Brandon Moss to Cleveland for minor leaguer

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/12/athletics-indians-nearing-brandon-moss-trade.html

Moss for minor league 2b Joe Wendle. The Brewers have Lind so Moss would be redundant but would Moss have made more sense, especially for such a low return. Moss is a year younger, has 3 years of team control left, and is not the total liability in the field that Lind is. What would be the Brewers equivalent of Wendle?

Seems like a really light return. He would have been a nice fit in Milwaukee. Oakland has supressed his numbers (.905 OPS on the road the last three years vs .776 in Oakland).

Maybe the hip injury is more serious than people realize.

But I'm still shaking my head wondering why make the deal for only Joe Wendle, who doesn't look like a big deal. MLB has him ranked 14th on Oakland's top 20. Sort of the no man's land of prospects. Most teams have a bunch of guys like this. Oakland must think he's ready for a breakout.

Odd move.

Lind is not a liability at 1B. Moss actually has much much worse career defensive metrics at 1B.

The advantage of Moss is that he's not totally useless against LHP. But he's also not nearly as good against RHP as Lind has been at his best.

He's also coming off a hip injury which makes his future really scary.

Moss had a torn labrum in the right hip.

Injury expert Will Carroll told Fangraphs that most players return fine from the injury. Chase Utley and Alex Gordon both had the same surgery following the 2008 and 2009 seasons, respectively. One person who didn't return from the injury was Carlos Delgado, but he was 37 at the time.

Certainly can't dismiss the injury, but it might not be that big of a deal.

Moss' left handed power bat should play well in Cleveland. Just getting out of Oakland should be a big plus.

I am quite surprised by the lack of return for Moss.

As to who is Milw's equivalent to Wendle? I'd probably venture either Michael Reed or Taylor Williams based on age/prospect ranks and being two guys who've shown positive results and still possess growth upside. Helps also they are top 3 rounds picks as Wendle was a 6th rd selection.

No they don't play 2b but Milw is lacking in 2b prospects not named Arcia.

Just really surprised a team like Miami or Pitts who have 1b needs didn't offer more than Wendle. Even Milw but then again they jumped the gun and acquired Lind which in roster construction makes a Moss acquisition a poor idea w/o the intent on shipping Lind out.
