RHP Victor Diaz (arm issues while with Wisconsin, never learned the specifics, 6-day DL May 7th)

***

RHP Yosmer Leal

Posted on May 28th:

The Brewers have placed 19-year-old Venezuelan RHP Yosmer Leal on the Arizona roster for the purpose of medical rehab. Leal has had elbow surgery (Tommy John, we presume, but not confirmed), and will miss the 2015 season. The tall (6'4", 170 lb.) Leal has two Dominican Summer League seasons under his belt. Leal has the distinction of being the only "Yosmer" to ever play professional baseball.

LHP Joan de la Cruz

Posted on May 1st:

Joan De La Cruz, the 6'3", 175 lb. LHP still only 20 years old after pitching his age 17, 18 and 19 seasons in the Dominican Summer League, had Tommy John surgery last October, as per the Brewers media guide.

Too bad, as you'll see by the linked player page, the native Dominican had made nice strides in his 2014 season.

At least with the timing, De La Cruz will be about 20 months from surgery by the time the 2016 Maryvale and Helena seasons begin.

C Johel Atencio

Posted June 20th in our Helena / Maryvale thread --

Promising 18-year-old Panamanian catcher Johel Atencio is on the 7-day DL as well.

As per this twitter reply from Brewers Player Development, looks like a lengthy absence.

Hat tip R.C. Giese.

We never did see exactly what the injury was.

***

OF Johnny Davis

Torn ACL while with the Manatees, on DL as of April 21st.

We'll place similar posts here once players are officially activated from the full-season team DL's.

Miami - The Brewers announced Monday evening they are recalling infielder Luis Sardinas and purchasing the contract of catcher Nevin Ashley from Class AAA Colorado Springs, which finished its season with an 8-7 loss to New Orleans earlier in the day.

Sardinas, 22 who spent time with the Brewers earlier in the season, was batting .282 for the Sky Sox with a .320 OBP. He was acquired in late January as one of three players coming from Texas for pitcher Yovani Gallardo.

Ashley, 31, in his 10th minor-league season without a day in the majors, was hitting .306 with eight homers, 61 RBI and .816 OPS. The Brewers opted to purchase the contract of Ashley and add him to their 40-man roster rather than summon catcher Juan Centeno, who is on the 40-man roster. Centeno batted .295 in 51 games for the Sky Sox but had only one hit in 21 at-bats (.048) in 10 games with the Brewers earlier in the season.

The Brewers also opened spots on their 40-man roster by outrighting relievers Brandon Kintzler and Preston Guilmet to Colorado Springs, where they had been pitching. Kintzler once was a prominent member of the Brewers' bullpen but missed much of this season with a knee injury that landed him on the DL.

Guilmet was claimed off waivers from the Dodgers and appeared twice in relief for the Brewers in early August before being sent to Colorado Springs.

Those moves left the Brewers with 37 players on their 40-man roster with additions coming when Class AA Biloxi’s season is done. Biloxi begins the playoffs in the Southern League on Thursday.

One note (not from Tom, back to us) --

LHP Mike Strong and 1B/LF Matt Clark are the only two 40-man roster players from the Sky Sox who were not called up. Clark, who will be 29 in December, still has two more minor league option years. Tough when you're added to the 40-man for the first time late in your pro career.

Clark finished strong, with a .858 OPS and struck out less than 20% of his ABs. His OPS vs. lefties was .799, suggesting that he could be serviceable against MLB lefties and not have to be platooned. His OPS vs. righties was .895, suggesting that he could be a good platoon partner with Rogers if the Brewers move Lind and go that route. Not spectacular, but did well enough to warrant coming back in some fashion, be it on the 40-man or as a NRI with a ML spring training invite and the inside track on the AAA 1B job.

Tom Haudricourt noted on Tuesday that the Brewers are moving OF Michael Reed to the Biloxi roster for the playoffs, somewhat fitting since he contributed so much to the first-half championship.

No word yet on who will be losing their roster spot.

Will Brett Phillips bruised thumb/hand allow him to be activated for Game One? Pensacola is a National League affiliate (Reds), so no designated hitter. If Phillips is good to go, you've got Victor Roache, Tyrone Taylor, Reed and Phillips all as customary starters.

If Phillips is healthy, then two Shuckers will need to be dropped from the active roster.

Via the Biloxi Sun-Herald --

Biloxi will get some help in the lineup with Michael Reed rejoining the the Shuckers from Colorado Springs. He was promoted to Triple-A last month, where he batted .246. With Biloxi, Reed batted .278 with five homers and 49 RBIs in 313 at-bats.

The Shuckers also added an arm to its rotation in right-hander Jorge Ortega, who went 9-9 with a 2.41 ERA in 20 starts with Class-A Brevard.

Ortega will likely throw the fifth game of the series, if necessary.

As we could kind of see coming, LHP Hobbs Johnson likely won't be in the playoff rotation.

No word yet on roster drops or Brett Phillips' status.

Ouch..... That has to make Green feel good, He is already back down in AA as a former top prospect and mlb player in our system, they make playoffs, and then they send him down to get him off the roster.
