Brewers Scouted Johan Santana Tuesday Night -- UPDATED: No, they didn't

LHP Johan Santana made his first rehab comeback trail appearance in the Venezuelan Winter League Tuesday evening, and retired all six men he faced:

Aragua Top of the 1st

Yangervis Solarte grounds out sharply, pitcher Johan Santana to second baseman Henry Alejandro Rodriguez to first baseman Ramon Hernandez.

Eduardo Escobar grounds out, shortstop Ronny Cedeno to first baseman Ramon Hernandez.

Ramon Flores flies out to center fielder Endy Chavez.

Aragua Top of the 2nd

Josmil Pinto flies out to left fielder Ezequiel Carrera.

Avisail Garcia flies out to right fielder Eduard Pinto.

Jose Martinez grounds out, third baseman Luis Nunez to first baseman Ramon Hernandez.

As per this tweet, the Brewers were one of seven clubs (Brewers, Blue Jays, Rangers, Rays, Mariners, Yankees) to scout him. That doesn't mean there were not other teams as well, it's just that the Brewers were confirmed to be on hand, which is nice to see in terms of due diligence.

He spent most of his first 2 or 3 years pitching (very well) out of the bullpen with a few stints in the rotation each year. If he's got his game back, or at least enough of it, I'd take the flyer on him. It's all about upgrading the talent level on hand!

It's hard not to get giddy about a guy like Johan but the reality is, there is such a small chance that he'd really come in and be worth it. I guess if you're a gambling man, throw some money at him and hope it sticks but otherwise it just is what it is.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

It seems like there could be a match here with Johan. The Brewers definitely want some depth in the rotation, dont want Jungmann to be your first option if one of the starters goes down at this point. Johan, if scouting and medicals all check out on him, could fall into that 2013 Gorzelanny role where he had 10 starts and 33 relief appearances.
