My initial thought is that this is the best new Sabermetric idea in the last couple of years.

It is an interesting article, but it's hard to know what to make of it. It gives quantification to what we think we see in terms of plate discipline, but what to do with it. If the detailed data could be had for minor league players, then it would be potentially useful for scouting trade targets, but I'm guessing MiLB doesn't have the ballpark tools to get all the data.

 

It does confirm that Braun was pretty terrible in terms of plate discipline last year. Really hope that procedure worked well enough.
