Dayan Viciedo

superfly

Could Viciedo be a shot in the dark buy low player? Seems he's a prime trade candidate now that the Sox signed LaRoche and Melky. He HAS played a little bit of 1st here and there, and there was speculation in the past that Viciedo would end up at 1st. He'd be a marginal defender, but his bat matches the Brewer philosophy perfectly (sigh)...elite power, no discipline, high K's.

Not ideal perhaps, but he has versatility as OF, 1B, and he came up as a 3B. Marginal defender to poor at all of them though, but maybe he's a late bloomer.

His career line against LHP is .291/.331/.508/.837 (.359 wOBA), so if he can play 1B he would be an ideal bench piece to platoon with Lind while still having the flexibility to play the corner OF. Plus he is only 25. However, unless Chicago basically gives him away, I'm sure the asking price will be more than he's worth to Milwaukee.

He's not going to cost all that much. Chicago needs to dump his salary (he's in first year of arby) and they have no place to play him. White Sox are thin at catcher. Maybe a Zarraga or Weisneberger would get him or some other B-C level prospect.

I think it would be a good move myself. He played a lot of 1B in 2010 and he might be better suited there than the OF where he's pretty bad. He originally was signed as a 3B. He's got plus power and a change of scenery might just do him a lot of good.

BTW, Viciedo is 6 for 22 with 2 HR and 4 RBI against Jon Lester. Just sayin.
