Gilbert Lara #1?

We still know nothing about the guy. Sure there are some reports, but the accuracy is questionable. The fact he is likely not to stick at SS hurts his value a little bit too.

If ranking purely based on ceilings I could see him #2 behind Monte Harrison in my opinion.

True, I don't necessarily expect anyone else to rank him #1 (I just wanted to make/post that gif :laughing )

My rationale is as follows: if I was in Las Vegas and had to put money on a Brewers prospect who, looking back ten years from now, will have won an MVP or Cy Young (I mean a boom-or-nothing scenario; not [Likely WAR] * [Probability of reaching it]), I would put my money on Lara, followed by Medeiros and Harrison.

Notes: I did not vote for anybody that will be 27 during the season, just a personal preference. Would have voted Sardinas 3 if he was eligible. Was more favorable to players with high on base as the Brewers could really use more people like that. Really like Denson a lot and tempted to put him even higher but I will wait one more year and see how he does this year. Will look forward to reading the AA box scores every morning, a lot of potential there.

1. C/1B/OF Clint Coulter - love the impact bat. Not sure moving him from catcher was a good idea

2. SS/3B Gilbert Lara - The sky is the limit

3. CF Tyrone Taylor - CF of the future, or trade bait?

4. SS Orlando Arcia - Good field, but can he hit in the majors?

5. RHP Taylor Jungmann - Could be a regular in the rotation in 2015, depending on trades.

6. RHP Tyler Cravy - Very good half-season, can he recover?

7. RHP Corey Kneibel - Could be the closer for the Crew in 2016

8. OF Michael Ratterree - A 3TO offensive profile.

9. CF Monte Harrison - Speed and OBP - the next great Brewers leadoff hitter.

10. RHP Tyler Wagner - Dominating numbers at Brevard County

11. 3B/1B Jason Rogers - Good power bat.

12. LHP Jed Bradley - could work his way to the rotation in 2017

13. C Greg McCall - Probably the best catching prospect in the Brewers system outside Coulter

14. OF Joantgel Segovia - Hits for average, has superb plate discipline. Will we see power?

15. SS/2B Yadiel Rivera - OPS improved from A+ to AA - could he be a utility player?

16. 1B Nick Ramirez - Could he be an option at 1b?

17. OF Victor Roache - A very awesome power bat, but can he put it together?

18. LHP Joan de la Cruz - Left-handed power arm - can he move up the system quick enough?

19. RHP Mark Williams - Could be dominating bullpen arm for the Brewers.

20. 3B/1B Taylor Smith-Brennan - Another possible 3TO bat that plays third.

21. RHP David Goforth - Possible bullpen help - notched 27 saves at AA

22. OF/IF Matt Long - Good OBP skills, decent pop, and speed could make him interesting utility player for the Brewers despite age.

23. 2B Christopher McFarland - Speedy second baseman who can make contact.

24. C Adam Weisenburger - Superb plate discipline, threw out 39% of baserunners.

25. IF Hector Gomez - Could help as a utility infielder

Some other notes:

* Cameron Garfield's not on my top 25 because a .572 OPS at Brevard County tells me his bat won't cut it in the majors. I'd have preferred to see the Brewers trade him instead of Shawn Zarraga, whose bat and OBP skills offered much more, while he also threw out 34% of baserunners trying to steal.

* Jorge Lopez also didn't rate compared to other prospects. I am just not impressed with a 4.59 ERA at Brevard County.

* D'Vontrey Richardson looks like he's flamed out.

* Kyle Wren has speed, but not enough OBP skills for me.

* Jake Gatewood's bat has not impressed me. A .528 OPS at the Arizona Rookie League is just not a good sign.

Additional thoughts:

* Matt Long could be a steal. Seems to have a good bat, and can play all three outfield positions and second base. Honestly, why NOT trade Parra for some help elsewhere, and use Long as the 4th OF?

* Tyler Cravy and Tyler Wagner - the Tylers - could be some dominating prospects as starting pitchers, given their numbers.

