Cards interested in Reynolds and Weeks?

TURBO

UUUGGGHHH!

I don't give a rat's rear end about Reynolds, but I'd hate to see Rickie end up in St. Louis.

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Cardinals are interested in Mark Reynolds and Rickie Weeks.

He also lists John Mayberry, Kyle Blanks, Gaby Sanchez and Corey Hart as potential targets, though he hasn't been able to confirm interest in them as he has with Weeks and Reynolds. The Cards are looking for some right-handed thump off the bench, as well as a potential platoon partner for Matt Adams at first base. Reynolds would seem to be a better fit than Weeks in that regard, as Weeks has never played first base and likely should be able to find more playing time elsewhere.

Not to mention, he wasn't interested in changing positions with us, why would anyone think he'd be doing it for someone else?

I think Rickie will get a contract with someone, but I highly doubt it will be to play anything other than 2B.

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that the Cardinals are showing some interest in Rickie Weeks.

They like him as a right-handed bat off the bench and potentially as an alternative at first base. The market for Weeks has been pretty quiet so far, but he could have more appeal if he expresses a willingness to play the outfield. The 32-year-old batted .274/.357/.452 with eight home runs over 286 plate appearances in a part-time role with the Brewers this past season.

Count me as really hoping that Rickie doesn't sign with StL. After all of these years with him on our team and the memory of him playing on two Brewers teams that made the postseason, I would be really down to see him end up there of all places in MLB.

Count me as hoping that Rickie does sign with STL - he's a streaky hitter who needs regular playing time to find hot streaks at the plate, and his defense is bad enough to prevent him from deserving regular playing time in the national league.

I think for Rickie's sake, he needs to find a home with an AL team that needs a DH who can get on base and wouldn't be counted on as a middle of the order run producer.
