White Sox have agreed to a 4-year for $46 million with closer David Robertson.

The move continues the ChiSox's aggressive off season. 1b Adam LaRoche has already signed, and the Sox reportedly have a deal in place for Samardzija with Oakland.

I would assume this means they are not looking at Krod anymore?
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

78 year old Jerry Reinsdorf is turning into another Mike Ilitch. He's starting to sense his mortality and wants to win at all costs. He also knows Sox fans stay away if team isn't competitive. Sox drew a paltry 1.65 million fans last year in a major market. That's pathetic. They were fast becoming irrelevant. These moves should boost interest and attendance and give them a decent shot.

When is the last time a deal signed by a closer worked out?

What was Mo Rivera's last extension? ...

So closers(and by extension relievers) should only be signed for more than 2 years if they are once in a lifetime talent.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I don't think they'll suck, but what about the following season or after that? Somejarsof will likely be gone, LaRoche will be a year older, they'll have a mondo expensive bullpen and doom may strike and Don Cooper retires. I guess then they could go all A's on it and flip Abreu and some of their pitchers.

How good were the prospects they gave up?

Only 20 more years and we can expect the same from Mark Attanasio. Can't wait to see the 2035 Milwaukee Brewers!!!!

Is this really surprising? 4/46mil for what appears to be an elite Closer?

I believe Rafael Soriano turned in an impressive Save season(year Rivera injured himself) in to a QO 3/33 contract. So 11mil per. This is 4 years at 11.5per. Robertson posted better numbers and is younger. I highly doubt this is going to turn in to a bad deal for the Sox.

It costs Chisox a 2nd rd pick. Gotta figure 2015 with the moves already made they weren't going to finish bottom 10 in Baseball. Theyve secured the Closer spot now for 4 years while they climb up the ladder to Division title/Playoff Appearances. They are close to becoming Pitcher dominant in Sale/Quintana and Rodon already. Samardzija will either be extended or net a QO certainly. And they have what may be the Albert Pujols of this decade batter in Jose Abreu. It doesn't take much surrounding one like that to produce runs for a Pitcher heavy team.

There aren't many FA signings that I'd agree with the money and years, but this is one of them. Robertson is a strong security blanket for Closer. Especially moving to the AL Central.