* Clint Coulter's move from catcher could be a mistake. With Cameron Garfield flaming out, it means that the Crew needs to either keep Lucroy behind the plate, or look hard for another option. Between his move and trading Shawn Zarraga, the Brewers have gutted their depth at catcher, IMO.

* Shortstop is a worry. I'm inclined to keep Lara at short, especially if his bat is as good as the scouting reports say.

* Ratterree, Roache, and Smith-Brennan all look like 3TO-type bats.

* Arcia and Yadiel Rivera are short-term options for shortstop... come 2016, the Brewers may need to be willing to put one of them there is Segura doesn't rebound.

BALLOT EDIT: Was unaware Kentrail Davis was gone.

4. SS Orlando Arcia - Good field, but can he hit in the majors?

^^What does that even mean? Don't we ask that about every prospect?

You forgot Kodi Medeiros. I guess you could just think he isn't a Top 25 prospect....but I am really hoping you just forgot him since your list is loaded with people you think are utility infielders

Some other notes:

* Jake Gatewood's bat has not impressed me. A .528 OPS at the Arizona Rookie League is just not a good sign.

I am not impressed you took a Top 10 area prospect with a very high ceiling and dropped him out of your Top 25 over 39 at-bats.

Kodi Medeiros had 9 appearances and posted a 7+ ERA. Not quite enough for a spot on my ballot. As for Gatewood, he had over 200 ABs. I'm willing to be convinced, but I'd like to see more from a first-round pick than a .528 OPS at rookie ball.

Right now, based on their numbers, I don't think they earned a spot on my 25-player ballot for this spring. I'd be happy if they proved me wrong.

I wouldn't worry about individual ballots as the more people that vote the less one ballot matters and the rankings are taken as a whole and overall it will be a good listing representative of the entire system. With that said, Kentrail Davis isn't in the Brewers system anymore so he should probably be replaced.

Just missed: Jorge Lopez, Hobbs Johnson, Tommy Toledo, Jacob Barnes, Eric Marzec, Martin Viramontes, David Goforth, Damien Magnifico, Johnny Davis, and Yadiel Rivera.

1. Tyrone Taylor - I watched Tyrone grow leaps and bounds in WI, he just lacked consistency. He'll continue to improve and I look forward to his AA campaign.

2. Orlando Arcia - Orlando is the only Brewer prospect to come through WI in recent memory that could make contact with a pitcher's pitch and put it in play. The trumpets continue to blare for him, he's similar to Alcides Escobar in many ways, but he'll be more of an offensive threat.

3. Monte Harrison - I had the Pirates taking Monte in the first round of our mock draft last year, thank god he slipped to our 2nd round pick, I hope to watch him in WI this year.

4. Clint Coulter - Finally moved off C, didn't look good at 3rd in instructs but took to the OF. He's got legit 25-30HR power if he can make enough contact. He'll be fine in RF, I do have some long term concerns about his swing.

5. Wei-Chung Wang - We desperately need a lefty who can at least be a #3, I think he is one of the organization's best moves in a long time.

6. Gilbert Lara - Encouraging reports this fall out of AZ, it will be interesting to see what level he starts at and where he plays in the field.

7. Devin Williams - has made incremental improvements, now it's time to a take jump.

8. Taylor Williams - his 2 pitch mix was more than the MWL could handle, I was hoping he would dominate BC in that short stint and start this season in AA. His command can come and go rather quickly from inning to inning, but he's a legit starting pitcher at this time.

9. Taylor Jungmann - My thoughts on him have been well chronicled over the years, made a huge jump last season.

10. Joantgel Segovia - 17 year olds that hit .384 catch my attention regardless of league.

11. David Denson - I probably didn't do Denson justice in the Link Reports, like Arcia before him, but David impressed me. He made tremendous strides both in the field and at the plate, don't be fooled by his .741 OPS on the season. The light bulb went on in May and then he hurt himself and pressed some when he finally got back in July. If I had to pick a break out player for 2015 he'd be my pick.

12. Tyler Wagner - I think he's a bit better than prospect gurus have given him credit for, I see a pretty solid #3.

13. Kodi Medeiros - Kodi didn't set the world on fire out of the gate and I'm worried some about his command, but his stuff was plenty filthy as his K/9 was still 13.5.

