RR said it was lower than abdominal. He didn't seem to be very concerned about it. My guess is that any little tweak while being down by 10 was enough of an excuse to pull him.

RR never seems to be concerned about much of anything, to be honest.

What an absolute joke, from this news to the absolute dumpsterfire that went on down at Miller Park in general. It's fun to overreact to game 1 of 162, but THIS is how the team comes out firing in response to what went down last year? Kendrick is a #5 starter at best on most teams.

Where's all the folks that thought Parra makes too much money now? He's going to be in use early and often for us this year.

Yeah, with Braun's history, Gomez's aggressive play and a still unproven Davis... all of whom are right-handed, I could never understand the somewhat intense desire to see Parra traded. If we are going to make a playoff run, he will play a big role in it, and if not, he should be easy to trade at the deadline.

As to Braun, hopefully this is just a small thing and he was only pulled as a precaution in a blowout. My hopes for the year have risen a bit this spring with the thought that his thumb is healed and he will be back to his old self. Of course, the occasional injured ribcage muscle is "his old self." :-)

Thank goodness I was on the road yesterday and I couldn't watch that trainwreck. Horrible game all the way around and then Braun gets hurt in his usual routine play type fashion. That guy is so frickin brittle, he isn't tearing ACL's like good normal injury prone people, he gets to had nagging injuries start on Day #1 of the frickin season right after having a nagging injury for the last 2 seasons.

Hopefully it is just a couple of days and he is back; but I am not holding my breath. The Brewers need him this year.

There is no way they contend replacing Braun in the lineup with Parra or Davis in the lineup with Parra or Gomez in the lineup with Parra. The offensive drop off is steep. Replacing Parra on the other hand with a cheaper option is pretty simple. Cubs just DFA'd Ryan Sweeney who's pretty much the same guy as Parra. Outfielders who can hit you .260 with very little power and some defensive skills aren't worth what they are paying Parra.

Parra career: .274/.326/.395 .720 OPS. Brewers paying him $6.24 million for one year. Ryan Sweeney career: .276/.333/.380 .713 OPS. Cubs on the hook for $2 million including $500K buyout, unless he gets claimed.

Astros just released another OF with similar skill set as Parra in Alex Presley (.259/.299/.395), who's set to earn $1 million this year.

I still thinking it might be the best to put him on the 15 Day Dl and let it heal properly.

It depends on the injury. If it is the dreaded oblique, then you're probably right. If he was just taken out because it was a 10-run blowout, and it's nothing, then he could be in the lineup today. As he said in his quote, let him sleep on it and see where it's at this morning. If it's still there, get an MRI and make a determination. You don't want to miss 15 days of your star player if one day's rest would do the trick, but you also don't want to turn it into something that nags him all year or becomes a more serious injury.

I am more and more convinced that Braun is a PED guy and that's that. His body cant recover anymore.

I was such a HUGE fan of the guy but its clear he isn't a star player anymore.

That's a bold statement right there.

There's a reason why Sweeney and Presley can't stay on a ML Roster. Hell, Presley couldn't even stay on the Twins, despite the black hole in the OF they have.

Parra is a 3-5 WAR player if he is full time. When is the last time you could say that about Ryan Braun? Oh wait......they were all pre-PEDs years. And he hasn't shown it since because he's forever injured. Is he the greatest hitter in the league? No, but his ability to play 3 OF positions well, and supposedly able to play 1B makes him invaluable to this team of old and/or injury prone players. We don't need his offense, we're pretty good at that. You can never have enough defense.

We need his offense in the sense that he's a player who will take a pitch or two and work a count and draw some walks. Adam Lind is a welcome addition in that sense. The free swinging over-reliance on HR's thing is a thing of the past. The game has passed the Brewers front office by, and if they now realize it they are too far behind to catch up.

In regards to Braun: I think he'll be OK

This injury is just phase 1 of his plan to have a built in excuse when he finishes the year at .270 with 19 HRs and 72 RBIs, vanishing again in the second half. "Well, I was never quite able to get it going after the nagging intercostal injury early in the year..."

I've never really heard Ryan Braun make excuses for anything, I think that may be a bit harsh...

I too was hurt that Braun would go to the lengths he did to lie but the comments towards him after this has played out has only made my support for him to grow. He's nowhere near perfect as a person but neither am I. We are always so quick to judge athletes when they do wrong but who knows what you would do if you were in their shoes. I always tell my history students that it is easy for us to look back on history and say, well we wouldn't of done or said that(covering slavery right now). But it is a lot easier said than done.
