Minor League Transactions - 2015 Regular Season

Brewer Fanatic Staff

The Brewers announce the release of soon-to-be 26-year-old RHP Mark Williams from the Brevard roster. The moves makes room for RHP Johnny Hellweg.

Williams had been the most recently archived pregame interview by the Manatees Radio staff, as we had linked to on the 30th.

Williams was the rare independent league signing who had not had prior affiliated ball experience, also reaching the AA level within less than two years of that signing. He had been suspended for 50 games for an amphetamine violation last August, but obviously the Brewers thought enough of him to bring him back for 2015, so that became a non-factor this year, except for the delayed start to his season (May 1st with the Timber Rattlers).

Good luck to him in the future, baseball-wise and otherwise.

Via @BrewersPD:

LHP Brent Suter has been transferred to Col Springs. RHP Drew Gagnon has been transferred to Biloxi. Julio Mendez from DSL to AZL Brewers.

Nice bump for the Harvard product Suter.

As for Mendez, the Venezuelan in his 18-year-old season has split his time between 3B and 2B this season, with some shortstop sprinkled in, while posting a .260/.341/.312 line. Mendez is the first DSL'er to make the stateside jump since extended spring training.

It hasn't translated into big league stints yet (hello, Orlando Arcia), but just in an overall sense, the percentage of prospects the Brewers sign from their non-Dominican Latin locales (such Venezuela and Panama) who become prospects to watch, is much higher than the percentage for their Dominican signees.

According to my local paper, Donnie Hissa (round 21 pick) will be headed to Helena.

http://www.apg-wi.com/ashland_daily_press/sports/hissa-drafted-by-brewers/article_780464f8-1e49-54c7-b394-93e618bad03b.html

He's a long shot, but I hope that he makes it to the T-Rats at the very least. It's fun to have a Wisconsin kid drafted by the Crew. I know his aunt quite well and I can tell you that there are many people up here in the woodwork of NW Wisconsin who will be cheering for Donnie.

Unfortunately for this fan and the Hissa's, the Brewers announced Donnie's release today.

Listed at 6'7", 240, Hissa's pro career (with Milwaukee, at least) will consist of 25 games in relief over two seasons, all with Helena, and the numbers weren't pretty (MiLB Player Page), but the opportunity was there, hope it was enjoyed, and good luck to him in the future.

Sky Sox were already carrying just 11 position players (and 14 pitchers!) before this --

@BrewersPD tweet: RHP Brandon Kintzler has been reinstated from the 15-day disabled list and optioned to Triple-A @skysox.

***

Once he officially arrives, the Sky Sox will need to drop a pitcher in some manner.

Final: AZL Brewers 6, AZL White Sox 1

A-Crew now 8-7, one game out of first place (two games in the loss column)...

Maryvale Box Score

19-year-old 9th round RHP Karsen Lindell and 22-year-old undrafted LHP Shawn Clowers combined to walk only one and strike out nine in one of the prettiest combined efforts of the Brewers' organizational year.

Wonderfully productive evening for CF Trent Clark, LF Demi Orimoloye, DH Juan Ortiz, SS Gilbert Lara, RF Yerald Martinez, and IF Jorge Quiterio -- enjoy the box score link!

Maryvale Game Log

Another eventful night, good and bad, on the A-Crew basepaths --

BASERUNNING

SB: Martinez, Y (4, 2nd base off Guerrero, Y/Alfaro), Clark (14, 3rd base off Guerrero, Y/Alfaro), Orimoloye, D 2 (19, 2nd base off Guerrero, Y/Alfaro, 3rd base off Done/Cooper).

CS: Orimoloye, D 2 (6, 3rd base by Guerrero, Y/Alfaro, 2nd base by McWilliams/Cooper), Quiterio (2, 3rd base by Rocha, J/Cooper).

***

First baseman Tyrone Perry left the game after grounding out in the 6th.

Read Demi Orimoloye's tweet.

I remember we read about this at draft time.

Playing his final game tonight with AZ #Brewers before joining the #JNT tomorrow, OF @DemiOrimoloye16 went 3/4 with 2 RBI and 2 SB. #TeamC

Off to Japan with the Canadian Junior National Team, but as we all know, nothing is "junior" about Demi.

There are 13 regular season games remaining for the A-Crew, plus hopefully a playoff game or two with a second half title (at most, the AZL playoffs consist of two single-elimination playoff games).

