On Deck Rummage Sale - wow, the jerseys!

hawing

I'm posting this here because it's merchandise-related. I do not have jerseys to sell or trade.

So, did any of you who attended the on deck event check out the jerseys for sale in the loge level rummage sale? It was a combination "trip down memory lane (21st century edition)" and, for some names, possibly an attempt at exorcism. Please buy these, so we can be rid of the presence of these ex-players once and for all. Very entertaining overall. They charged $100 for a signed jersey and $75 for unsigned.

Here's a sample of the names I specifically remember seeing either on the racks or in the hands of customers. You may laugh, you may cry:

Gary Bennett (Before he was a World Series champion!

Jeff Bennett

Ricky Bottalico

Mike Buddie

Mike Crudale

Kane Davis

Ben Diggins

Leo Estrella

Either Ben or Matt Ford (I don't remember the number on the jersey)

Wayne Franklin

Gus Gandarillas (whose first name I could not recall until I checked it in the media guide's all-time roster)

Gary "G-Love" Glover

Jeffrey Hammonds (white or navy, your choice!)

Lenny Harris

Ben Hendrickson

Adrian Hernandez

Matt Kinney

Dan Kolb

Justin Lehr

Curtis Leskanic

Pedro Liriano

Luis Lopez

Robert Machado (I assume not Julio, as the jersey was the current style, but I laughed at the thought)

Chris Magruder

Dave Mlicki

Chad Moeller

Julio Mosquera

Nick Neugebauer

Takahito Nomura

Dave Pember

Tommy and/or Travis Phelps (there were multiple Phelps jerseys; I'm pretty sure one was 41, which would be Tommy, and there may well have been a 50, which would be Travis)

Chris Saenz

Alex Sanchez

Also some coaches/staff: Rich Dauer, Rich Donnelly, Gary Matthews (I think), Butch Wynegar. The only jerseys I remember seeing for current personnel were Mike Maddux and Marcus Hanel.

There were yet other names I didn't recognize which weren't in the all-time roster. I might yet check some minor league lists in media guides to see if that triggers my memory further.

There were also boxes of signed baseballs. Lots of Overbays (Wasn't an Overbay-signed baseball a promotion for season ticket sales or something?), but also Junior Spivey, Wes Helms, Victor Santos, JDLR, and even a box of Russell Branyans. The Carlos Lee baseballs sold out in the first hour. The guy staffing the baseball table was noticeably impressed when I identified the JDLR autographs.

I do enjoy these rummage sales. Incidentally, I didn't get a jersey, though there were some I thought would be excellent bf.net prizes (or booby prizes) - just not for $75 and up.

Edited to add a few more names:

Matt Childers

Trent Durrington (how could I forget the only major leaguer ever named Trent?)

Dave Krynzel

Todd Ritchie

Javier Valentin

Based on the media guides I checked, it looks like this jersey sale was a purge of the spring 2003 40-man roster.

You both must have got there before we did. We arrived at the park about noon and had a short wait to get into the rummage sale area. By then most of the bats were gone. However, I wasn't looking for a bat anyway.

That jersey selection was a blast, though.

yeah, there was a ton of jerseys and bats..people were buying 2 bats, 2 jerseys, and bases..I guess the bats were only going for $25..The jerseys were $75 unsigned and $100 signed..both awesome prices..would have gladly paid for a Podsednik game used bat and jersey..almost bought a durrington and helms bat, just for fun

Yeah,

G-Love won me over that last home game of '05 as well. (Technically, that was win number 80 on the year. The 81st win was on the road, won by the bullpen - I think Julio Santana? - with the no-decision to Doug Davis.)

But I already have a Sharpie jersey, which is enough for me.

Some of the earlier jerseys I saw were Mark Loretta one signed and one not, two Bill Castro's and a Rod Carew with the iron workers patch on the sleeve. Also in the bats there were 2 Carlos Lee's, I saw the guy grab both of them. I think he also had the Carew jersey. Any idea what that would be worth. I think alot more than $75 or $100. I wish I would have gotten there a bit sooner.

There were also some really good deals from the sports memorbilla vendors. I got a signed Paul Moliter 8x10 for $25, and the only reason it was marked down was because he was in a Twins uniform. After that, I refused to look at any more items, and I spent the rest the time kicking myself for only bringing $30.

  • 3 weeks later...

My brother has a player-worn jersey of Bill Hall's, I say player worn because it doesn't have the arm patches, it is blue so I am thinking batting practice. But I am not sure. The tag on the inside is 05 Hall 46 ###. What does the 3 digit number after the size mean?

Pretty sure it is a player-worn because the name on the back is a panel and the jersey was sent by the Brewers to him after my aunt signed him up to be recognized on the scoreboard at the Good Friday Cubs game.

Since he will probably be giving it to me (trade of course) I was just trying figure out what it was exactly.

Just to share a story, when the Brewers auctioned off the jerseys they wore on the last day of 2005 my dad won (bought) the Lyle Overbay jersey. Pretty sweet, I think he got it for less than normal because everyone knew it was Overbay's last day as a Brewer.
