Brewers Prospect Primer: Arcia stands above

Knebel eyes return to the Show; Harrison ready to take full-season test

By Mark Emery / MiLB.com

David Denson the "Breakout" candidate...

I love the video of Arcia - seeing how deep he plays. A guy who can play that deep (and that well) is going to save so many hits.

Via @BrewersPD, formal minor league rosters will not be announced by the affiliates until next week. Have to believe it'll be Monday, all the media relations staffs will be busy typing on their Easter Sunday's it seems. Seem to remember a note somewhere indicating that the planes leave for the various destinations this weekend with the players.

If you look at the right sidebar on the KKTV site, you'll see a video link for "Sky Sox Spring Training Report: Meet 'Pockets'" from Sam Farnsworth filmed during his Maryvale visit two weeks ago.

"Pockets" is a unique nickname for catcher Adam Weisenburger (MiLB.com page), the 26-year-old who has posted very solid lines as a catcher along his four-year pro journey and is a bit of a forum favorite.

AUDIO 4/3: Podcast: Ep. 2 (Chris Harris, Luis Aviles)

From the Miller Park Prospects Site:

In this month’s episode we discuss the recent trade of Hunter Morris, Brad’s trip to Arizona for spring training and some of the prospects he watched, and we’re joined by Biloxi Shuckers play-by-play man Chris Harris (9:10) and Milwaukee Brewers shortstop prospect Luis Aviles (26:10) as we look forward to the upcoming minor league baseball season.

Brad of MPP also posted one of his excellent player profiles / interviews, this one with just-turned 20-year-old Luis Aviles.

Initially posted on February 7th, new article link follows:

Via Matt Eddy of Baseball America --

Signed: C Beau Wallace (released by Pirates, June 2) -- 22 years old, RH bat

A Pirates 12th-round pick in 2013, Beau Wallace made it to short-season Jamestown that year as a light-hitting, error-prone third baseman. Pittsburgh released him out of extended spring training in 2014, and the Brewers are now apparently giving the Hinds (Miss.) CC product a look at catcher.

VIDEO INTERVIEW upon 2013 signing

The Brewers did something similar with a catcher conversion project in Connor Narron, son of Jerry, last season.

Often the stories behind signings are quite interesting - linked here is a detailed feature on Wallace from his hometown Vicksburg (MS) Post, includes the following text but is worth your full read.

Wallace returned to Vicksburg and went to work at the Ergon refinery. It was a good job, but not what he wanted. What he wanted, was to play baseball.

Wallace talked about it with his father, who convinced him to give it a go. The next step was a call to Hinds head coach Sam Temple, who helped arrange a one-on-one tryout with Brewers scout Scott Nichols, an old friend.

A few days later, Wallace’s longshot comeback gained some legs when the Brewers signed him to a minor league free agent contract.
