Yasmany Tomas to Dbacks (6/$68.5)

Can anyone explain what TLR is doing? They should be in rebuild mode. Are they hoping he becomes a stud so they can trade him?

They lost 98 games this year. They didn't have Goldschmidt for most of the season, but that roster top to bottom is one of the ugliest in MLB. Doesn't make sense to spend big money on a FA.

Maybe they're not done re-tooling their team. Can still make some big splashes.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

He's only 24, so while being technically a free agent he is basically a really expensive draft pick.

If Tomas is an elite bat like Abreu (big if, obviously) then I could see them competing with a 1-2 of Goldschmidt/Tomas. And then you have Trumbo, who... hits HR I guess...

Second-worst team ERA in the NL last season though. Hellickson not much of an upgrade.

Great move by them to add a supposed talent like Tomas. You're forgetting they lost Patrick Corbin And Archie Bradley to TJ I believe before the season even began. Mr never misses a start Bronson Arroyo got injured. Corbin and Bradley will be back helping boost that rotation. AJ Pollock missed a lot of games. Goldschmidt missed games. The team had been using Montero behind him. If Tomas truly has big Power, I'm thinking he slides behind Goldschmidt for some true protection. You're talking about adding that power bat behind someone who get OB at a .400 clip who didn't even have good protection to begin with. It makes Goldy better potentially.

They have young infielders in Jake Lamb/Chris Owings who are better offensively than what they did in their time up in 2014.

Honestly you look up and down the Dbacks lineup card and Tomas fits perfectly in Right Field. Something the team didn't have coming up in the Minors. C: Montero 1b:Goldy 2b:Hill(he of 800+OPS the 3 seasons prior to last season's .654) SS: Owings 3b: Lamb LF:Trumbo CF: Pollock RF: Tomas

That's very solid imo potentially outright insane if Montero/Hill/Trumbo play up to their former abilities. Arz has those arms coming back+2 others to supplement potentially after Super 2 goes by.

Their pitching isn't strong but it has strength coming...better upside than the Brewers have on their Roster/coming. 2015 I wouldn't expect a 81+ win team. But in 2016 they may be a 86+win team threat with talent producing.
