It's Opening Day! April 6th, 2015.

Invader3K

Hip-hip-hooray, it's Opening Day! Two teams played last night, but no one cares about that...today the Brewers are back at Miller Park, and all is right with the world.

Personally, I will not be there today due to a real life obligation getting in the way, but let's use this thread for people to post about Opening Day.

Also, if you're going to Miller Park today, have fun but be safe.

Love opening day! Used to go every year, but stopped about 20 or so years ago when I was in my late 20's. Got tired of some of the antics of people at opening day (so now I always go to the 2nd game), but I still enjoy the day and what it means. New hope, the official start of spring (as far as I'm concerned), warmer weather on the way, and most importantly, the start of the baseball season!

Enjoy watching all the coverage on the morning news programs while I'm eating breakfast and getting ready to got to work and enjoy listening to AM620 in the morning as they have coverage from Miller Park with various interviews (usually Uecker, Attanasio, etc). I always take a half day on opening day to go home and watch the game (and to avoid the traffic during rush hour!). Love driving by the stadium on my way home, opening the car windows, and smelling all the opening day tailgate smells. Opening day has always been the equivalent to a national holiday in my world. This year, the Badgers being in the championship game is just frosting on the cake for what was already a great day!

Play Ball!!

Where is today's game thread?

Happy opening day to all. Showing the Field of Dreams - They Will Come speech to my 8th grade US History classes today. Trying to inspire more fans down here in New Mexico to love the brew crew!

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Not that anyone hasn't, but please keep specific game related discussion confined to that thread. This thread is intended for general Opening Day experiences, etc.

Edit: Just made today's IGT a "global" topic, so it should be easier for everyone to find, hopefully.

Things could always be worse; you could be a Cubs fan:

It's one thing when your baseball team is an excuse to go to the ballpark and drink, but opening day seems to be everybody's excuse to do just that. I went to opening day once when I was in college, and pretty much decided there are 80 (-plus) other games on the schedule I can go to.

I don't know if it was any worse but when the 4th inning comes around and your team is down 10-0 it becomes a miserable experience. The ones that were pounding it early are starting to pass out but there are still loud drunks, the police started to kick out more people and nobody is into the game because the Brewers are down by so much. I usually stick it out to the end but I couldn't take it anymore around the 7th and got out of there before the mass exodus and the fights in the parking lot.

I think the extra drinking (even the family sections have no no-drinking rule for opening day) plus the on-field results - particularly getting down really early - made for enough misery to cancel out, if not outweigh, the sheer joy of being back at Miller Park for a ball game.

For me, Monday was the second opening day in a row where by mid-game, I found myself looking forward to our first "normal" game (and last year they won the opener, so that sentiment isn't just related to losing). By the end of opening day 2015, I was thinking more seriously of returning to our prior-years pattern of making the Brewers' second home game our opening day.

So I guess it did feel like more than "more of the same," to address Invader's specific question.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I was there on Monday as well and was very fortunate to sit in a section where people were not rude or out of control. The lines for the bathroom were awful however, and it was definitely nice to be back in the normalcy of Tuesday night instead of the chaos of Monday.

Nothing out of the ordinary in my Opening Day experience.

I had seats in 423 and there was nothing remotely close to any rowdiness around me.

Tailgated with a group in the Uecker lot. As far as the bathrooms, my friend brings a homemade toilet. Lines for the 3 porta potties by us were consistently 50 people deep for 3 hours.

Why can't they get more porta potties out there? It's crazy. Unless they are so smart that they do it to slow people's alcohol intake down.....

It seemed like for a while, they were making an effort to provide more porta potties, but then quickly reverted back to having less. Maybe they decided it was a needless extra expense? Some of those lines get incredibly ridiculous, and it's not just Opening Day, either.

I quit doing opening day about 3 years ago. The potential for stupid decisions to be made was high, and Im not about to jeopardize my career due to a lapse in judgment. Besides, I deal with drunks enough at work, its nice having a break from it for once