RHP Tim Dillard was placed on the Sky Sox Temporary Inactive List (again) on Thursday, to make room for RHP Brandon Kintzler.

Due to today's call-up of RHP David Goforth (due to Michael Blazek's fractured right hand), one would think that Dillard would then immediately be activated again, we'll see.

The Sky Sox currently have a 13-11 pitcher/position player split, it would go back to 14-11 if Dillard (or another pitcher) comes back.

Via @BrewersPD:

Timber Rattler moves - LHP Jarrett Martin to the DL, LHP David Carver released, RHP Zach Cooper and LHP Tyler Linehan activated from the DL.

Bummer for Martin (on his 26th birthday yet), especially if it's still the shoulder he's been rehabbing since January surgery.

LHP David Carver, 23, was the Brewers' 35th round pick in 2014 out of Lamar University. After getting a 2015 mid-season bump from Helena to Wisconsin, he posted a WHIP over 2.00 in five Timber Rattler appearances (four starts). Good luck to @carvingemup (awesome Twitter handle) in the future.

RHP David Goforth's recall to Milwaukee opened up a AAA roster spot.

Via the Manatees, we learn --

C Robinzon Diaz has been transferred from Brevard County to Colorado Springs.

C Paul Eshleman has been reinstated from the Brevard County DL.

Technically not transactions, but from Saturday's Link Report --

Because the rookie leagues have expanded rosters, they usually don't make use of disabled lists, so sometimes we can miss when a player has been absent.

19-year-old switch-hitting Maryvale infielder Daniel Leonardo is one such player, as he's been idle since July 26th.

We were loving the work of undrafted RHP Aaron Myers in Maryvale, but he last pitched (and pitched well) back on July 27th.

Another non-drafted RHP, Evan Parker, last worked on July 25th.

If you folks become aware of any players in a similar situation that we have not commented on, please bring it to everyone's attention, thanks.

At Colorado Springs yesterday (Sunday), two minor league free agents at season's end (RHP's Tim Dillard and Ariel Pena) swapped places on the Temp Inactive List, with Dillard now on the active roster again.

Dillard has been "shipped out" and back seven times this season, although technically never leaving the Sky Sox traveling party and clubhouse.

Via Brewers Player Development --

Brandon Macias has been transferred to Colorado Springs; Yadiel Riverahas been transferred to Biloxi.

***

Rivera has posted miserable AAA numbers after a promising Sky Sox start. So he gets to go back and take part in the playoffs, and the 26-year-old Macias nets more time at Colorado Springs.

RHP Ariel Pena is currently on the Temp Inactive List, so the Sky Sox will continue their roster gyrations again before Friday's game.

With Domingo Santana's recall, the Sky Sox are at 25 again (14 pitchers, 11 position players, including three catchers and only three true OF's -- Reed, Long, and Wren -- but Orr and Clark have played some left field).

From a July 21st audio interview Matt Erickson gave Chris Mehring --

Dustin DeMuth - Done for the year with a spiral fracture in his hand as noted in the Transaction Thread earlier this week.

Francisco Castillo - Fractured the thumb on his glove hand and has remained with the team working hard, he's very close to returning.

Brandon Diaz - As noted in Monday's LR Diaz was hit by a pitch and then tagged hard on the hip after his steal of 2nd. Diaz is day to day.

So it's been quite a lengthy "day-to-day".

Interesting roster moves, passed along via Dustin in Helena:

INF Franly Mallen has been transferred from the DSL Brewers to Helena.

(This will be the stateside debut for the 18-year-old middle infielder.)

SS Jake Gatewood and 1B David Denson have been transferred from Helena to Wisconsin.

Brewers announced four releases --

Veteran LHP Brent Leach, 32, missed most of 2015 and had just completed an injury rehab in Maryvale. This was Leach's 3rd year in the Brewer chain, with 2014 being his most effective.

Three DSL Brewers were released upon the end of the summer season Saturday.

LHP Isaac Silva, 22, posted a scary WHIP of 3.00 in 15 relief outings this summer. He had spent the prior three seasons in the Cardinals' organization, including stateside in '13-'14.

RHP Yan De La Cruz, 20, was a free agent signing this spring after two seasons on the island in the Phillies system.

Catcher Dilson Fernandez, 21, saw action in 49 games over the past two DSL seasons.
