What's bugging you? (2015)

jerichoholicninja
It's pretty high down here. A lot of uninsured motorists, a lot of vehicle break ins, especially in the downtown area. Cardinals games/events downtown are basically Black Friday for car thieves. Around here, they aren't looking for things left out on seats. They are breaking in because so many people do CCW here, and cannot take their guns into events. So they break into glove boxes and trunks to steal the guns.

The use of the word legit. The youth of today use it as a substitute for legitimate or legitimately, seemingly without regard to context.

Using this word in a way that it was not intended (by my grammatical system at least) guarantees that I will stop listening.

Yes, I realize I'm now the old guy who doesn't understand slang, but I'm surprisingly fine with this.

Legit doesn't bother me as an informal substitute for legitimate, but I can't see it working as a substitute for legitimately.

As writing gets more formal, legit shouldn't be used, though. I think it's fine on a message board but not in a business letter.

A child abduction report just came on the tube. It mispronounced "Burleigh" and referred to North Avenue as "North Street." This causes people to have to think about unnecessary stuff when they should be listening.

I don't know if it's just me getting older or what, but it seems to me, people's driving is just getting worse and worse.

Going to and coming back from work, a 25 minute drive each way, I see:

- 10+ MPH over the speed limit, probably closer to 15+ over.

- ignoring the "right turn only" lane

- passing in that far right lane only to go over 1, 2, 3 lanes to take a left turn.

- ignoring the school zone speed limit when you can clearly see plenty of children in the area actually going to school

- excessive tailgating. I do drive 5 over the speed limit in the middle or right lane. If that's not fast enough for you, then get over in the left lane. That's what it's for.

I see these things definitely every week, and most of the time every day. And that's just on city streets. I thankfully don't have to get on the freeway at all. I honestly don't think the police bother to even look for this stuff anymore.

On the freeway I see about the same thing.

Who knows what a solid white line on the freeway means? I'm going to guess maybe 10% of drivers know the answer.

How about merging on the freeway? You see a car coming up the ramp, you are already on the freeway. What do you do? I have actually been in a car with someone who said, "why should I slow down, I'm already on the freeway. They should be the one to slow down and get behind me."

That's about enough of my rant for the day. Feel better now. Thanks for reading.

10-15 over the limit is kind of the norm from what I can tell. Widely accepted, at least in the 45mph+ zones.

For merging, I think the person merging has the responsibility to dlow down and fit in with the traffic. Of course I expect the person on the freeway to move over if they can. I always move over if I can.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

The driver who drove the wrong way on a one-way street, whose coping response to our attempts to keep her from slamming into us was to give us the finger. Because, obviously, it was our bad to drive the way the traffic signs indicated?

More seriously, we were all super lucky it wasn't a major thoroughfare.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Nationwide Insurance. Go to website, get "free quote" for auto insurance. Says you can save additional by bundling renters insurance. But they won't tell you how much or give you the ability to find out - you have to purchase the auto insurance first.

Call Nationwide to find out. No, they can't access your on-line quote, you have to go through the hassle of giving them the information again. Then they give you a quote that is double what the on-line quote was. What the hell?!? They said my insurance is lapsed. Like hell it is, it's paid through January 6th, and I have the policy number in front of me. Well, AAA apparently does not report to the "bureau" (?) so they can't validate my insurance. I have to send them proof, otherwise if I want to buy over the phone I have to pay double what the website said (which, on an annual basis, is almost 20% of the value of my vehicle).

Doesn't exactly sound like Nationwide is on my side.

(This is the type of BS that residents of St. Louis have to deal with. So are the Cardinals a reward for having to put up with the BS of living here, or is this the penance that St. Louis gets for having a baseball organization, team, and fans that are a bunch of classy jerks?)

No, that's just the type of BS that comes with insurance. All forms of insurance. It makes me shake my head at all the thousands of dollars I've spent on car insurance in my lifetime and have never once used it. Yes, I understand the "just in case" and all that jazz but unless I severely injure or kill someone with my car it's all wasted money I could have used for other things.

I'm looking at doing some work in one of my bathrooms. The initial research causes me to watch a lot of YouTube videos. It blows me away that people don't bother to clean their toilets before filming. When there's construction dirt, that's expected. But viewers don't need to see the results of actually using the toilet.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Christmas Eve is an hour and a half way, I think my sister is coming to my house, but she hasn't been in touch with me so I don't know for certain. Typical holiday again...(and yes, I have reached out to her a few times over the past couple of weeks asking her what her plan was, if she's coming, when she's coming, etc... The only response I got was "I don't know yet.")