14. Jason Rogers - Solid yet unspectacular, Jason just keeps hitting, I don't believe he's a 3B, but why not the RH part of a 1B platoon?

15. Tyler Cravy - My boy... please be healthy and effective this year Tyler.

16. Michael Strong - I have an affinity for lefties, simply because I'm one myself, but I think Michael could be a decent enough MLB reliever.

17. Sthervin Matos - Broke out in Helena, his D needs quite a bit of work from what I saw in WI, but I saw enough to be intrigued.

18. Miguel Diaz - He's the best sleeper pitching prospect we have in the system.

19. Gian Rizzo - Doesn't throw as hard as I had hoped but had a nice bounce back season as a 20 year old in AZ. He didn't get to start a single game last year but put up 2.22 ERA, .776 WHIP, 1.0 BB/9, and 10.2 SO/9.... those are video game numbers.

20. Jacob Gatewood - Lots of potential, lots of contact issues, he was the most difficult player for me to place.

21. Chris McFarland - Chris looked the part last season in WI. He defense improved though he's still shakey on the backhand and his offense took a significant step up.

22. Dustin Demuth - Made it to WI in his first season but struggled in pretty much every facet once he got there. I'm curious to see how he responds this season.

23. Juan Ortiz - I don't really have a good justification for this placement, Ortiz is just someone who intrigues me at this point in time. He got a surprise bump to AZ and held his own, this is probably a make or break year for him.

24. Gregory Munoz - Just 2 years in the system and bumped all the way to the Pioneer League for his second season where he held his own. Not much power and appears to be more of 2B but color me intrigued.

25. Joan De La Cruz - Another player I don't have much justification for other than he's made incremental improvement and I'm intrigued, he should be state side for 2015.

Sorry, hadn't heard he was gone. Real life had me busy.

Replaced him with Segovia, and making some adjustments.

That's really it for me. Incompletes on the remaining 7 voting for one or the other doesn't do them justice as #19 and #25 are just equal prospects. One shouldn't get 6points and the other 1 when they are equal.

As to rankings. Yeah, I'm down on Tyrone Taylor. Looks to be a defensive wizard/ potential .280+ hitter but with 0 pop. So we'll have a defensive CF with .280/.335/.340 OPS defensive CF. Is .675-.710OPS really worth the defensive specialist? I think if he tries for more power, he'll barely bat .245 with an under .300OB making him even worse. He'll be great trade-bait when it happens I hope for a nice return. His stock won't be going any higher than it is.

Kodi Medeiros. Filthy Slider, he has to learn to control a little bit more, but really a changeup pitch with his Fastball to go with that Slider will fool more than enough hitters. He can be an 11k/9 Starting Pitcher with his stuff. He stands to be #1 in this ranking potentially.

Lara I rank highly now due to video making me think of ARod in his swing. That's a boom selection if remotely true.

Knebel. He's already made it to the Big Leagues. He's a potential fit in as a Closer, and to groom that would be extraordinary for this organization.

Jungmann is making me a believer. His height(like Nelson) will mean a lot of ground balls for a hitters park. That's a plus if that happens. Even as a long term fit as a #5 SP.

Gatewood makes 9 because of the added muscle, maybe his growth/maturity in his body will equal huge gains? If he gains just a little I think that's deserving of a top 10 spot.

Diplan-I don't know how we got him for Gallardo. He avg'd almost 5IP as a 17yr old SP a .5 hit per 9? Like Medeiros he's only 6ft but the potential of him(and with already experiencing results) make him one to watch/root for. This was a Steal for a Gallardo!

Rivera is a defensive specialist at SS who to me is a commodity to have for backup. Expect him to make the Big Leagues and last a long time.

Pierre. CF with true pop(unlike Taylor) that stands to go big up the boards here with a successful season. Like Monte Harrison, I think his prospect stock can jump a ton.

Other guys are pitchers Lopez/Wang/Williams boys/Wagner. Depth guys for SP it's nice to have. I like Lopez's 6'4" and continual growth. Feel like he's on his way to becoming a good one.
