If there was ever a year to stash a player through Rule 5 Draft...

pacopete4

Delino Deshields. Plays OF and 2B. We have Parra who is our 4th OF and our manager has already stated that he wants Scooter to play against lefties. This kids athletic ability and base stealing could help us this year just by being a bench guy. Who knows, maybe he hits his stride completely and is the next "Gomez" type guy we have. I'd be on board with this selection since he will be turning only 23 years old. A great way to add a top prospect and give the guy a change of scenery and maybe hit on something without giving up any players.

Some teams will be turned off by his well-documented problems with not always showing his best effort—he's been pulled from multiple games over the years for not running out balls. But other teams may be intrigued by some of the best tools in the Rule 5 draft. The minors' only 10-100 man ever (12 home runs, 101 steals in 2012), DeShields plays an adequate center field, can also play second base, has more pop than most speedsters and has shown excellent on-base skills.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

That makes too much sense...why would we do that?

Wang lost prospect eligibility last season, but he'd be pretty highly regarded is my guess. Getting a LH mid rotation starter for free seems like a pretty deft move.

DeShields already had a fair amount of discussion. For one he didn't want to play 2B. Another is evaluators questioned whether he could play an adequate CF. He didn't hit well last season. He has a reputation for a bad attitude. Maybe he's great, but he seems like a BU corner OF who you don't want to use as a defensive replacement or a pinch hitter.

Luhnow said he didn't think anyone would take him.

He is gone, picked third.

It's already taking place? Weird. I thought it was later in the day. Where are you finding results?

Saw the results on MLB trade rumors too.

Well as far as it looks, not sure other than him that there is a guy to take a chance on anyways.
