Melky Cabrera signs a 3-year deal with the White Sox with varying reports on the money which is somewhere between $42-$43.5 million.

CHICAGO -- The 2014-15 offseason has become the holiday gift that keeps on giving for the White Sox fan base.

Melky Cabrera became the latest present, as the switch-hitting outfielder agreed with the White Sox on a three-year contract worth between $42 million and $43.5 million, a Major League source told MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez early Sunday morning. The club has not confirmed the agreement.

The deal, which is pending a physical, was first reported by Bruce Levine of The Score 670 AM, the White Sox flagship station.

Cabrera, 30, not only provides the White Sox an upgrade offensively and defensively in left field, but he also fits perfectly into the two spot in the White Sox lineup behind Adam Eaton. He hit .301 with a .351 on-base percentage and a .458 slugging percentage for the Blue Jays in 2014, to go along with 16 homers and 73 RBIs.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Seems like a reasonable deal for them. The White Sox seem to suddenly be in "go for it" mode...or maybe they're just trying to stay relevant in Chicago.

The Sox philosophy is always to "go for it". They got stuck with some bad contracts (Dunn) the last couple years and injuries as well and that kind of put them in a bind but they were never going to go the same route as the Cubs. It's not so much staying relevant. The Sox have a very loyal fan base, but if the team doesn't play well, they don't show up so they rebuild on the fly. Reinsdorf is 78 now too and wants another winner. So there's a bit of Ilitch strategy going on here too of win whatever the cost because you can't take it with you.

All their moves have been solid. They overpaid for Duke in my opinion and that may come back to haunt them a bit, but in general in that division, they are now strong contenders.

I think the Sox see the Central as being very much up for grabs (I agree) in the next season or two or three, & are trying to strike while the iron's hot
