Negatives: Bad contract has 2 years and $24 million remaining. Coming off a bad year: .244/.287/.367, 10 HR, 60 RBI. 33 years old. Didn't have great spring.

 

Positives: Primarily a 2B but has played 40+ games at 3B. Has flashed enough power to profile at 3B, even if down from peak power years. Has shown ability to bounce back from bad seasons. Followed up .665 and .655 in 2010 and 2011 with .878 and .818 in 2012 and 2013. Even in "bad" year in 2014, still had 39 extra base hits the exact same number as Aramis Ramirez in 2014. Provides veteran off the bench or as semi regular.

 

Projected role if a Brewer: basically replace Luis Jimenez as extra guy floating between 3B, 2B and 1B and be primary RH pinch hitter. Probably at least 300 PA available for 2015, more if injuries dictate. Potential to be everyday 3B in 2016.

 

I would think Arizona would need to pick up at least $15 million of that remaining deal. Not advocating but food for thought.
