MLB Network issues

jerichoholicninja
I've got Charter and since they started showing ST games I haven't been able to watch MLB Network. When I go to the channel it brings up a blue screen that says "Not Authorized". Now the channels I don't get it then asks me if I would like to upgrade but with MLB Network it doesn't. The first time it happened was when I was trying to watch the Brewers but they were on FSN at the same time so I just figured it was blacked out on MLBN like it did when I had Dish but now it does it all the time.

I think Charter moved MLB Network to a different subscription package. I would call Charter customer service to confirm.

Have you tried resetting the box?

Tried that.

I hope not. The other channels we don't get ask me if I want to upgrade when I go to them but MLB Network doesn't. If I call and make a big enough scene will they just give it to me for free?

I would just call and see what's up. I am still getting it fine, so maybe it's just possibly an issue with your cable box? They should be able to diagnose it over the phone for you.

I literally just signed up for Charter three weeks ago. I called them to let them know how upset I was and they didn't seem to care. I said I would be cancelling and they actually said "Well you just signed up and paid for the installation fee". If you call, I would be curious to see if you get any better treatment than I did.

Charter did move MLBN to "Digi Tier 1" earlier this month. The bill we got in (I think) January had a notice saying this would happen. It's $10/month more to add that tier and I am still pondering whether I want to do that. The cable account is in my name so I figure I get to make the final decision.

This page includes a link to an out-of-date Digi Tier 1 lineup (out of date since it doesn't show MLBN). There are times we've missed out on Badger sports because they were on ESPNU, so I wouldn't mind having access to that.

At least Charter waited until after the 30 games in 30 days Brewers segment aired.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Finally got around to calling Charter this morning. Told them how disappointed I was that I was losing MLB Network and getting charged more (our promotional offer just ended) and said I would like to pay less since I'm getting less and was basically told "too bad so sad".

Charter is the worst for customer service. Their product is really really good but treat people terribly. Their model is to basically jack up people's rates and hope they don't notice. If they do notice, force them to call and complain their way into a lower price while fighting them the whole way. I just don't get cable TV, they're in the process of dying and instead of being super customer friendly and lowering costs to stay alive they're doing the opposite. Essentially forcing more and more people to ditch cable and go to watching everything online instead. Live sports is really the only reason to actually need cable, once all of that is streaming, cable will die not long after.

Well I survived last year without MLB Network but I just spent a night at a hotel that had it and couldn't turn it off. Like I posted above, customer service didn't care last year when I called to complain. I'm considering calling again and see if they change their tune.

Good luck. I have charter and always tell myself I am going to leave them...and I never do. I truly hate talking with them.
